Crazy amounts of Akai Katana Shin, horrible timing too since I have tons to accomplish in the next week and a half, yikes. I'm really into this game, doubt I'll be playing a whole lot else throughout most of the summer.

And we're back to Progear. I swear that when we're asked to play Gunbird for STGT, I'll submit scores for Progear instead.

Taking a short break from AKS and totally hooked on Kyukyoku Tiger 2 Plus. What a great game, last stage is so brutal though.

So, I finally got my hands on Psyvariar: Medium Unit Complete...

And I'm sorry to say that it is one of the ugliest games I've ever seen. Even doujin shooters are, on average, better looking than PMU. As a result, I am absolutely unable to play it, even though the scoring system looks cool (and let's face it: it's very similar, if not identical to that of its sequel, so I might as well invest my time into the one that doesn't look like shit). And the intro looked so cool with techno music and everything. I'm very disappointed.

Ugly 3D has character.
Revision is much better than the sequel.

I know exactly what you're talking about. There are a few games that have crude 3D animation (Azel- Panzer Dragoon Saga, CarnEvil, South Park 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time), but have a distinct charm about them nonetheless. However, I just don't feel the same way about Medium Unit nor Revision -- though the latter looks slightly better than the former. I also dislike the ship design, and the music is inferior to Psyvariar 2's.
Revision is much better than the sequel.
Hmm...how so?

I'd guess infinite bullet buzzing is kind of cool.

As for games I'm playing, I just hammered out several hours of save-state practice in Gunbird 2 last night. Switched to Tavia, whose bomb makes the game much easier. Barely managed to get an 11 chain, but that's a pretty good accomplishment for me.

Whaaa?... :? Maybe I'm just not playing well enough, but from what I've seen, shield chains (not necessarily "infinite buzzing") in Medium Unit are less frequent than in Psyvariar 2. I mean, they're still possible. But the "blue" polar of the nutrino spectrum makes it possible to shield chain and level up fast and for rong rong tyme. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about this. Anyway, that's another mechanic I prefer over the first game. If such a spectrum does exist in Revision or whatever, then the stats are hidden from the player. One thing I have noticed is that, during the boss battles, it takes longer to buzz for a level up than it does throughout the stages themselves-- as if the red bar from P2 was present.

One of the main changes in revision is that you can buzz one bullet as long as it's on the screen, rather than just once.

Holy crap, you're right! I didn't notice that. Well, to be fair, that is in the sequel as well.

Raiden Fighters 1 (360), Psyvariar 2 (PS2).

I just set up the stick in a comfortable position - I hadn't tried it with Psyvariar 2 before now and have found that MANUAL ROLLING IS THE BOMB

Lots of R-Type, at the moment. Aiming to 1CC Delta on Bydo difficulty, and I've just nabbed the last few achievements on Dimensions (making it only the third XBLAH game I've bothered to max out :P), thanks to my brother graciously helping me out with the co-op ones. It's almost impossible to find anybody online, and when you do it's unplayably laggy. Boo-urns!

I never really bothered with Infinite Mode, either, so it might be fun to try to get through that on one life.

KETSUI. Got it just a couple of days now and it's addictive as hell! :). My personal hiscore is 41.666.718 and Stage 4 so far. But can't get further than 30 million on the last few credits. Difficult to score good, have to watch some superplay video's.

Heh, I just got this a couple days ago too. Sure as hell can't get to stage 4 on a credit yet. Probably around 20 mil high score so far.

Fucking brilliant game

Yeah that 40 Million Stage 4 score was all luck, so it seems. I haven't gotten to Stage 4 ever since, and never more than 30-35 Million in points :(
But I keep practicing

My asia region xbox 360 and dodonpachi DFK black label arrived yesterday.

I've got loop 1 hibachi sorted now (I'm bad so i'm playing on novice difficulty) and on my last run I was like 2 seconds from doing the first loop without losing a life and getting onto the second loop :(

So close.

Gonna try Kesuipachi later as that came with it.

Trying to figure out a good strategy for R-Type's final boss, now. I can coast to him on one life at this point, but I haven't been able to survive long enough after firing my Force to kill him. Outrunning the swirly guys after they merge together is impossible without a good amount of speed-ups, too...

Been playing lots of Ketsui. Finally managed to make it to stage 3 a few times. I think 19 mil is the highest I've scored. I am really terrible at this game, but having loads of fun with it. Also tried out some X-Mode. I think this is one of the better Arrange modes I've had the chance to play. Its up there with Pink Sweets arrange, but I'd say even better, as I still die on stage 2. Most arrange modes are fun for score, but make it too easy to 1cc.

Also have DFK 1.5 on the way. It just felt wrong that Ketsui was the only game that I gained access to by buying the jp 360, and I have yet to find DOJ BLEX.

Parsec 47 is damn fun. Lots of scrubbing back and forth.
Today I'm playing Crimzon Clover with a close pal, showing her around the first few stages of Normal and Simple. (She's a Touhou convert to a degree.)

Actually, I scratch what I said about P47. That game is amazing. Words don't quite do it justice. Currently shit at it, but working my way up to parsec 70 in a single run on Hard, which should be a good goal.

After playing nothing but Child of Eden since its release (amazing!!!), I finally got the shmup itch and played a few credits of what could very well be my favorite Cave game - the PS2 EXCLUSIVE Espgaluda Arrange Mode. I pity those who can't enjoy this mode, it takes everything that makes Galuda so good and multiplies the difficulty by X3.

My CPS2 A Board and 19XX came in the mail yesterday, so I've been busy playing that. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I was also playing Scramble last night and it's been a while since I've raged so hard at poor design choices.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.
