I don't get why valid criticism is automatically seen as being up in arms. It's a decision they made. It's a decision some of us dislike and disagree with. We're merely expressing our thoughts on the matter and how big an impact is had on our personal decisions.

It's not like anybody is saying storm Aksys or boycott the game or anything and it's certainly not like we expect anything to change.

Still, if this keeps you from making the purchase then you probably don't play Shmups for the right reasons

What if you already own the JP version and are interested in the localization because you want to understand the plot? I know gameplay is key, but some people have other motivations for purchasing the localization.

I already got the jp version so other than the nice faceplate I was sort of looking forward to the translation of the story/ending text. While I despise phonetic text when used to an exaggerated level, I can understand it since its marketed to Americans and we're what the poster above me wrote and a bunch of unimaginative twats apparently. So that's fine doesn't phase me, but to go the Working Designs route and completely change the original script to fit the phonetic transition of all things is just sheer lunacy. Unless Cave held them at gun point I don't know what Aksys was thinking.

Yeah it was Cave's English associate's suggestion. The problem is that none of the dialogue is translated, it's completely changed. They don't say any of that crap in the original.So yeah, Aksys is pretty much confirmed to be fucking retarded.

The thing about suggestions, when dealing with a company whom you are trying to build a level of trust with to make possible further acquisitions in future negotiations go smoother. Suggestions can quickly become somewhat weighted or misinterpreted. Like what we have ended up with, Aksys really dropped the ball here imo. I'm not angry with them as perhaps the uninitiated as earlier stated might enjoy the changes? Just disappointed in how Aksys decided to handle this. Oh well I'll snag the faceplate, sell the game to my friend for $30 and move on. Hope it sells well and that Aksys gets a clue for the next game.

Well for folks that already own the game, the only reasons to buy it were to 1) get a faceplate, 2) see English text vs. the Japanese, or 3) throw some money at a Western publisher that's willing to bring in a shump.

I don't care so much about 1.. and 3 just seems misguided. I'll buy stuff that I'm going to enjoy or that I need and that's about it.

I went ahead and canceled my preorder because the text seems so silly. I won't use the faceplate and I'd prefer to just play what I've already got. I'm not running around with a torch and pitchfork, as I don't really care all that much anyways.

Don't get me wrong, I have 2 copy of the game already (regular and LE) and I was going to buy 2 copy of the US version to support US shmups but damn, I just can't get over it.

According to his location he could be Quebecois so I'd believe he could care more about the language than the game (See Bill 101. This is not meant as a personal shot, just an example of the displayed Quebec attitude towards the preservation of their language)). But that aside, he's not wrong. It's not a french accent, Quebecois or Parisian. Maybe it's Peter Seller's french, but that doesn't really count.

Deathsmiles is a fuckin' shmup, goddamit. For what it's worth, dialogue could be entirely cut so that I could gain some extra seconds stolen by this damn dialogue thing. And accents?!?!? Give me a break.

I'd like to know how complaining about the complaining is even remotely constructive. Clearly some people care about some aspects of the game more than others, and their preferences don't affect those of others in any remote fashion.

Honestly, someone should just lock the thread because this is going nowhere and is continuing to go nowhere. But that's just my opinion.
