Or you can complete get rid of the wallpaper if you play the 360 port of SDOJ in tate on a 4:3 RGB monitor setup. Works wonders for playing it on a low-res arcade monitor setup + proper scanlines and all.

Just turn off widescreen mode and set the controls to horizontal "off" and you're good to go in that department.

Gave this a go. I had more fun with the 360 mode than Arcade/1.5. I feel I have more control in it than having to remember all the cash-in spots. The ShotLaser is like drugs; it makes you die faster but you can't stop using it.

I can't decide if I like this or DOJ more. This has been kicking my ass harder than DOJ did though. That SPEED.
Novice Expart is pretty fun too, survival-wise.

Agree, novice and arrange modes are a total blast for the average shmupper,

I can do my usual mid/end level 4 1 credit on arcade/1,5 just like I do in ketsui and DOJ, but with this one a 1cc novice shot or 360 shot is fun and achievable, and im gonna do this with all three characters then step up the difficulty on each with all characters. Before I consider giving arcade/1.5 a serious crack. And its not a chore, its fun. If gaming is a chore then dont do it!
I havent even looked at the other game modes in the game or the store or anything, just enjoying a good ole shmup hour after work each day.

Trouserplank. if you choose ship b and saya and bomb spam the heck out of bosses you really should be able to 1cc 360 and novice shot modes.

My preferred modes at the moment seem to be 1.5 Shot with Type A and B as well as 1.5 Expert with Type D.

The extra slowdown with shot on Type D makes dodging the expert bosses more feasible and makes it seem like God Mode where the lower difficulty due to slowdown makes things more fun for the not so skilled player, though I know it's bad for the scoring cause not using laser does mean you're not keeping the bar up. Though I need to look into how to do recharges and chain better because under 3 billion entering stage 4 is bad. At the moment, I can only really use a level 2 Hyper on the stage 1 midboss to get level3-4 Hyper on 1.5 Expert Type D in terms of recharges. I know there's a recharge spot possible before stage 2 midboss, but I need the high level Hyper to get past the midboss without being hit, so I don't Hyper before it.

I really need to learn stage 3 and 4 too. Stage 3 just ruins me with that midboss.

You can't. It's a unique feature of this port that it can't be done here, whereas it could one way or another in all their other ports.
Oh no! It's impossible, just like the first loop of Under Defeat! But wait - what's this?

Go to gallery and choose the wallpaper you are using, and it will ask you to turn it off or not.

Just wondering what's the difference between the Auto Pilot cheat and the Full Auto Pilot one?

I only have the Full Auto one, so I can't check them out for differences.

And Full Auto can get you the Hibachi clear achievement, though it did need Auto Hyper, Auto Shield, and player input to grab the bees, laser, and stuff. I also like how the AI will just ram into a boss but can dodge Hibachi's final perfectly.

Sorry if it's old news but I discovered that your team for team score attack is stored in your save file so if you have a spare japan account you can just keep deleting it until you get the team you want. You want D of course, and then you'll get access to all the gamerpics from every reset. Most of them either suck or are too detailed for a small gamerpic but theres 2 decent looking hibachi ones.

He's right that there's no way to completely turn it off, though. Even with no wallpaper selected you're still stuck with the default one, not just a blank screen.

If you just end up with the default paper using the trick posted earlier then I'm completely right. What's the difference between having a custom wallpaper or the default one?.. One's as bad as the other.

It's utterly retarded that the usual option to turn the wallpaper brightness down to zero isn't in this port.

Blame their dumb decision to use mmp/ps as the base for the port..

The plus for the default wallpaper is that it isn't as obviously upside down when you rotate the monitor.

Has anyone attempted to translate the 360 Mode dialogue yet? It wouldn't even require playing though the game, as the artbook contains the full script.

Just got my copy and enjoying it so far though it is pretty difficult.

Why do I not have anything on the sides of the screen in 360 mode? I thought there was an animated border or whatever to go along with the jabbering.

360 Mode only has the animated border when you're playing it at the default screen settings. Change the zoom at all or rotate the screen and the animated border disappears.

You can even just shift the screen and that'll remove it. I just moved the screen down 1 px and it went away

Wait, there is a Type D shot?

Today on:

Version 1.5
Type A - Laser
Autobomb OFF

I managed to no miss/no hyper/no bomb stages 1 and 2 and unleashed a gigantic hyper on the stage 3 midboss. So many points. I then went on to no miss the third stage but got destroyed on stage 4 (all 3 lives gone).

This game is sweet. I'll be playing this for quite some time before a 1-All arrives.

buy the 3,000 coin item in the shop, which was the first thing I saved for. Then press select on the character select screen if patched or right analog stick if you're unpatched.

I stretched the screen out to fill my TV so that'd be it. Thanks!

In all fairness MMP/PS has wallpaper brightness setting. Only stupid thing I noticed with it is having the main menus hard left/hard right and thus not appearing correctly on a 4:3 CRT - Guwange XBLA even did THAT right, let alone every other Cave port.

Are you selecting "Score Attack" from the menu for whichever mode you're playing? I think that only allows one player and default settings, so try regular ol' "Start Game" or whatever the other option is.

Yeah, this. Cave games only allow 2P on non-score attack modes, the score attack modes are all defaults, solo player only, no continues.

Also note that 360 mode obviously doesn't allow for a second player at all, same goes for Akai Katana's Slash and Climax modes.
