But this is sickening, not even a lackluster translation, but a complete alteration. I pray that I am able to select the original Japanese text and voice overs. This move was pretty stupid of Aksys, considering how much they got right in releasing the game w/ all the content and the nice faceplate, ect....
flying loli fighting text: serious fucking business
Totally lazy on Aksys' part however, no matter if it's serious business or not. My Japanese has become very rusty over the years, and I am always grateful when translations are done on point so I can cross reference and learn cultural phrases and such that can't be looked up or specified in a language guide such as a dictionary or grammar book. Changing the dialogue completely though of a intellectual property is f'n blasphemy if you ask me.

This is pretty much the answer I was expecting, considering the way they added in French and "German" into the cut scenes.

Response from Aksys:
The screenshots you refer to reflect our efforts toward suggesting regional accents for the characters of Deathsmiles. Windia and Sakura are from England, Casper is from Germany, Follett is from France, and Rosa is from the United States of America, specifically Southern California. During the localization process, Cave informed us of their origins, and suggested with localize their dialog in a way that reflected that. To that end, we have modified some words ("vhat", "zink", "ees", etc) so that they phonetically resemble accents from the countries the girls come from.

"Vhat", for instance, reflects the frequent German use of the "v" sound where English has a "w". "Zink" and "ees" reflect French-accented pronunciations of "think" and "is" respectively. Writing accents phonetically is, however, more art than science, and we have added a few select foreign words to help suggest each girl's country of origin. In the examples you've sent, the German words "ja" ("yes") and "Mein Gott" ("my God") are used to show Casper's country of origin, and the word "aux armes"("to arms") are used for Follett to suggest her French origin. Although some people may not know the translations of these words, their context and placement generally makes their meaning plain.

In short, they are not Engrish.
And now for the shameless plug. We will be discussing this topic for sure and more on our radio interview on the 22nd.

CAVE asked them to do that? It seems odd that CAVE would want the dialogue changed, especially like THAT. I think that Aksys went for so bad its good and went too far.

It was a suggestion they shouldnt have taken, because its a retarded suggestion.

Are Aksys really that out of touch of reality?

Yeah it was Cave's English associate's suggestion. The problem is that none of the dialogue is translated, it's completely changed. They don't say any of that crap in the original.

So yeah, Aksys is pretty much confirmed to be fucking retarded.

I don't think there's anything wrong with throwing the accents in there as a concept. But it's not like Windia looks like she's from England, because is wearing a big white frilly dress with an owl familiar. They need to go all the way and put her in a bright pink Adidas shellsuit. She should also move at half-speed now, due to her pregnancy.

Well I suppose that's better than translating it properly, then going and fucking it all up. Just translating it would have been cheap/easier/better though.

What ? This is a joke, right ? This is NOT the french accent. I find that lack of research kinda insulting actually and yeah, I care about my first language way more than I do about a US Cave port so it's definitly a no from me.

I seriously doubt any of you, who haven't played the game, are going to care at all once you get it. The text is so brief..I mean, it's really barely there.
Hell, I have the J version, and I just push the A button over and over to get past all the Japanese. It takes about 6 seconds.

Oh well.

According to his location he could be Quebecois so I'd believe he could care more about the language than the game (See Bill 101. This is not meant as a personal shot, just an example of the displayed Quebec attitude towards the preservation of their language)). But that aside, he's not wrong. It's not a french accent, Quebecois or Parisian. Maybe it's Peter Seller's french, but that doesn't really count.

It just doesnt look good is all. Besides some people were curious as to what were being said during the cutscenes, and apparently aksys didnt translate from the japanese version at all.

Yeah it doesnt effect the gameplay, but it does make you go

If this will be able to play on the jp360 I'll be getting this anyways. Its a shmup game afterall.

Last time I check there is no 100% translation from Japanese to English on any game for the most part.

My eyes are not rolling.

YES, it's disappointing and uttely shameful.

Still, if this keeps you from making the purchase then you probably don't play Shmups for the right reasons

WEWY's translation is pretty much identical.
