Is it just me, or are there some simple special effects (scaling blur upon boss explosion, room dimming when lasers fire) in the arcade version that aren't in the DC edition? Check out the super play on super-play.co.uk ... what's up with that?

I've had it happen in other shooters. In fact, in many shooters it's still quite possible to grab power-ups/bombs/gold/etc after a boss has died.

Trigger Heart Exelica is wicked, I love it. :D

As for the DVD case, I love my DC DVD cased games. This, Under Defeat and Cosmic Smash. I never knew there were people so anal that they'd skip a game because of the packaging.

On that page there was a video of (I think) Arrange mode wherein there was a huge amount of gold onscreen, and it looked like the game slowed down to a crawl...was that slowdown added for the video, or does the actual game chug that much when so many objects are around?

It does slow down in parts but I think that's part of the game design. Sometimes there's so many bullets coming your way that the slow down is necessary to survive. Also, some of the enemies' bullets kind of start off fast then slow down and then speed up again!

I have to say I'm loving this game very much. My score is pants though. Fourth level so far on one credit but only 22m :(

How do you do that? I've only come accross this in story mode. Also, what is the difference between Arcade and Arrange save that there's no continues in Arrange (which I never use anyway).

Are you referring to the Area 4 boss fight? Can anyone confirm this? I have the game on the way for the DC (so I haven't tried it yet) and am curious...

That sort of slowdown I wouldn't have even bothered to mention, but in the movie I mentioned the thing is a step or two short of a standstill. Follow the third link in GP's post at the top of this page, the movie is near the bottom of that page.

If you mean "arrange slow" then I've just downloaded it. Looks like a glitch to me but I have to say it hasn't happened to me (yet).

It wasn't the video... it was the game. He took the video to illustrate it. It gets to like 1 frame a second.

Requires a certain number of items be collected by the end of the first boss. I'm not sure what the number is.

Dunno about arrange, didn't play it.

I've nothing to add to this discussion except to say that I really, really, really like this game.

Carry on!

Do you mean stage 2 of the DC version has both effects?

Bah, I don't have the game yet, but I'm going to go check the high scores thread, and if there isn't a thread already, I'LL make one. It won't be too troublesome for me to update it at work a couple times a week or whatever.

So should I order this one? I don't think I'll get Last Hope, but I'm seriously considering picking this one up in the next few months.

I will second that, Professor! I played Trigger for about 2 hours on the day I received it in the mail. I haven't played Last Hope since the day I received it in the mail.

I didn't know if I would like it after reading most of the first arcade impressions from the shmups members over in Japan. But I am really getting into this game now. It is sooooo much better than the Shienryu sequel IMHO.

That's great to hear because I actually didn't mind Shienryu Explosion. I'll put this down as my next game to get, I think.

Yeah, I saw those. Both effects are in the stage 4 boss fight as well. So you're saying that they're missing from the DC version, eh? That's disappointing--they look cool.

You can't even call it slowdown.. it's flat out frame-dropping.

You don't have to. God knows how many HS threads need updating.
Feedback will set you free.

So is it worth to get on DC? I'm still going to buy it anyway, but i'm curious what people who like low-profile naomi shooters think (i'm also interested in the opinions of the cave bitches and high-brow score-system elitists segments) to motivate me to actually order it.

I haven't been motivated to buy it yet......
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

My impression is that I would've enjoyed the scoring system more if this was released 3 years ago. Note how multiple people are playing for score, but no one cares enough to put a thread up (edit: I see Arvandor just made one). I'd place it about par with Psyvariar 2, Radirgy and other third tier scoring games.

Overall it's a fine game, much more substance than Shienryu Explosion, takes a little too much from Cave for my liking (the bullet patterns all seem like Cave hand-me-downs, nothing interesting there). The gimmick is a little more inspired than the average game/sequel being released, but could've used more work. Having to hold down multiple buttons is always annoying, auto-spin is only a partial fix. It's fairly fun to just plow through the stages throwing crap around, too.

Can you explain that? What do you mean "strategic times"?

I'm no where near getting huge scores because I can't seem to trigger the last boss battle.

Also, do you get higher scores if you don't choose the auto rotate?
