I think you're both right.Skykid wrote:What the fuck. The boss introductions are incredible. The boss warning is pure sensory overload thanks to the cabinet itself. The alarm and the rumbling are great. However, when you only compare what is displayed on the screen, there isn't much going on in DBAC's introductions when compared to G-Darius'. The massive screen does help with some bosses like Great Thing that are really really huge and imposing, but aside from that, there isn't as much life in the boss introductions.
In G-Darius, you had small cutscenes/scenarios going on as well as "cinematic" camera angles that make the bosses appear more menacing and imposing. That aspect is mostly lost in DBAC, as aside from maybe Hungry Gluttons who leaps at you, most of the bosses just show up and get into position. None of DBAC's bosses can make me feel as giddy as Queen Fossil wrecking the shit out of your allied forces, or Absolute Defender shielding against a massive laser beam and then retaliating against its attacker, or Eclipse Eye introducing itself by hiding the sun and then having your ship reflected in its eye as if to him you were mere prey about to be eaten. There was just so much creativity and diversity in those G-Darius introductions.
On the other hand, DBAC's bosses have not lost their liveliness while you are fighting them. For instance, I was really impressed the first time by Lightning Claw's movements and attempts at crushing you with its lightning beams. The speakers and the rumble also helped a lot with this feeling.
EDIT : Duh, a new page. Quoting the boxart posted in the previous page for those who may have missed it :
