All 110 episodes are fulled sub!

The project from the subbing group Anime Central took them about four years to sub the whole series, but it's complete.

If you want to know where it is, just PM me.

lol there's a very explicit reference to Touhou games in the first episode of "ef - a tale of memory". A scene shows a girl playing a shmup on a computer that is very clearly a touhou game, the camera is focused on the screen for a few seconds until she dies. What's funny is that she's playing with the mouse -_-;;

No idea if the anime is any good though.

There is a Gradius reference in Lucky Star. Not only that but also Street Fighter, Track and Field, Virtua Fighter etc, etc.

But then, lucky star has references to all kinds of random stuff.

Better, from the Minami-ke Okawari OP:

This has nothing at all to do with the series. IMO it's worth watching (start with minami-ke, okawari is the second half). It's a slice of life comedy, and consistently funny.

Haven't watch anything as of late.

The only real news to me in the Anime world is the new Space Adventure Cobra anime series (from the same director as the early 80s series) and the OVA project (being done by Buichi Terasawa himself).

And I herd Golgo 13 is getting an anime series as well.

Good for old-school fans like myself.

Anyone watching (yes, watching) Blade of the Immortal? Just watched the first episode, and it's... interesting...

They're not animating the really nasty scenes from the manga (like Manji's sister Machi getting sliced into thirds in volume 01), which is expected given the graphic nature of the scenes in question. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with the really nasty stuff later on though (vol 11, LOL), stuff that's a big part of the story. Animation and art isn't too bad. The opening theme is irritating though. :p

I have been watching a lots of anime this year. After subscripting the paid anime channel early this year, but I only got mostly old stuffs (2 to 3 years ago) on air there.

Anyway, it saves a tons of cash for no longer need to buy anime DVDs anymore. And it also better to watch anime at youtube.

Interesting, I love Maruo's works - what's this one about? Also, do you read them in Japanese?

I don't watch much anime nowadays, but there are still a few shows that hold my interest - I'm a big fan of anime that deals with Japanese mythology & superstition, some of my favourites include Mushishi, Ayakashi, Mononoke & xxxHolic. Can anyone suggest some more anime series or translated manga thats in the same vein? I've looked for suggestions along these lines elsewhere on the net, but most anime discussion i've found has only elicited suggestions such as "dood, you should watch Naruto" X_X

naruto is . . . Ok. It just has a lot of filler episodes where they drag out fights over a few episodes or have an entire series where nothing happens. pretty muuch the last 30-40 episodes of naruto nothing happens it does not drive the story its like watching some one play FF and only watching them play side missions. = gay

Quoted for truth. Is it even possible for a main character to be more obnoxious? Absolutely unbearable. :x

I only watched Naruto to the end of their first big mission (against Zabuza), but up to that point I thought it was awesome. I was told a lot of filler came after that, so I guess it was a good thing to stop where I did :)

Anyway, stuff I need to watch/read, respectively:

- Black Lagoon
- Yotsuba

Yotsuba&! is an amazingly lighthearted and relaxing read. :)

Icarus, how do you like BotI anime? I've downloaded the complete manga recently but haven't started reading it yet; am I right in that the anime is good on its own, but doesn't quite do the manga justice (like it happened with Berserk)? Or is it much worse? In any case, is it worth watching if I plan on reading the manga, anyway?

The jury is still out regarding the anime at the moment. It is early days yet (just up to ep2 at the moment) but I have this feeling they're going to cut out, skip over and water down quite a lot of stuff, especially the nasty bits that go on later in the manga. They've already avoided doing one of the very first scenes in its full glory (though it is understandable given the medium and potential audience), and some characters appear to have been introduced a lot earlier in the story.

If you haven't read the manga yet, I'd suggest you read through a good number of volumes before starting the anime - so far, they appear to be considerably different, and many adaptations can be spoileriffic to those who haven't sampled their respective manga beforehand.

I cant bring myself to read manga on a PC. Its pricey but i like having the books. The only one im collecting atm is BECK : Mongolian chop squad. which is by far one of the greatest animes ive ever seen. the Pulp just reinforces that aswell even if im only 6 books deep.

Hmm, seems similar to what the TV adaptation did to Gantz. Well, thanks for the reply, I'll start reading the manga then.

By the way, are you following Berserk? I'm thinking of re-reading it from the start, since my attention span fails to encompass the epic.

Enjoying what's available of Type-Moon's Kara no Kyoukai (Edge of Emptiness).
Yeah yeah, it's Type-Moon. After the minor disappointment of Shingetsutan Tsukihime (which I still really like) and the cop-out at the end of Fate Stay/Night (dear god that ending sucked), it's nice to see a Type-Moon anime really well done.

It's fantastic. One of my very favorites.

Anyway, finally a topic I can relate to. I don't think any of you guys will share my tastes at all though. Anime is my other top passion, shmups aside.

My favorites, that I would recommend to anyone who's into such things:
Chobits (romance/comedy)
Tsukuyomi -Moon Phase- (romance/comedy/vampire)
ef - A Tale of Memories (romance/psychological)
Ichigo Mashimaro (Strawberry Marshmallow) (slice of life/loli)
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (it's hard to describe in a genre)
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (satire/comedy)
Kodomo no Jikan (loli/romance/comedy)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (Mecha/action)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (suspense/horror)
Nodame Cantabile (music/romance)
Hidamari Sketch (comedy/school/art)
School Days (school/romance with a violent ending)
Toradora! (school/tsundere romance) *still airing*
Baccano! (action/horror)
Air (tragicomedic romance)

Oh well, it's worth a try. Come to think of it, I'll pretty much recommend anything that is by CLAMP, SHAFT, Kyoto Animation, or GAINAX. However, most of my recommendations are either romantic comedies or loli anime.

Also supporting the Yotsubato! call. I love it to the point that in a haze of pathetic nerdiness, I have officially named my computer 'Yotsuba'.

Agree with these ones, they're great - Air, Ichigo and Hidamari are particularly favourites of mine. The others I either mildly dislike for various reasons, or haven't seen yet (ef, Nodame Cantabile, Toradora and Baccano fall into the latter category).
While I don't mind tsundere characters in general, I'm a little wary of wholly tsundere anime, especially since there was a one called Tsuyokiss that I made the mistake of watching the first episode of, a long time ago, and now I'm horribly mentally scarred for life.

Since you like comedies, have you seen Potemayo yet? I love that one, it has me in fits of laughter constantly.
