Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead
I'm really surprised anyone believes anything in this thread except for the fact he's dead. I'm glad we all agree on that.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

the big question is where Bin Ladin's face will appear on the Elvis B-52 on the moon Prince Diana and Michael Jackson, James Dean motorcycle stunt with Tupac and Biggie commemoration breakfast plate?

??? The security of Pakistan's nukes have been a concern for years now. Obviously it's not unfounded if the first move would be to attempt to secure the sites but more importantly, have you actually read the article they're discussing? Or listen to him in the clip you provided? "It's a huge issue for us... The fact of the matter is that we really don't know what we need to know... It's great that we get more access but that doesn't mean in any way that we can feel secure about what's going on there... We dream and talk about taking them out but that's not gonna be possible..." He goes on to say they designed their tunnel system not only for security but to keep America from knowing where their nukes are. Read the article and tell me that the security of their nukes is not a fear for the United States.austere wrote: Yet again, unfounded and useless. I already told you your assumption that Iran doesn't have nuclear warheads, for this and other reasons, is unfounded. The USA's very first move would be to secure the sites, as per the plan Seymour Hersh mentioned

Also, I never presented an assumption that Iran doesn't have nukes, just that we were unsure of the status of their weapons, which you cop to in your response.
Or you can look at the totality of the evidence and information presented so far and come down on one side or the other based on what's most likely to be true but who does that any more?austere wrote: Believe it or not there's three _logical_ positions you can take on this story:

That would be a non-classic logic approach, i.e. intuitionistic or sub-structural logics. Furthermore, whether you really want to reason with three value is a matter of which variant of intuitionism/relevance/linear logic you pick up (There, I said it).Believe it or not there's three _logical_ positions you can take on this story:
- True
- False
- Unverified (Undefined? Note-Randorama)
I think that, given the whole muddy picture, assigning a percentage of likelyhood to either a true or false side is far from a safe bet. My guts feelings say that "undefined" is the most likely chance.Acid King wrote: Or you can look at the totality of the evidence and information presented so far and come down on one side or the other based on what's most likely to be true but who does that any more?

You're right that it's muddy and I wouldn't necessarily assign a percentage but, for example, in the "bin Laden died 10 years ago" vs. "bin Laden was assassinated" department, existing evidence favors one over the other.Randorama wrote:

Regardless of the beliefs of the survey participants, the question was stupid. What difference does it make where he is at? He's gone from this world anyway.
Seriously, what's the point of wasting air, time and electricity in something as inane as that kind of surveys?

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead
Where's the agnostic option.
Only in the USA would this poll make it to national television. I admit I chuckled a bit though, imagining Osama in the classical vision of hell while the TV host was talking.
I hope that last bit doesn't become a meme by the way.
If so, then war with Pakistan is not out of the question. I already gave some motivation for this, but I'll add that if the USA can take Pakistan, I can see them weakening the BRICS country's pact by forcing India to realign more strongly to them, while fermenting problems along China's border. China would lose a key ally as well, further surrounding in the region. Russia is already surrounded and the ABMs are being placed, one in Romania. Not that those pieces of crap would help against Russia's advanced ICBMs which have no counter-measures (and none foreseeable).
Anyway, that's why I think Pakistan might come out as a target. Alternatively, this could be used to frame a pull out from Afghanistan, which is bullish for the US economy and bearish for commodities. I highly doubt it, but one can dream.

Someone's been doing their homework!!! Of course, the three values/categories were application specific. Have you studied pure mathematics by any chance? I'm experiencing deja vu, I swear I've asked you this before...Randorama wrote: That would be a non-classic logic approach, i.e. intuitionistic or sub-structural logics. Yeah that's what we have at the moment, but it could switch over to "likely killed this year", if concrete evidence is presented (rather than more home videos from al qaeda). No further evidence can be presented for the opposite case so I can see why Acid King might think it is more likely, I just disagree that it is easy to justify that opinion until we have all the information they're willing to release. That's all from me on this topic, I think we've exhausted what we can talk about.Randorama wrote: I think that, given the whole muddy picture, assigning a percentage of likelyhood to either a true or false side is far from a safe bet. I have actually only skimmed it, but I had watched Hersh's report a while ago. My point was the risk of weapons transfer was not so great (not likelyhood, risk, which means potential damage caused by it compounded by that likelyhood) as to prevent a war from occurring. Like I said, whoever would end up with the warheads is faced with the same dilemma as Pakistan faces during a war. The existence of a plan means this might be a risk the US is willing to take in order to conduct a war, do you agree with me on that point?Acid King wrote:Read the article and tell me that the security of their nukes is not a fear for the United States.

Al Qaeda are in on the gag and they've known he's been dead for years but now they can reignite thier campaign now the "news" has "broken"Al Qaeda confirms Bin Laden's death, calls for retaliation.
BUT WHERE'S THE PROOF?!??!????
Also looks like the political right in the US have accepted the death as well and they've dropped the call for the photo and have now moved onto questioning whether Obama did anything with a few very crude circulated emails about how someone had to make the call to kill OBL because Osama was too weak to do it.

Not quite, you have to extrapolate a fanciful scenario connecting as many characters and organisations as possible all while making it sound extremely nefarious. End it with a picture of a screaming fat woman for a good finishing touch.dcharlie wrote:(Am i doing this absolute garbage bullshit right?!)

I think we can all agree that Piers Morgan may have a hand in this! Let's get HIM!

I went through extra measures to make sure that the image quality was just ugly enough to blend well with her ugliness.
