Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Where has the wire come from, that you have now put on PIN17?
Yes, I do own a Sega Lindbergh.

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
I just bridged it with a small wire from the ground
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Can you take a clear picture of that bridge?
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
This is the SNES Schematic that matches my NTSC Snes Cable although I have an extra black cable (highlighted). I tried it in my with my setup & I dont get a picture. Do I have to change anything in the scart head?

Also although the wiring is in the same place etc but the colours do not match (so red wire is not the red for RGB its white ect)

Forget the colour coding.... you can't go by that.Beaps wrote:This is the SNES Schematic that matches my NTSC Snes Cable although I have an extra black cable (highlighted). I tried it in my with my setup & I dont get a picture. Do I have to change anything in the scart head?

I thought you said you had re-wired your SNES lead, that's why you don't get a picture now? Have you reverted it back to "how it was" now?
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
No mate I bought another one

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
And it was a NTSC specific one right?
The black wire is a composite ground so no problems with that as it needs to be there.

Think so, this is the one I bought

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Well... according to that it "should" work.
If you crack open the SCART end, have you got caps or resistors on the RGB lines? If you have caps what are the values written on them?

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
I'm loving this I am learning loads on how scart sockets work etc
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
I'm learning how to have uber patience!
And to think you never accepted my offer for your CT Cab on AO, yet sold it on eBay for less.

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Sheet!! Was that you? Oh sorry mate.
I thought you was like the rest of them lot on there, only out to take the piss. I don't go on there as often now as there are to many idiots. Thats why I just stuck it on eBay and went with that.
I was gutted when he picked it up and just dashed it in the back of transit van full of painters & decorators stuff.

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Also how did you know I knew you had a Linbergh. My mate knows you, said he's met you a few times & you have been around his gaff
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Just tried the snes cable & it worked for (weird)
PS2 still has crackels but I guess thats down to it being a PAL machine.
I really would like to add a power switch (on/off) to the Scaler so if you have any ideas please let me know
Ta

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
How you connecting you PS2 (I can't see if I aksed this previously) - SCART or Component?
On-Off switch. What do you need that for..... that's what the PSU is for surely!?

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
I'm connecting the ps2 via rgb scart using the official cable. Just thought tho it's pal so is that why the screen is jumpy?
Also it's ok about the switch I am gonna put one on the DC cable (like a light switch)

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Can you define what you mean by "jumpy".Beaps wrote:I'm connecting the ps2 via rgb scart using the official cable. Just thought tho it's pal so is that why the screen is jumpy?

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
The screen jumps. I saw a video of someone playing Metal Gear on PS1 with the same problem but I cant find it now?
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Also I am still getting lots of crackling on the screen & when the game starts I am getting No Signal only sound.

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
That appears to be a sync problem. I have a PAL PS2 with mod chip and get no such issues.
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Any ideas of what I can try?
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
It's going to be difficult to diagnose from afar.
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
How do you take the voltage supply for the LM1881 ? If you take it from Scart Pin 8 (or 16) it don`t work, because the official PAL RGB Cable have resistors into the cable.I'm connecting the ps2 via rgb scart using the official cable. Just thought tho it's pal so is that why the screen is jumpy?
And also try to use a 75 Ohm resistor to gnd for the input impedance.
Greetings Markus
Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Somewhat off topic, but...
What is the molex type for the two-wire connector that comes with the CGA2VGA scaler?
Can I order one complete?

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
Hello guys, I have a question.
I sell an plug in EL1883 based sync stripper which runs off the voltage in the expansion port of this board.
Somebody has told me today that the Master System doesn't work with it, but other stuff does.
I'm quite naughty because while I had almost every other console to test on it, I do not have a Master System right now.
Does anyone have any luck with Master System in any capacity? I thought of sending this person a free direct to 15 pin RGBS cable for the Master System to try, but it occurs to me the board itself might not like the Master System signal.
Would really appreciate anyone's input.
Edit: I just checked mmmonkey's compatibility list and he says this:
PAL SMS1 (after altering the RGB adjustment on the board, I run it in 60hz mode)
Not sure how that would bring it from "not working at all" to "working" - he probably means the colour didn't look great or something. Plus he's using a PAL system, customer is using NTSC.
If anyone has an idea what he's talking about I'd be grateful.
This is using a standard Genesis 1 lead by the way, 75 ohm resistors and 220uF caps, composite video used for sync, stripping it through the EL1883.

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
The jumping & the screen crackling seemed to stop when I flicked the Megadrive into 60hz. Then it started jumping again & eventually went off.
I wonder if its something to do with my home made sync stripper, I have a multimeter although I have never used it before
maybe I will have to get the sync strike when I free up some cash

Re: Modified CGA to VGA Scaler to accept clean sync RGB SCART
If you experience a sync issue with your CGA2VGA scaler and console, try adding a 220uf capacitor to the sync (PIN 20) on the SCART lead.
PCE's are notorious for sync issues and I have just done the above to the PCE scart lead - it appears to stabilise the picture 100%.
I don't really use this scaler that much, but get asked plenty of questions and am told about issues experienced - this is one specifically I have since looked into.
