Took me 5 to get to 20m, then I suicided because I had to get my ass to work the next day. Although, I wasn't really points pressing, I was more just playing the game. I could probably up that a few million points if I did the right stuff.

It's not really cool, it's just okay. It's competent if you avoid using like half the weapons/characters and don't use shields or bombs, but still nothing special. You really shouldn't get excited over it, it'll just let you down.

Still, the game's a whole lot better than the first one, so if they keep it up and get rid of all the broken shit they might make a sequel one day that's actualy good. That'd be nice.

The game has only been out for two weeks. What game at 2 weeks in, doesn't need a Balance patch?

No, I prefer this over the original game, but this does seem to lack modes in comparison.

Thats my main problem with it, theres like 13 things to actually do in Otomedius Gorgeous and ways to track your progress. In Excellent its like its 1985 again. You can push start to play single player, or you can push select and then start to play two player.

Sure don't remember any charge attacks instantly killing bosses/4 hp forcefields that aren't really forcefields, they're limits that only activate when you get hit/level 3 weapons that kill bosses like instantly/bombs in Gradius Gaiden. Neo Big Core was actually a threat, there, too, that attack he's got when the rank is high where he starts doing the high speed moving up and down and the shooting and the bombs at the same time always gets me, oh man.

I mean, there's overpowered stuff, and then there's this game. You get to like loop 5 on expert and it still requires freak accidents for you to actually die, it's crazy.

It's better than the first one is. There are a lot of broken things, but if you avoid using them the game is okay. The main problem with Otomedius G was that the level design sucked, and there's no way to avoid that.

I got my copy today and think it's awful. I'm even tempted to say this is the worst retail shmup on the 360 so far :(

Also it's ridiculous easy, I no missed the first loop of score attack on my very first try

Well got mine today along with Eschatos.

Is Otomedius Excellent widescreen only? My 360 is hooked up to a 4:3 screen right now and the bullets are really small and hard to see with the game letterboxed. Not a huge deal if it is, I just have to move the 360 to the other side of the room.

Or I could go back to playing Eschatos.

Like Gorgeous mode in Otomedius G, Excellent is Widescreen only.

Konami should work with what they have rather than making more spinoffs to Gradius then there already is. I'm not the biggest fan of Gradius myself, but even I found this to be a slap in the face.

Nevermind that last post. After hooking it up to my widescreen the same part still got me, but at least I figured out what was going on. On level 2, the second time the twins attack, there some yellow lasers that COMPLETELY blend in with the background. I literally cannot see them at all, until the glowing yellow background scrolls of the screen. Then later there's some transparent enemies (the boxes that materialize in the middle of the screen) that I wasn't seeing either. At least I know to move at those two parts; they're easy to avoid now that I'm aware of them.

After that I got the normal 1cc. Not that it means much.

But it's still very annoying that the only time I get hit is when I flat-out don't see what hit me. This game has extremely bad use of matching colors in the background and foreground. Enemies and bullets definitely need some thick borders to stand out more, or they could have just not used the bullet color in the background and transparent enemies sheesh.

<edit>

Also why do they call it Story Mode if there isn't any story? hehe

Actually, that part got me as well a couple of times... and you're right, it's exceedingly difficult to see the first pair of lasers that Tetran fires.

As for Story Mode having no story.. well, there are 'story elements' at the beginning of each stage as well as an actual ending (they aren't there in Score Attack)... also, you have the TLS if you play on Expert difficulty.

Contrary to what the title implies, this thread has a surprisingly small amount of information about this game's alleged US release, but it does have a lot of talk about why I maybe shouldn't care anyway.

Anyone use their first-print DLC code yet? Just curious if it's worth redeeming, I haven't found any videos using it yet.

You mean that T-301 code? All it does is give you a reskin of Vic Viper girl so she's a lot less colorful. Darker blues and dull grey instead of shiny metal. It doesn't actually do anything to the game, a video wouldn't be very interestin.

According to Gamestop, the US release has again been delayed to July 19th, but the price has also been lowered to 30 bucks.

Sounds great! I thought this wasn't expected until later in the year.

No it was supposed to be out on June 20th, But then all the dates shifted a month.

That's fine though, with how my achievement progress is going I'm still going to be playing this one then too, and I'm only missing one.

Here is an incomplete list of weapon cards that can be obtained in this game. I know it is incomplete because if it was complete, I would have my achievement:

Missiles:
Missile (2)
Twin Missile (2)
Spread Bomb (2)
Flying Torpedo (2)
Photon Torpedo (2)
Rocket Punch (2)
Hawk Wind (2)
Homing Missile (2)
Napalm Missile (2)
Vertical Mine (2)
Up Missile (2)
Small Spread Bomb (2)
Rolling Missile (2)
Search Missile (2)
Two Way Missile (2)
Floating Mine (2)
Bound (2)
Parabola (2)
Surface Missile (2)

Double:
Double (3)
Ripple Laser (3)
Tailgun (3)
Reverse Freeway (3)
Freeway (3)
3 Way (3)
Reflex Ring (3)
Vertical Double (3)
Boomerang (3)
Shotgun (3)
Wiper (3)
Back Double (3)
Winder (3)
Vertical Axis (3)
Reverse Double (3)
Ring Laser (3)
Auto Aiming (3)
T.Sword (3)

Laser:
Laser (3)
Vulcan (3)
Cyclone Laser (3)
Twin Laser (3)
Napalm Missile (3)
Wave (3)
Fire Blaster (3)
Search Laser (3)
Gravity Bullet (3)
Up Laser (3)
Down Laser (3)
Energy Laser (3)
Ion Ring (3)
Aqua Laser (3)
Armor Piercing (3)
Dagger (3)
Pulse Laser (3)
Back Laser (3)

Other:
Nen-Do-Ha (3)

Speed:
Speed
Speed. I
Speed. A
Speed. S
Speed. R
Speed. H
Speed. V
Speed. D

For people who are having problems finding these:

1. Make sure you do loops on normal, the only way to do that is in multiplayer mode, But like Versus Mission in Gorgeous, you can play it alone by selecting Local and then just pushing forward as if you were playing a single player game.

2. Destroy EVERYTHING. You should get Homing Missile 2 by the end of Expert Story mode, so use it, you might get random cards.

3. Despite not being displayed, you DO get to keep cards that you obtain before a Game Over, but also before you see them on a results screen. So if you have the choice between doing a loop over again, or suicide into that one bacterian at the end of stage 7, you might want to think about your choice really quick.

4. There are parts of bosses that look indestructible, I can tell you that they are NOT. If it flashes, you can kill it. Period. There's a specific instance where this is an imperative thing to do. I won't spoil it though, it's too funny.

5. Cards typically stop dropping after Loop 2 on Easy, Loop 4 on Normal, and Loop 6 on Expert. Konami can multiply. Thats not to say they won't keep dropping however, on Expert I went out to 8 and found cards pretty much the whole way, but new cards had stopped dropping for a while.

6. DON'T get discouraged. It's Castlevania's drop system, and IGA was the lead producer on this game. We should have expected this.

7. Fuuma is REALLY bad at bosses, even with things like Gravity Bullet. Your best bet is to use someone else who is utterly broken, and shoots in every direction with high DPS, like Esmeralda or Poini.

8. Speed cards do not drop, like other cards. You have to level one of the angels to get them, Each named level will net you a card.

I compared with the JP Wiki, you're missing Round Laser (ラウンドレーザー). Esmeralda gets this initially. Story mode, Expert, Stage 7 for Level 2. Stage 8 for Level 3.

Nope. I've got Ring Laser listed. somehow I fucked that one up.

Also, I played with Round Laser 3, with you, using the internet. :-P

You got the ones from levelling up Metalion girl? Because I dunno if they count or not, but I guess if you've got everything else and still no achievement then maybe they do.

Huh?! The same Gamestop page linked above now lists an Otomedius Deluxe "Collector's Edition", with the price back up to 50 bucks - the heck is Konami up to, and when do they plan on finally making some sort of actual announcement about it?

I went ahead and put in a preorder for it on Amazon, as they still have the $29.99 pricing and I'd like to lock that in if the price is really being raised again.
