In my opinion, anyone who says this game looks fan-made needs to reaquiant themselves with Broken Thunder.

At this point with regards to the footage from the youtube clip, this game looks great. Better than the screenshots in addition to doing better justice for overall quality. Not to mention the pace of the game in general, which bodes well.

So yes, I agree with Strider77's initial point: haters begone.

that´s what he told me in his mail long time ago, that he is involved in something "special". So it´s not officially been confirmed. Compare the artwork from his homepage to the ship and enemy models shown in TF6 so far.

I detect a stench of fanboyism coming from you, Strider77. :\

PS3 doesn't magically add detail to the texture, nor does make the models look and move less clunky, nor add enemy fire (unless the game contains only stage bosses and popcorn enemies that die before they have an option to shoot you), but I'm sure you know that anyway.
nope but it deinterlaces it into 480p.... trust me it makes a visual boost for PS2 interlaced stuff.

that's besides the point.

I am totally a TF fanboy no doubt. But I HATE broken thunder and not such a fan of 2 either. 3, 4 and 5 are my favorite. It has to be good and TF.

Would you be so kind as to list some of those 3D shooters so that I could try comparing them?
Don't know which GG's talking about, but R-Type Final, all the Psyvariars, Homura, Gigawing Generations and Shikigami no Shiro II and III are mostly or entirely real-time rendered. At least some of the recent arena glut are, too, though I don't know you'd call any but Super Stardust 3d (things like the untextured blobs in Everyday Shooter or Geo Wars vector "sprites" probably don't count). Cave's pre-rendered at least most sprites for 10+ years, as well, but, again, that probably doesn't qualify as 3d for this context.

Honestly what are you so spoiled by.... PLEASE I'd like to know so I can play these magical shooters.

Thunder Force III and IV?
I was talking 3D (hori) shooters.

You know I love 3, 4 and 5..... but 4 and 5 are my favorite. 5 is kinda ugly and 3/4 are old and not technically astounding looks wise now (don't take this wrong, I think they look great b/c of the 2D flavor they offer art wise and they push the MD).

But low and behold I play them more than for grafix.... why not wait to hate on it after you play it or have some sort of exposure to it. Alot of folks on her bitch about how reviewers don't even really give the game a chance or play it the right way, or even go through the game. To me saying it sucks before any hands on of any kind is the same damn thing.

Oh cool, someone else who correctly rates II above III.

Due to my inability to win auctions, I've never played TFV. Can anyone explain how Free Range works and wether its really anything different from Hunter (apart from stronger). So far, I'm not too chuffed with the weapon selection shown. Two "fire and forget" weapons and the open stage design we've seen so far renders Wave no more effective than the standard shot/Sever. (Wave's main advantage being scenery penetration)

I'm really hoping Rynex is selectable so I can use the near-perfect system from IV.

I know I'll get flak for this, so apologies in advance, especially because I also like G.Rev stuff but after seeing this:

http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=HcdulPl1L4s

...

Granted, not my cup of tea.

On the other hand, I absolutely hope TFVI will rock. It won't be a gigantic 'epic' in the same way Treasure stuff usually is but, come on... Ships, mechs, explosions and more. What else can I ask? Zero crap in that field.

The overdose of cutesy crap has been killing me nowadays. Graphics? That's secondary. The music.? Interesting! People, GUITARS, drumming, I think there was a bass too? (miracles can happen) For many that's the epitome of generic but for me it's heavenly and certainly a welcomed change.

Again, we are talking about ships (and sometimes HUGE ships), machine guns blasting everything, cool techno HUDs, the sky, the sea, missile barrages, rock 'n' roll, explosions, etc.

As much as I like the tits and girls and shit, I'm getting sick of the big eyes and cutesy crap cluttering many recent games. In small doses they are fine but when you check, for example, White-Canvas and pretty much ALL the shit on sale is cutesy girls you start begging for flying mech-fishes and surreal crystals.

Will TFVI put another Panzer Dragoon tribute? I always loved fighting the Golia from Zwei... Makes me wonder if they once thought about making a surreal crossover between TF and PD. I wouldn't mind Guardian Dragon as a secret boss.

Let's wait a bit. We never know if some on-the-fly changes will be applied.

Sly Cherry Chunks> you begin collecting a couple of weapons, craws and, eventually, you get free range. When you stop firing you can move the techno-grid around your ship and the lasers work at three distances, being range 1 the most powerful: blasts everything in one shot or a couple. The worst? It's semi-aimed so even if the enemy moves, the lasers will still shoot at it till they move outside the weapon's range.

The problem is that the weapon literally makes you forget about shooting, along with anything resembling difficulty. You hold fire and everything, including bosses, goes down in 5 seconds or less. Ironically, I read the entire game is built with Free Range in mind.

edit: some typo correction and stupid mistakes cleaning. It's one of those days... Even more typos corrected. Definitely not my day.

Yeah, maybe the reason is that TF2 was the first Thunderforce i ever played. Little details like the speech when you picked up a weapon (Side Blaster, Laser ... etc) and also the great playability (Only Exception _ Level 4-4) infected me instantly.

The Freerange differs very much from the Hunter, because it´s not aiming for the enemies automatically. If you want to get rid of enemy fighters behind your ship, you´ll have to move before the enemy to get him in the weapon range. You can wipe out anything behind you, but you´ll have to know when an enemy is coming from the right side of the screen and vice versa. It´s a powerful weapon, but not for every boss and stage.

Seems that you´ll have to improve your ability to win auctions, because it´s hard to explain whats so special about the Freerange. Go, check it out, now! :-)

I'm really hoping Rynex is selectable so I can use the near-perfect system from IV.

Rynex won´t be selectable at first. You´ll have to complete the game an then you can control "Rynex Kai".

PS: I have just received the information whos responsible for the Soundtrack :

- TAMAYO (Rayforce Series)
- Go Satoh (Raiden Series)
- Motoaki Furukawa (Gradius II)
- Tsuyoshi Kaneko (SGGG)

Bye,

Disappointing, but hardly out of line for the series, considering he only composed for one previous TF game (two if you count Broken Thunder/Project TFVI). Now, if this were Blast Wind 2 we were talking about...

What's more disappointing for a series tribute/revival is the lack of old Tecnosoft standbys like Toshiharu Yamanishi and Tomomi Otani, with Takeshi Yoshida doing boss themes.

- TAMAYO (Rayforce Series)
She left Zuntata?

Most likely she's doing the ending music or something. Her style is too slow for Thunder Force.
- Go Satoh (Raiden Series)
His music style doesn't fit Thunder Force at all.
- Motoaki Furukawa (Gradius II)
Most likely going to do the electric guitar in the background. His style is interesting, but if it was him doing the music for the trailer it's too slow for my taste.
- Tsuyoshi Kaneko (SGGG)
No comment. Never herd anything from him.

I wasn't too pleased with the trailer (music wise), but I'll wait for the OST to be released. It'll most likely be good, but disappointing since it won't match TF standards.

Now don't get me wrong, except for Kaneko I like the soundtracks from those artists. But I don't believe they can pull off the TF style of music.
But no Tsukumo

That's why it didn't made my day. I know that Tsukumo and Yamanishi are in the Doujin business working on H titles.

To be fair, none of the composers from the 8- and 16-bit days who are still working on 'professional' games write the same way they used to, so it's a bit naive to expect these fellas to even be interested in making the game sound like its predecessors. They're probably just trying to write memorable, energetic music with its own artistic purposes, that vaguely hints at some of the moods of the other games without trying to slavishly resurrect them.

I highly doubt the stuff Furukawa's writing today, for example, sounds anything like his Gradius stuff (as much as I'd like to hear a bit of spacey romanticism in my shmups again)...

I'd believe this. looking at the models in the game and the stuff on his site, it looks pretty close to his sort of style of modelling.

Strider77 wrote:How do you know? you can judge texture work from a low res video compared to VGA on the DC.... at least wait for a hands on look.
I have a pretty good eye, and like I say it was also the basic geometry.
You guys are looking to hate it.....
I think you need to re-read what I wrote last time.
G5 looked great border down did to but the poly count was deffinately lower and had less color and effects.
colour is a stylistic decision, not a limitation.

low poly counts can be used intelligently and work to an artistic advantage.
You do know that G-rev was responsible wore the backgrounds in G5 right?
yes.
Do you really feel that much more special then everyone else if you hate something that's liked. Does it make you elite?
Again, please read what I said, and having an opinion is something I`m entitled to, not something that places me in a better position than others.

If it looked balls out gorgeous, I`d be more excited about it, and again like i said before, I DONT HATE IT, I`m just disappointed they didn`t try harder in the graphics department.
So what games have you done texture work in then??? what amazing games have you worked on.
 Do you work for sega? why are you so upset about this?

I can`t be bothered listing my credentials to you, mainly because you`re just yet another angry, defensive, easily upset video game enthusiast on an internet forum, defending his chosen niche genre with a rabid intensity, that seems to think that subjective opinions that differ to yours are an affront.

I think that´s exactly the reason why Tsukumo is out of the race. He gave his name for the fuckedup shitgame that Broken Thunder was. He used the Thunderforce Name on almost every of his releases. Also his Factory Noise Page has vanished and it´s nearly impossible to buy one of his soundtracks right now. Seems that Sega (Tecnosoft) sued him or whatever. At least he caused a big hoax with the Broken Thunder Shit and we finally get a new Thunderforce. Maybe he´d waken up some long sleeping dogs. Thanks Funky Surounin.

best wishes

I find it interesting how people are bagging on TFV. When it was released all i heard was praise. Now fast forward to today and all i hear is BS. Why?, because there are bigger and better shmups now i quess and all that shimmers loses it luster after time. Anyway, those screens look awesome !

Nope. Sometimes it takes a while for criticism to set in. The game is flawed and shallow. Those are things people overlooked 10 years ago, since they were probably still drooling over Super Aleste and PC engine CD imports.

Still, there were bigger and better games released before TFV, like Thunder Force IV.

I'm starting to think there are only three or four levels in this game.

Point taken Rob. I just feel if it was good enough then its good enough today. The game is shallow compared to more technical shmups of today (cave). Then all that i cared about was survival and completion. Hell, those are still the things i like. I could care less about score and such, i like to dodge bullets. Thats what got me and most of us here to begin with before we had chaining combos and all that.

I will admit i love this game. I'm partial because i invested so much time that i almost completed it with the good ending with one life. I have never tried to accomplish that feat again. I chose normal mode with path's in order and did it with 2 lives at the last boss. Cheap bastard nailed me (oh, and yes i was whoring the freerange at the time, hunter to the rescue!))

Also to those who say this game is focused on one weapon is nuts (freerange). Other weapons are needed as well. I have never held onto that weapon the entire time (though i almost could just for the hell of it, still almost impossible)

Yeah, I still love thunder force 5. People can say what they want (free range blah, blah, blah) but it comes down to the fact I have alot of fun when playing it.

It and 4 are my favorite. I think 4 is probably the better game but I admit I enjoy 5 more.
