I also find the articles at insomnia.ac a good read. Not that I agree with him on every point, but he does say some interesting things. Too bad the person behind them is a complete asshole with an ego the size of a mountain.

I also find this true of postmodernism and random Japanese nationalists and historical apologists!

Probably because he's just repeating "interesting" things he reads. It is clear that he would rather post an expert (in his view) opinion than have to think for himself, even if it means rewriting it (that EOJ rewrite sample he gave is crap, btw). With him it's always: so-and-so expert/film critic/philosopher. He's afraid to let his words stand on their own, if they're even his.

Funny dude, though. :)

Now that you mention it, though, it does stick!

Can we bring back recap too? The arrogance and intolerance isn't high enough on this board.

Would one of you please translate what this insufferable peon just scrawled into the King's English? I'm too busy loading my stock of Coltrane LP sleeves into the fireplace for warmth to care.

i doubt he'll take me up on it, but i've said that i can do some cave reviews in return for a $50 donation to a charity of my trust (not the cave fund, natch). but i'm not really convinced if a single person registered on insomniac has ever even bought a pcb, including icy. so i think it's more "wow! look how hardcore we are! i've played this game twice in arcade but i give it 5 stars because it's cave! ...and mario sucks!" sort of bullshit posturing :? maybe i'm wrong. there's a high scores section in the forum, but no cave threads.. which is weird, because you apparently have to be a master at a game to review it :?:

It's either that or people will think you have no idea what you're talking about when it comes to the subject matter.

Personally, I'd just go for the whole video demo approach. Play the game for a while, and basically reiterate all of the features that are present in the game:

"You can shoot in two directions! There are obstacles you can't shoot past or go through! There's this weird gem-collecting thing that's essential for getting a high score! You can select how easy or hard you want the game to be before you play it! You get to pick your stage order! There's a STORY! And that concludes the video demo of Death Smiles!"

Stupid, cheesy, and boring reiterating information that people would already know from the start, but hey, that ain't stopping this guy from doing it for Wii games...no matter how bad they are.

Any thread involving icycalm that I read consisted of one intial post by him containing his actual on-topic opinion followed by endless posts insisting that he was more intelligent and better-read than the people who felt differently than him about a game or company。

The guy was one step away from a discussion about Guwange to telling anonymous strangers how well he understood Kierkegaard。 The ultimate freshman know-it-all cliche。

Like all angry nerds he now has a blog and a few sychophants。 Would he even come back to get laughed at?

Bad journalist?!

Seriously though, while many of my piers are lovely guys, there's a lot of very good writers in the wider field who go a long way to proving that being able to craft interesting and informative articles is directly related to arrogant self-confidence. Maybe Icy is just one of them!

In the future someone will run to the market place, and beseech of the townsfolk -- Whither is Icy? For we have killed him, you and I!!

Seriously, if you didn't grasp my first post, then I'm not going to expand. With every retarded comment you make regarding New Zealand Story it becomes clearer to me that you haven't even read Baudrillard, nevermind understood him. Retarded fuck!

Oh and ban.

He's either genuine and a fascinating case study, or his entire online existence is a beautifully woven fake account. Twiddle? ;)

He comes back every 100 years if we Belmonts don't remain vigilant and warn the population against wishing his return, just like George Santayana said.

The great thing is that GP (he was banned for arguing with GP, right?) probably went and fucked himself in the end.

Huge thanks to whomever posted the link to this:

icycalm:
As for what happened -- the same thing that has been happening ever since I started posting in videogame forums. I hold a mirror to people's faces, they see their ignorance and stupidity reflected in it, and then instead of learning from that and mending their ways they lash out at me, for showing them the mirror.

The Athenians poisoned Socrates for this.

The Jews crucified Jesus of Nazareth.

This is human nature.

AMAZING!
