How did you record it ? I couldn't access the service mode unless I modify the DIP (which needs reseting the game and aborting the record).
Just go into the dip switches (...) and you're off :)
Oh I see. I guess it requires NVRam file to playback, but it's better than nothing. Thanks !

Your stating this at the end!? I can guarantee a whole bunch of people have used the in-built hold start code to bypass some stages and get to easier 2nd loop opportunities.

Not me though.

Why would discovering a new code suddenly make people think cheat codes are ok? Would people really have used the Konami Code during that week if Gradius was selected?

well, I can asure you our team didn't use the level skipping cheat, even though it was a member of us that discovered it.

It would indeed be useful as 1-6, 1-7 and 1-8 are way harder than 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4 and probably 2-5 too. You could skip 1-7 and 1-8, maybe lose 3 to 5 million points, but then asure between 7 and 10 millions in the next 5 levels.

Now I'm back to try my 1cc on Gradius V (Finally a Treasure shmup I feel I can beat :) )

But thats a code for a home game. If its an arcade game then anything goes, and in Omega Fighters case the code is so incredibly simple to do that you can be sure it was used all the time in Japanese arcades.

The problem with people complaining about the cheat code is that, in reality, it is a useless feature in terms of a scoring competition: if you use it to skip a stage, then you lose 1.1mil+ instantly. While it can be useful to avoid certain deathtrap stages, you lower your maximum possible score as a result.

I'd rather take the risk and play the hard stages than wuss out with a code. In OFS, the hardest stages are also the highest scoring.

You lower your maximum possible score, but you can raise your REAL score. Maybe there are people who can't beat 1-7, but could beat 2-1, 2-2, 2-3, 2-4 and 2-5, and then actually score more.

The fact that you can beat 1-7 and score well on it, it doesn't mean EVERYONE can do it.

Redsun from our team made a pretty good score using the cheat and skipping 1-7, beating his score at that point (Before that he had made only around 9 millions, and when he skipped 1-7 he managed to score 13 million)... later he beat that score by playing properly (as shown here in this topic), but if he had never managed to beat 1-7, the level skipping would make his score better.

I am not even complaining, I am just pointing that it CAN be useful.

Of course its useless in the long run, but as Shatterhand pointed out it is an easy way to quickly get a better score. In a time restricted competition like this, obviously people are tempted to take the easy route.

We started out in a competitive spirit and then just got bored. Getting bored and getting served are two very different things.

DJ Incompetent: Kennyman666 is in two spots, 61 and 70. Other than that, the score list looks good (especially our place :P)

I'm not sure who the "losers" are. The grown men that score less in a video game high score competition or the ones that gloat about it.
