Try 1CC'ing Batsugun. I can say that if you want a tough "modern" shmup that is definitely 1CC'able then play this. Might take you a few months of practice though as it did for me.

Reminds me, need to get back into it and score that surly Jupiter boss proper. 8)

i would love a copy of batsugun and i'm sure i'll get one as soon as i get a saturn. played it briefly in mame and it seemed to be a lot of fun. it is toaplan isn't it? reminded me of fire shark but more modern.

oh and as for easier 1ccs you can easily do shienryu explosion as many have pointed out, but it's also worth playing after the 1cc as the possible score improvements are massive. really fun game to play both as a break from a more hectic game and for it's fun scoring mechanic.

i also have 1cc'd fire shark on the mega drive which is one of my favourite old school verts. very fun and helped me to develop some transferable twitch skills.
Number of 1cc's : 5
Now playing: Gunbird

Yes, the game is awesome, but it's painfully easy even on Maniac.
I disagree. There are so many parts where you'll die until you memorize the various attacks and obstacles, I can't see this being a good first 1cc. I think Gradius is a good place to start. The last level has some crappy spots, but other than those it's not too tough.

Yes, it is Toaplan and it's their last title. Great shooter with lots of fun hidden items to find for extra points.

The only thing about clearing Bakraid and Batrider normal course is that it's not very satisfying. You're really not even getting all of the stages of the game plus the diminished difficulty, so it's really kind of a borderline 1CC. I consider the Advanced course to really be the default since its the only way to play all the stages in one credit. Arcadia magazine, for example, did not even accept score totals from training or normal on either of these games.

That being said, yeah they are ridiculously easy to 1CC and a great place to start out building some confidence and work your way up from there. A decent player could probably 1CC these on normal within the first dozen or so credits. My brother 1CCed Bakraid Normal within his first couple days of messing around with the game and doesn't even play shmups regularly.

I managed to beat it without continuing on Normal the day I brought it home, and back then, I wasn't nearly as good at the genre (actually, I flat out sucked at shmups back in '90). And while you many die, it's continuing that's the key here, and finding extra lives in TFIII is pretty easy.

And oddly enough, Gradius always gave me more trouble

I only found Normal Course easy to 1CC when I accidentally got the homing option early on, and kept it for a long time. Without it, I wasn't 1CC'ing it.

SNES version of Gradius III.
It's easy, but it's one hell of an experience.

I agree completely with this, btw. I also don't think simply finishing the first 5 stages of Batsugun Special is a huge accomplishment/ real "1CC."

But when you're finished talking on the phone, reading the newspaper and completing APB Normal Course all at the same time you can try Advanced Course.

I'm terrible at horis and tonight I was able to 1cc Harmful Park w.o. much effort. I guess, though, that this is too easy to count as a "true" 1cc.

I'm just starting to practice up on gigawing. I dunno, but I find it easier to avoid the bullets than most of my other shmups... That, and it's awesome. As it is now, I can get to the second stage without getting hit. I can't remember how far I got before I had to continue.

The farthest I ever got on Dragon Blaze was to the second level without getting hit, and THAT was pretty hard for me... but I suck, so yeah.

Bah, all this stuff about what's a "real" 1CC and what's not is a bunch of hooey: even if it's a relatively easy 1CC, it's still a 1CC. Want a harder 1CC? Crank up the difficulty, switch to a harder mode, or play a harder game, and 1CC those (or, if it's the type of game that allows you to [Harmful Park's one of 'em], stop playing "for survival" and take some risks to score better). If someone else turns up their nose at your more-modest-than-theirs achievements, that's their problem: who appointed that person the one to decide what's noteworthy and what's not for everyone, regardless of circumstances and skill levels? If you want to aim higher, that's still no reason to deny yourself any credit for what you've done, it's not like you're bragging about it or anything. Just so long as you're aware that there's always room for improvement, I see no reason to worry too much about stuff like this.

Steel Dragon EX is proberbly one of the easiest games I've ever played. I actualy managed to Icc both games on the compelletion on my first go thanks to the overpower weapons and the easy attack parterns that both games have. (and by the way did I mention I suck at shoot-em-ups?)

Slap Fight (arcade). clearing the 1st loop of this game is no sweat, and the last boss is a pushover.

maybe the least difficult Toaplan shooter out there, but I still love it
