i dont think its on there, however its changing as he restores new games. he picked up congo bongo this weekend at the baltimore auction, and is working on restoring missle command and gauntlet 2.

YESSSS.. gauntlet!

The shmeet's in about a week, if I'm keeping track right...would you be able to PM me your address, so I could plug it into MapQuest sometime this week? No huge rush, as long as I get it before the day arrives.

Also, how many people total are we expecting at this point?

theres not been much of any response from those on this board, which is the only place i've posted.

i don't have a huge place so that's fine. i have many of my local friends coming to hang out with us as well as goto jeffs arcade. on last verified count before the board members (and whomever they are bringing) we have around 10 people.

dedicated shmuppers however we have about 2 including me, which is fine cause it'll keep the cabs open for whoever wants to run for highscores.

it would be cool to get more shmuppers off the board and people you bring, just post your exptected turn out.

i'll PM the addresses for those confirmed.

That'd be you, seeing as I'm not gonna score squat. ;) I am eager to try out Ketsui and Galuda II in particular, though. :)

In any event, I'll be flying solo this time out, as pretty much no one I know is into shmups, though I am working slowly on a couple of people. ;)

its gonna be all of us, since i've only got a couple days in for most of the games =) i _just_ got 7 mil on esp2 and only 8mil on esp, i'm no pro =/ it'll be good times.

bring friends just for the retro arcade, don't tell them about shmupping :D

I'm still trying to be there, I just don't want to be taking the trip alone so I'm seeing if I can get a friend to come along.

do you have an idea of when you are free or do you have one of those don't know my schedule till the week before jobs?

as most meet ups will work best on weekends, are sundays better?

I don't know my schedule. I work every friday and saturday night and sporadically during the week. Once I find a job with regular hours, I'll definitely find a way to get involved with the next meet.

BulletMagnet came and bumped the espgaluda2 highscore on my board to 12mil something. I dunno what his Ketsui score was, we swapped a bunch of boards over the day on the vert cab.

esp2
ketsui
esprade
battle bakraid

majority of crowd were local friends, phipps314 didn't make it out, him being the only other shmupper i was expecting to show up.. however a good amount of shmupping occured, and some excitement for them was shown by some of the locals.

the best thing is when people come play cabs they get all jazzed about them and want to get a cab too!!!! lots of response and lots of 'whens the next one?' questions.

after the holidays when life gets less busy.

thanks to BulletMagnet for making the trek to my pad and showing all the n00bs how to play manic fighters. :D

the night ended with the vert cab monitor dying out, so that's a new project for me before the next meetup.

Methinks I should mention that I pretty much just played it like ther first Galuda, and didn't even bother with "zesshikai" or whatever it was (it scares me), and that yes, I am aware that "real" high scores on this game are a digit longer than mine. ;)
I dunno what his Ketsui score was
I mighta broken 9 mil or so, I honestly forget...then again, I had only a vague memory of having read how scoring works in that game, so I mostly played for survival (it wasn't half bad difficulty-wise till stage 3 or so...the boss pwned me, as they say).
thanks to BulletMagnet for making the trek to my pad and showing all the n00bs how to play manic fighters. :D
Being one of the more experienced shmuppers in the group was a whole new sensation for me, heh heh. Btw, that reminds me, I think I left the paper bag to wear over my head at your place...keep it as a memento, if you wish. ;)

Ouch, I must have left right before that...hope it's not too much trouble to fix it.

Anyways, thanks much to bay for holding the shmeet, and to his pal with the basement arcade for allowing us to drop by as well. A fun day: I got to play Galuda II and Ketsui for the first time, fiddle with hardware, and shmup on a joystick for the first time in who knows how long. I look forward to the next time I can drop by, thanks again for being a generous host. :D

I'm definitely up for the next meet. As long as it's planned well in advance so I can give ample notice for a day off, I'm in.

i had them on the list but now i've officially got em.

1 - donpachi
2 - dodonpachi
3 - dodonpachi dai ou jou
4 - mushihimesama

dodonpachi II is on the way, will be here before the shmeet, shmupmeet, whatever you want to call it.

from oxtsu's impressions of mushihimesama on a cab versus the ps2, he was way more impressed with the pcb & detail. i'm gonna check it out myself tonight, i was just playing donpachi for a bit. i like oldschool, and even tho the saturn ports are great, this was better on a cab... as expected.

Cool, another one I haven't played yet.

For the moment the 24th looks good for me, I'll let you know if anything otherwise comes up.

Same here. Is there any feasible way to get there from NYC without a car?

most definately. you have 2 options by train.

1) get to hoboken via path, take the main line train to hawthorne.
2) goto penn station, take the main line train to hawthorne, requiring a transfer at secaucus junction.

* not all main line trains stop at hawthorne, check scheduling.

there may be a bus that comes close, but i don't know it offhand.

Wow. I had no idea these meets existed. I kinda stopped playing Shmups for a while but I just got back into them. I live in southern Westchester and could easily get to anywhere in NYC, but it's a shame I'm in college now. I will definitely try and make one of these though.
