The problems I have are possible to reproduce with no source at all, just the OSD up.
I used the Elgato passthrough which conceptually should be similar to a splitter, and that worked fine. Then I ran rt4k -> switch -> elgato -> tv and the moment the switch is in the mix even OBS can see the problems - it's easier to tell on the audio as even inaudible issues cause the meters to drop or peak.
Another interesting note a second matrix switch arrived today (which im already returning) - that one was nearly perfect as long as you didn't try to output the rt4k to two destinations at once. Turn on output 1 + 2 and sometimes even the picture drops out like the signal is weak. Seriously wtf is going on here - both switches had zero issue with any other HDMI sources being split and switched.
I also tried different 1080P mode lines, some were worse but none were better than the default 1080P.
It's proving hard to isolate and I can't really definitively point the finger as it's the combination doing it. It's not the PSU I've tried several and it's now sitting with a 4A one.

+1
Is anyone having any genuine 100% success with an HDMI switcher with all of their sources and absolutely no problems? I'd love to hear of a switch that actually works. I gave up on HDMI switching entirely years ago.
It doesn't work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I've been struggling with it since HDMI 1.4. I don't believe a switch exists at any price. I'd love to be wrong about that, but I don't believe there is one. Not today, at least. Even if one person has an amazing unicorn success, we still can't gauge display compatibility--and that seems to just as inconsistent as the switches themselves.
Of course, this all goes back to the way Sony and Disney designed HDMI. It's intentionally crafted to force a direct connection to the display. It's a DRM standard.

Re: Retro Tink 4K - Problem with 4K video output
So I've found two working splitters via help on discord:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B083JVPXDY - I was dismayed to find the HDCP which keeps me safe from supporting crime had vanished!
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07J2Q9NPH
I've been told that this works so I've bought one on ebay, it's not here yet (EZ-MX42PRO-HAS):

Edit - also got an Extron matrix switch - fail, same as the others.

Hm. Try testing a combination that didnt work and putting a basic splitter between the matrix and the 4k. This just worked for me.

Update 1.7.6 that just came out might help things as well?

Re: Retro Tink 4K - Problem with 4K video output
I have that ezcoo splitter everyone suggests and it worked for awhile. A month or two ago though it stopped sending my XSS and PS5 through it, though the tink4k was still working. I just replaced it with this one https://a.co/d/aRjUTg9 and after some preliminary testing this weekend its working great with my PS5, XSS. and tink4k. Supporting 4k120 for the PS5, along with VRR, and HDR. My set up is to run everything into an 4k switch, which I also changed out since I was having some issues with a previous one, I grabbed this https://a.co/d/bgZsbaG. Also seems to be working great with everything after some preliminary testing. For 1080p stuff I have had really good luck with the tesmart 16 port 4k30 switch. Which they don't seem to make any more, and have replaced it with a 4k60 switch. Which you think would be better, but people have issues with Surround Sound PCM through it. Which is not a problem on the 4K30 Switch. For me 1080p sources (and any analog sources) feed into the tink4k. Which goes into that switch above, then into the splitter. One end of the splitter goes to my AV receiver, and the other goes to my Elgato capture card. I used to split things after the receiver, but the newer receiver I have doesn't do audio over its HDMI, just sends video.
