I've always had modded consoles, but I think with an unmodded console you can also get a memory card with Free McBoot installed and then launch games off a HDD using OPL. There may also be a way to launch PS2 discs using FMCB. This doesn't work with PS1 games. There's a tool call Popstarter, but AFAIK it's just an emulator and if you're using an emulator you may as well just use a PC.pulsemod wrote:Unless things have changed recently, the only ways to run out of region discs on a retail PS2 are with a modchip, the 'MechaPwn' exploit that only works with specific models, or swap magic which involves swapping discs.
If you're softmodded you can also play out of region games from burned discs or off the HDD/network but obviously that's not the same as legit discs.
I agree DC and PS2 are a pretty good choice, although I go back to my previous point that there's no right answer with this, just buy a console which has a few games you like the look of. If you get sick of those, maybe look at something else. But between a PS2/DC and Mister, you have a LOT to keep you occupied.
You may need to do a little research, but JoshProd is known for low quality ports. Bad scaling, I think some run at 30fps. Not sure about input lag, but I wouldn't be surprised.shmupsrocks wrote:Too bad. It looks like Joshprod made a lot of titles. Is it lack of polish, input lag, or something else?
