I saw that New Zealand one and yeah it's still an bad ending, your fellows faced an unknown fate.
Well, the ending tells the player that Tiki (the 1P Kiwi) goes on to rescue each kidnapped sibling and finally saves his beloved Phee-Phee
Same thing for Liquid Kids, too.

The greatest mystery still remains, though:

...why Taito dedicated a whole game to New Zealand? And why no rugby and sailing references, since the game is set in NZ?

Jokes aside, a whole thread could be dedicated to Taito's cutesy games and their wacky settings.
"The only desire the Culture could not satisfy from within itself was one common to both the descendants of its original human stock and the machines [...]: the urge not to feel useless."

Boy would you all love Yoko Taro's writing, especially Drakengard and Nier...

He even had a bit when he told everyone during an interview that death was inevitable anyway, so everything has a 'bad ending' after the credits roll.

Reminded of the OG Snatcher ending, where it wraps at Junker HQ. Authentic future noir, a bleak lonely struggle on. Image Image

Specifically via the OST version of "Beyond Sorrows," where Snatcher taunts Gillian on the futility of man with his goofy robovoice after Gillian blow he head off Image *bzzt bzzzt*

Swerve upon swerve upon swerve upon swerve - I haven't seen Vince Russo that outclassed since the last time Cornette opened his mouth!
At first the audience is lead to believe that the terrible pendant is going to corrupt the incorruptible hero.
And then we're teased with a Monty Python origin story.
But no, now we're off to the most redoubtably comfortable Arnold Lobel tale never spun:
"The unspeakably evil stone is calling to us from the depths of the pit, offering us dominion over man and beast and time and space alike!" said Frog.
"I would rather sit in the garden and watch the rain" said Toad.
And so Frog sat with him.
And yet another swerve with the emergence of the traditional ill omen, a night black raven - surely we'll have resolution here?
No?

And it still has another subterranean trick up its sleeve?!

A predictably riotous and yet utterly unpredictable showing, Dr. B!

Also some endings in Dracula II/Castlevania II were made worse than intended by mixing up the ending text (like bad ending text with good ending picture, etc). Even the original FDS version did this.

Smartarse answer: Any game that loops infinitely and doesn't have a Pac-Man integer overflow bug.

Your victories, no matter how numerous, will eventually be in vain.

I dunno, the overflow bug is technically a bad ending. No ending, everything just glitches out or players get killed without touching anything (Donkey Kong's bug).
