Hotd4 is a streaming game, would likely not use anywhere near the full ram of the lindburgh. I can not think of one genre that would require 1gig of ram unless it was to eliminate loading times.

As for performance, the 360 destroys lindburgh technically.

Yes, but that's usually for audio, since the Naomi doesn't stream sound data from a CD. Since the DC can read the music of the GDRom, that makes little to no difference. Correct me if wrong, though.

I was on the Nintendo NSider forums recently, and someone had the following to say about HDTV's and light guns:

"Here is a little bit of info for you guys...Guncon Games don't work on HD. Thats right they cant work it at no point what so ever..Se HD can't do sprite recognition well. In any Light gun game needs to recognize points in your tv so it can access the target area. Regular Tv's can do that but HD sets are not and I can say this in the definitely level."

Is this true? (And, OT, when the heck did Lethal Enforcers 3 come out??) I certainly hope not, or we may not see House of the Dead 4 on the 360! (Virtua Cop 3 was supposed to come out for the XBOX, but I don't know what's happened to it.)

As far as the Sega games running on the 360, I seriously doubt that Sega would even plan games for release on the 360 without knowing the 360 hardware first, and therefore knowing that their games can run on it.

To be more accurate, light guns really only work on CRTs because other types of TVs don't have fast enough refresh rates to send the signals properly to the gun. Recently someone has put out a "light gun" that uses a sensor above the monitor to determine position, which should work with HDTVs.

I think the 360 should be able to do very good if not perfect ports from Lindbergh. I've played HotD4, and it doesn't look to be above the 360's capabilities.

The only possible issue could be RAM (Lindbergh = 1 GB, Xbox 360 = 512 MB). Lindbergh is PC hardware like Type-X and Konami's Longhorn (the board in Lethal Enforcers 3/Seigi no Hero).
I remember something, Outrun 2 was running on the Sega Chihiro board, which is just an XBOX with RAM upgrades and an GD-ROM drive. Outrun 2 required 512 MB RAM in order for it to work on the arcade machine. When porting it onto the XBOX, it was hard for Sega to port the game onto the XBOX because the XBOX only had 64 MB RAM. Well somehow Sega was able to compress it and pull off an arcade perfect port of Outrun 2 for the XBOX.

Well, if Sega was able to pull it off, anything is possible.

Quake aside, that is a nice haul, jp. Have fun playing with Live Arcade and surfing through the system's slick menu tiles, ya punk. And I will second the hope for region free Senko No Ronde. Actually, a petition to GRev asking them to leave the disc region free might be a good idea. I mean, that's a petition involving a reasonable request for an already announced port. :)

Vexorg's news about an HD compatible light gun is good! Although I don't think we'll see a release of Virtua Cop 3-IGN still lists it as TBA 2005, which isn't very encouraging considering that this is 2006! I can't find a listing for Lethal Enforcers III anywhere!

@Dylann1CC, a reasonable request that definately is, but whether or not G.Rev would treat such a request resonably is another matter-color me pessimistic, but I just don't think most game companies care.

I'm not convinced it's up to them anyway. They're not the ones actually publishing the game, after all.

Outrun 2 was not converted to Xbox by Sega. It was outsourced to some company in the UK.

Also, arcade games never have loading times... Home versions almost always do.. So less ram is obviously required by default wether its Chihiro, Naomi or whatever.

I have Call of Duty 2 and Kameo. Both are great games. Kameo has the best textures, normal maps or whatever term it is, I've seen yet in a game. Just looking at the ground, walls, rocks whatever it's stunning. The water is ace too.

It plays sort of like a simplified Zelda. Actually it kind of reminds me of Wonder Boy III switching characters for different tasks. I hate the way Deep Blue (the character, not that awful tg-16 shmup) controls though and for some reason I can't seem to figure out what to do with the horn flower thing. Anyway good game.

All those cool games that were scheduled for the 31st have been pushed back into the fall. Bah! Now the 360 is turning into another DS.
"Jan. will be the month of the 360!"
"Feb. will be the month of the 360!"
"March will be the month of the 360!"
"Man! I sure can't wait for something to actually come out this summer!"

Phooey. Ah well, I haven't beat any of the games I own, and I still need to purchase Call of Duty 2, Perfect Dark Zero, and Condemned. So it shouldn't be as bad as the DS was. :)

And I got S-VIdeo cables today. So now I have optical cable usage for sound and S-Video. HUZZAH! And I'm currently ripping the entire Tecno Soft/Radiant Silvergun/Panzer Dragoon music collections on to my 360. I tried using my copy of Taromaru hoping it could read the Redbook audio... but alas... no Taromaru music on the 360. Thank God I went ahead and bought all those OSTs eh? ;)

Also got tons of great Fabio Frizzi (if anyone is familiar with Lucio Fulci, its his music guy) music CDs in case of cool zombie games! :)

If you have your 360 connected to your network at home, why not just stream MP3s off your computer? That's what I'm doing, and it works quite well for the purpose (especially if they're already there.)

I don't have it hooked up to a network. We don't even have one right now. My roomate has cable for his laptop but neither of my laptops are online right now (and both have been wiped recently so there's no music there anyways).

In Feb. I'm going to set up our wireless router and get the wireless adapter for the 360... but I doubt my laptops will be online even then. So I'll just put some nice stuff on the HD and roll with it. I doubt I'll use up 13GBs anyways.

BTW, here's some info on Lethal Enforcers 3:

http://www.barcade.com/game_detail.php?type=game&id=426
http://www.zax.com.au/lethalenforcers3.html
http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=628 ... Id=5380373

Looks like you kind of "run" through the game! Crazy!

Man, I hope this game gets a console port! @Vexorg, who's making that HD-compatible light gun?

So JP, how does the 360 look in S-video compared to the first XBOX? Just curious; I've only played 360's on HDTV's or monitors at game stores.

I don't remember exactly where I saw it (Lik Sang?), but I think it was going to be a PC peripheral. I imagine that with CRTs slowly disappearing from living rooms that HD-compatible gun peripherals are going to eventually make it to all the platforms. I haven't really played gun games on a console in ages, so I'm not too familiar with what's there now.

The position-tracking lightgun, like Vexorg was talking about, has been used on a number of large screen arcade Sega lightgun games. I imagine that's going to end up as the ideal solution for lightgun games on non-CRT displays.

HD isn't the issue so much as the changing display technologies. Traditional lightguns require a scanline based technology to work, while many new HD sets are LCD or Plasma. I don't think lightguns ever worked well if at all on projection sets, either. CRT HDTV sets would be fine, the Dreamcast gun worked equally well on all DC lightgun games with both a standard definition TV and with the VGA box.

I got DOA4 today for this machine.

Jesus H Christ on a donkey this game is hard. Take DOA3/U, put it up to maximum difficulty and get your face pummeled into the dirt. That's normal mode on DOA4. It's simply too fast for a mere fighting game mortal like me - im struggling to get a kick in before an 8 hit combo kills me, and even when I do get a move off, it's reversed on me, and followed with a sound beating.

Hardcore fighting fans will appreciate the changes no doubt, the rest of us less so, to say the least.

It has infinite continues. It took 25 or so to beat that stupid ninja guy, and he was only the 4th opponent in one set of battles. As a comparison, I can walk DOAU without dropping a round.

Just got done playing Dead or Alive 2 LE for the DC. Just why in the hell did Tecmo enlist AeroSUCK to do the opening music for DOAs 3, Ultimate, and 4? Exciter is a pretty cool song and I'm sure the band who did that could've come up with opening songs more appropriate to the games.

Anyhow, I think that the DC still puts out the best visual quality of all consoles...360 included. I have the DC, GC, PS2, XBOX and the 360 hooked up via component (DC running on VGA to component converter) on a 27" CRT HD ready Samsung. The colors are just more vibrant and textures sharper on the good old DC. The 360 is still a monster, though!

It's because Itagaki is awesomely absurd and absurdly awesome. I don't have a copy of the interview to post, but he wants an Aerosmith song in all the DoA games now because the movie Armageddon profoundly affected his life.

Armageddon made me profoundly barf. What a dumbass. But at least he can make some pretty good games. Just as long as there won't be Aerosmith garbage in the upcoming Ninja Gaiden games. Or maybe he'll put some Bette Midler songs on them...
