Found another one. This game looks awesome. Need to see if there's any decently easy to obtain ports. I love games like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvUhYI2kj0M

Shill time, since this is sooooooooorta what I've been trying for with my game.
The moment I committed to actually having sprite art and cool visuals (as opposed to say, vector art or something stick figures) I pretty much committed to getting an aesthetic that was unique and told the story.
I didn't want something generic (IE fighter jets vs big tanks), so I went with a fantasy setting and aimed for really evocative and macabre enemy designs.

There's a bit of X-Multiply and IREM influence there too, but more slanted towards Beksiński than Giger.
Originally I wanted a Taito/Zuntata-esque ost, but the composer I hooked up with was more metal oriented...so we worked out a Siter Skain / Hyarkuto influenced style that I think fits well enough.
Also been putting a lot of effort into making the weapons flashy and cool.

Put a lot of effort into figuring out a Gun Frontier-esque screen distortion on giant laser bomb too.

Instead I am stuck in the America's where women rule with an iron crotch, and a man could get arrested for sitting behind a computer too long.

Definitely MUSHA. That sweet, sweet Genesis metal soundtrack. Also one of the first enemies you encounter are flaming skulls.
