Jap Xbox 360
That's how I feel. At the end of the day I'll be able to play many of the good western games on my PC.
And one more thing. When the 360 launches in Japan on the 10th of Dec, I bet that a lot of these units will find their way to the states in no time. I seriously doubt that they'll sell out over there.

With only a few launch games, and no games in any genres that really excel in the japanese market, I seriously doubt it'll sell well at all.icycalm wrote:That's how I feel. At the end of the day I'll be able to play many of the good western games on my PC.

Well, it does have more J-RPGs (Tengaimakyo, FFXI) plus racing games are super popular in Japan as well, so that's not quite true.Acid King wrote:With only a few launch games, and no games in any genres that really excel in the japanese market, I seriously doubt it'll sell well at all.
You're still right about the not selling well part, though.

To me the Xbox, and probably soon with the 360, are a niche but growing market here in Japan. Just like there are shmup enthusiasts outside of Japan where they're not nearly as popular, there are FPS fans in Japan who are rabidly importing US and Euro games and scouring over PC and Xbox news late into the night until they quietly fall asleep nestled alongside their Kasumi DOA body pillow. I mean, that's what I picture anyway.

Hi everyone,
I'm still on a quest to find out if the PAL Xbox 360 will play ALL games at 60hz. I've never had a straight answer because I don't think anyone knows.
So I'll most probably end up buying either a PAL or US xbox 360 so I can play the games that need English text and play them at 60Hz, and then a Japanese one when all the shmups come out, so I can play them in their original format. That's what I did with PS2.
I don't like all this modding business, I'd rather just buy the machine twice.
Cheers

But launch titles are the issue here. Not launching with solid titles of a genre is not smart. If it had an RPG, some action games, and (gulp) something from the shooting scene (even Senko no Ronde) I'd say it could have a good launch. The only game that might've sold units, DOA4, is now not available at launch.Well, it does have more J-RPGs (Tengaimakyo, FFXI) plus racing games are super popular in Japan as well, so that's not quite true.

I'm not sure it's even legal in some countries to not have a 50hz option... also, if they're going with the typical shitty composite cable, there's still a significant portion of PAL TV's that don't like 60hz CVBS, only RGB.Leeram wrote:Hi everyone,

...and suddenly, a very freaky wormhole opened, and 4 3-foot tall market analysts fell out...
I was just at the new Akihabara Yodabashi Camera(now the biggest electronics store in Akihabara) and saw the 360 display they had up. It was nicely displayed and all, but no one was there. It was just vacant, and the video game section of the store was actually pretty crowded to the point that, while I wanted to buy a game, I didn't because I didn't want to wait in the super long line.
The 360 also had two demo units running but not many people were really near them. I saw some people curiously run some videos, but that was about it. At the same time there were crowds of people gathered around the other various video screens featuring PS2, PSP, and DS games.
So yeah, in conclusion, I don't think there's much 360 interest going on in Japan.

It seems Japanese Xbox 360 games so far are sadly not region-free according to Play-Asia's initial tests
This doesn't bode well for Senko No Ronde, but we can still hope.Play-Asia wrote:Manufacturers may or may not decide to lock their game discs to a specific region. If a game disc is code-free, it will work on any machine. If a game is not region-free, it will only work for the console that it is intended to use for. In case of US Games, that would be a US Console, in case of Japanese Games, that would be a Japanese Console.
US Games:
Ridge Racer 6 (region-free)
Call Of Duty 2 (region-free)
Quake 4 (region-free)
Condemned (region-free)
Tony Hawk's American Wasteland (region-free)
Gun (region-free)
Amped 3 (region-free) (not working on jap. system)
Japanese Games:
Ridge Racer 6 (not region-free)
Perfect Dark Zero (not region-free)
Every Party (not region-free)
Need for Speed Most Wanted (not region-free)
Tetris: The Grandmaster Ace (not region-free)
FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup (not region-free)
It seems, unfortunately, all japanese games so far are region coded. We were not able to acquire stock for all games, the situation may change if we have more games to test.

OT: No shit? Yodobashi finally opened up shop outside of Shinjuku? How many shops? They couldn't possibly be as large as all 18 of the Akiba Laox combined though, could they?I was just at the new Akihabara Yodabashi Camera(now the biggest electronics store in Akihabara) and saw the 360 display they had up.

If people want stuff like Senko No Ronde to be region free, you should email G.Rev and state this. Or dare I say it, a petition (I hate myself now). They're more likely to listen to this than 'OMG DREAMCAST PORT' since making the game region-free incurs much less cost (if any) than producing Dreamcast disks for what they seem to consider 'low' sales. Even if the sales of Senko No Ronde outside of Japan are abysmal, it's not like they really lost any money by not setting the region flag.

Yep! It just opened maybe 2 months ago. It's on the other side of the station, but it's huge, with 9 stories and tons of floor space. People were talking on the news about how it might kill the tradtional Denki-gai area, since it's on the other side, but I haven't really noticed much of a change aside from both sides being crowded now. You should check it out next time you come!GaijinPunch wrote:OT: No shit? Yodobashi finally opened up shop outside of Shinjuku? How many shops? (edit)Oh yeah, it's just one enormous store. They even have a restaurant floor at the top and multiple cafes lining the ground floor. I'm not quite sure how it compares to all the laox shops combined in size, though.
When Treasure told us those two things "Radiant Silvergun is part of a trilogy" and "We make a new shooter for the xbox 360", I decided to buy a japanese Xbox 360 and Radiant Silvergun 3! It might be expensive, but nobody can hold me back when a sequel to my loveliest game gets released =)

As long as it has a shitter, it's a welcome addition. Getting stuck in Akihabara and being a few blocks away from Dotour and McDonalds is bad. O_o(edit)Oh yeah, it's just one enormous store.
