XBOX 360 has problems!!!!!!!!!!!
People are probably just too dumb to keep the AC adaptor properly ventilated. I mean the thing effectively has its own onboard fan, common sense would say you keep it relatively free of obstruction.
Some of the clientele that trade in games at my store literally brought in GBC games that had dried human feces on them once. Someone paid for something at one time with money that was DRIPPING WITH FRESH BLOOD. These aren't the kind of people that thing "proper ventilation" when they look at their game system.
We already had someone trying to return an opened core system based on how it "doesn't work," because it doesn't save games out of the box, despite this being explained to the person like ten times prior to purchase and how they'd need a memory card/etc.
Seriously, game technology has actually reached the point where the average New Jersey moron simply cannot handle it.
It makes me wonder how many of those twenty systems had a valid defect and how many got a busted up power source because the owner poured kerosene onto the ac adaptor and torched it so that they could have a light on while playing Need for Hot Underground Pursuit Speed Rivals: Again.

Center of the state would probably be a bit further than an hour or so north of me, but yeah, I can sure vouch for the Jersey idiots.........must be somethin in the water here, or all the toxic waste dumps.......
I work in a game store now too, and have yet to see any tradeins with human fluid on them (thank GOD). I did just have a guy try to sell the store a dead X-box to each of our 3 different employees on 3 different days.........didn't he realize we check incoming systems after the first try?

I got my box up and running this evening, and spent several hours playing stuff (mostly Kameo, but with a couple of good Geometry Wars sessions in there, as well as online multiplayer Gauntlet, something that's gotta' go in the "holy grail of gaming" category...) Didn't hang once during the whole time I played it. I've got it (and the power brick) out in open air with clear airflow, which should help if the problems are occurring with confined spaces.
BTW, if anyone else happens to be playing it at this point, my Geometry Wars high score right now is 189,575.

Microsoft admits a few 360s have problems, but I think they are handling it well.
http://www.evilavatar.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7414O'Donnell urged anyone with Xbox problems to call 1-800-4myXbox or go to http://www.xbox.com. If the problems can't be resolved immediately, Microsoft said it will pay to ship the console overnight to a repair center, overnight it back once it's fixed, or ship a replacement.

The 360 has larger vents then any other console I've ever seen in my life; if these things are overheating, then it's for the same reason that PSTwo's overheat-people don't give them enough room to ventilate. You have to do that with ANY console, or household appliance, for that matter. Of course, I just love on here how when something like this happens with Sony gaming hardware, it's all Sony's fault.
I wouldn't be surprised if the average failure rate for new consoles is 10%; but that still means that at least 90% of them are running fine.
@JP please don't call people "dumb" on here partly for saying that the PS3 may outsell the 360. You don't know any better then anyone else in the gaming world which console will come out on top-no one will know until all three have been released, and even then it will take a while to determine which one is the winner. And at any rate, who cares? Get the one, or ones, that you like best and don't worry about it.

All things considered, the lanch did go very well. And I think the line-up of launch titles looks great; heck, I'd buy one if I had the money. Nice story about Gates, people will always bash him, but, honestly, he's given more to charity then any other US-celebrity that I know of.jp wrote:And factor in the fact that Bill Gates gave everyone who waited up to buy an Xbox 360 a present (took off $50 on the purchase... everywhere, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc.), I would say MS did a damn good job with the 360.ST Dragon wrote:Wow!! eBay link!
Eighteen launch titles, with about four or five of them being actual "NEW" titles (Ridge Racer 6, Perfect Dark Zero, Condemned, Project Gotham Racing 3), the rest just being ports of already existing multi-platform games.
Ridiculous amount of defective hardware.
Easily the worst launch ever.
Does anybody remember the Dreamcast launch by the way? What games were available for it?
Some consider it as the best console launch ever, but was it so?

Style as in trying to take over your living room, overhyping hardware, poorly thought out launches, malicious sales practices, and a dearth of good games at launch time? I'm so glad $ony and Nintendo could never be accused of that.. Oh wait well certainly not $ony of all people, I mean they're from Japan, right?circuitface wrote:I was being dumb.

Dave that's funny you should recommend that I go back and read someone's post when you skipped over a few posts yourself. My post was making fun of the claim that there is a "microsoft style." All 3 console manufacturers seems to be really close in "style" to each other. SAM even pointed out that all of the consoles are made in china.dave4shmups wrote:Dude, how long have you been on these forums? And Sega wasn't perfect either with their hardware; go back and read Andi's post in this thread.
Maybe Sega wasn't perfect but I think their exit from the console market coincided with the increasing corporatization of the console manufacturers. Thus my claim how all 3 are increasingly similar to each other.

Ok my apologies, then. I think all 3 consoles, and their designers have great potential-I'll probably end up with at least 2 of 'em myself. And corporatization has always existed in some form or another with video game systems-the fact that it's increasing is partly due to the increasing market for video games; of course there's going to be more corporatization in the video game industry when it's racking up more annual sales in this country then Hollywood. The n00b wrote:Dave that's funny you should recommend that I go back and read someone's post when you skipped over a few posts yourself. As far as increasing similarity goes, I can see your point when it comes to Sony and Microsoft, but Nintendo I don't know about. Whatever, I love video games, so I enjoy all the hype, trailers, promo stuff, and everything else that goes along with my favorite industry.

My piece of mass-manufactured consumer electronics designed primarilly for 18-25 year old males is classier than your piece of mass-manufactured consumer electronics designed primarilly for 18-25 year old males.circuitface wrote:Really i just find the X-Box lacking in class. It's a box of electronics that plays games in pretty much the same manner as every other box of electronics that plays games before it. What kind of "class" are we talking about, exactly?
As for the actual launch... hardware defects aside (and for every person who complains about it there are a hundred soccer moms pestering Wal*Mart so they can have one for little Billy), Microsoft couldn't have asked for a better launch. The fact that the actual software lineup is pretty bad doesn't really mean anything now that they have many units in many homes (and honestly, the launch isn't any worse than the PS2 or Gamecube's, both of which came into their own later on).
Jesus. I don't like the big gay green X and i don't like how they try to make it all extreme with the '360000'..... swoosh! 360? That doesn't even make any sense. I also hate thier advetising campaigns that try to do the same 'in your face x-treme coolness' thing. I just don't like the style. That's all i said. Now everyone chill the fuck out.
Godzilla was an inside job
Here - this is what i mean...
Christopher Walken = Cool
Bette Midler = Uncool
The Sony Playstation is to Chrsitopher Walken what Bette Midler is to the X-box.
Are we clear now? The X-Box is just all around gay and uncool. I still own one - and will eventually buy a 360 - but that doesn't stop me from admitting that they are really retarded looking and uncool. They suck. If you think X-Box is cool you probably own a Dokken album or are in junior high.

Well, shops will act like they know nothing about this. And you really have to push them to get this done. A single mother will not get this done.Super Laydock wrote:At least 1 good thing in Dutch consumer rights is that no matter what the company grants you for a warrenty period, there's an "certain expected lifetime without product disfunction" warranty. Two muscle-powered bouncer brothers will.
In Holland few know anything about consumer rights. I myself included.
Holland has 0 service. I might go as far as saying that the Netherlands has the worst service in the whole world. The only thing you can do is file a lawsuit against a shop that fucked you over.
Companies like UPC and NUON are the worst. Funny thing is that they operate within the law. Millions get screwed over and the government looks the other way and only exclusively handles 'uninportant' small issues
They don't care. I have allways had the tendency to think that a government should care about it's people and try to get the best economy possible and provide quality living for their people. I don't know how I ever got this in my head

The only good thing about the netherlands is that when you DON'T have a job that you can still have money. Good unemployment benefits. Which is a GOOD thing, but that's just about the only possitive thing I can say about the Netherlands. That and that we support RGB SCART

Super Famicom best launch ever, even in the Netherlands, because back then you had import shops, now only online import shops and few even import. Nobody sees that business oppurtunity in the Netherlands

Sorry, I hate this place. I was born and raised here, so I don't have any prejudices.

It's a piece of consumer electronics, designed to play videogames. If you think any game machine is cool then you need to get some perspective. It's like people who argue if Link or Cloud is cooler... if you're above 14 and you're having this argument, you've already lost. I'm out of junior high, I thought I left arguments about what gaming machines are "cooler" back there (and at GameFAQs).
And find a word other than gay.
And find a word other than gay.
Only thing uncool about the Xbox for me, was that it caused every other gaming device I own to spend most of their time gathering dust. Yeah, and I hate Microsoft - so that hurts me inside.

The Thompson Drive, the lack of a decent light gun (yes, I've looked at the one's on Play-Asia, but they all have very mixed reviews), and the fact that Virtua Cop 3 and Xyanide may never see the light of day on the XBOX are all "uncool" in my book, but that's just a few things. And the light gun issue could be chalked up to "uncoolness" on Sega's part for not getting of their duffs and making their own XBOX light-gun.
