I've always found starting at a lower difficulty level helps a great deal. A lot of it's psychological, once you start progressing in a game you start to realise that you can complete it with only 1 cc.

The problem with lower difficults is that you may need to rework your routes when increasing the difficult. Personally, I dont believe its worth it.

it's not a problem becouse you rarely need to follow routes on lower difficulties.

Understand that bullet hell shooters are not necessarily any harder than traditional shooters. It's part of the gimmick of the sub-genre: to appear more difficult to dazzle onlookers.

If you really feel the need to get "a single-credit clear" under your belt to build some confidence, play Karous and abuse the shield.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

I want to thank you guys again for all the kind words.

Right now, I'm trying to get a 1CC on Touhou Perfect Cherry Blossom on Easy. Can get all the way up to the final stage with 4 or 5 lives, but in the 2 final bosses things are getting really messy and I'm choking hard.

I'm going to practice this stage a lot and see if I can get this 1CC soon enough.

Once I do, I'll definitely keep going for the harder difficulties, I really like this game.

Play Dodonpachi in MAME. You won't regret it.

I've played a bit, and even though the game is very good, I think is way beyond my level now. But I have plans to play this series in the future, maybe I'll look for a JP X360 to get it along with the other 300 shmups available there.

A really really hard 1cc like a 2-all of gunbird 2 or ketsui ura could easily take a newcomer hundreds or even over 1000 hours if they are unprepared and aren't quick learners. The same feat could be pulled off by an experienced shmupper in 10% of the time. Expect a lot of resistance and a slow learning process for these games. This shit takes time, but it can also be rewarding, so it's up to you how to go about it. My advice is to just do whatever you feel like, see what sticks, whether it feels like it's too hard or to easy, do it anyway if you like doing it.

Got my first 1CC!

Easy on PCB. I got all the way up to the final stage losing only 2 lives, but lost another 5 in the 2 final bosses :(

It's a 1CC but I confess it's a bit bitter, I know I could have done better than this.

Gonna post more details on the 1CC topic! Thanks for the help guys!! :D :D :D

Well, as long as I have fun as I'm having right now with PCB, I don't care that much about how long it is, as long is it is rewarding as you said (which it was for my 1CC on PCB).

Congratulations man! It's a pretty good feeling, isn't it?
Hope that you manage to find a game that you want to stick by in the long run!

Awesome job there! Youmu and Yuyuko are pretty evil, so don't feel too bad. This is just the beginning though! Good luck on the higher difficulties and future clears.

Most of average difficulty shmups take me roughly 1 month playing 3-4 days a week for 2-3 hours each session.

e.g R-Type and Donpachi at the time.

Another one!

Again, I got a couple of bad deaths, where I had at least one bomb but thought I was going to be able to dodge.

This time I really needed to try harder, since the spike in difficulty starting from stage 4 is harsh. Also, I was able to experiment with all the characters and different kind of shots, and I choose to focus on Reimu A since her shot tracks the enemy automatically, which leaves me more calm to focus on dodging (I love how OP Marisa B is, but the fact that I always have to follow the enemy through the screen was really killing me more than normal. Was able to get to stage six with her, nevertheless. As for Sakuya, I thought that she's too weak and even with 4 bombs is not worth the try).

Anyway, I'll try some runs on hard now and if they are too much for me, I'll try another game for a bit.

I think that's the way I'm going now.

Just gave a little try on Danmaku Unlimited 2 on easy and got to stage for without even getting close to dying...it was even boring because it felt, well, tooeasy.

I think I'm a "Normal" person now. I think I can manage to start on normal on the next games.

I don't think 1ccing every game on normal is necessary at all if you don't really want to. You can easily move up in difficulty earlier than that.

I think you need a certain kind of vision to 1cc bullet hell games. My vision gets far too distracted by movement not affecting my ship that I die on busier screens.

Therefore I don't believe OP's question has much merit. Its like saying that if you practice singing for 1000 hours you will definitely be the new George Michael or something.

The only shooter I 1CC'd was Gradius and only the first loop.

My vision, that good, I reached up to stage 5 in Espgaluda. I think I am just that good.
