Just makes no sense unless you're interested that kinda crap but then that's a much bigger problem. It doesn't bother me to play the game as Reco as I said I will still play a game filled with that stuff if the game is good. Same as piloting a Transgender fairy in espgaluda.

Same as after the Ibara boss getting the big ass crotch shot close up. It's stupid and adds nothing of value but the game is amazing so I just pretend it isn't there.

On a serious note it doesn't really bother me, as in I can look past lolis or little girl crap if the game is good, hence the Mushihimesama or Espgaluda series.

Reco is anything but loli, though. Not quite, at least.
The Espgaluda characters are special, so to speak, being both shota and loli at the same time. They cater to both "fanbases", I guess.

Me personally feels unfullfilled because they either put complete lolis/moes with their flat body and childish nature OR oversexualized ladies with curvy body and big breasts/asses. I would like to see more characters that fall in my beauty ideals, which are slim elegant ladies with small but not flat..details, and not younger than midteens.

As for MALES, it's even more complicated. They are either overpowered Rambos or some stylish gay-looking thin boys.

Now, about THEIR ROLE in these games. They can appear in opening/ending cutscenes, in ship/pilot choose menu etc. How much is too much? What about Saidaioujou where they SKYPing with you during gameplay? is that annoying?

I hate that shit in shmups, and 2hu is primarily to blame. The fanbase has turned it into the cancer of shmups, just like what KanColle is to anime right now. Outside of 2hu, when Dodonpachi started doing it in DOJ, it was fine because the element dolls didn't have that stupid loli design, but from DFK onwards they took it a bit overboard. Regular anime designs are fine, like in the Alltynex guidebook, Batsugun, Under Defeat, Air Gallet, Caladrius (minus the shame break art), etc. Characters like girls with overblown proportions and huge breasts (like the pilots of Strikers 1945) are fine if not taken seriously, but is still nothing more than distracting fanservice if they are constantly being shown in gameplay. Regarding the male characters, Cho Aniki is an example of going way too far, but since the entire series is basically an acid trip, it's clearly not meant to be taken seriously and it's fine. On the other end of the spectrum, I never really saw the pilots in Ketsui as gay pretty-boys like many people make them out to be. Games with a unique art style, like Batrider, are pretty awesome, since it's basically 80s comic book style that would make for an interesting movie. Regarding Ibara, I don't mind the bosses, since they aren't lolis and they have more of an, elegant, mature, sexy style to them. Personally, I prefer military characters and awesome aircraft in my shmups. It'll be interesting to see how Raiden V's characters turn out, hopefully none of that loli crap.

I don't really loathe the "cute little girls" thing, and actually like characters such as Cotton. The sight of some little kid, boy or girl, yanking an axe out of a yeti's hand and chucking it into his nards is fucking hilarious.
The saturation levels of those character types is too much nowadays, though. And yeah, DS1's cover art and some of DS2's endings make me wonder when Chris Hansen is gonna knock on my door. (And some of the fan art on Twinkle Star Sprite's Saturn omake disc )

There are several things wrong with your (and many other) post/s. For starters, you do not get it. If you actually "got" it, you would post your scores. Secondly, glossing over Touhou and calling it all garbage is the same as me saying every Dodonpachi game is shit. There are bad and good games for Touhou and just ignorantly thinking otherwise shows you have no idea what the games look like. Thirdly, it doesn't fucking matter if anyone here has a Touhou WR (not that you could get a WR worth a damn if most of you tried). ZUN is going to keep making the games regardless not to mention even if no one here plays the games, people in Japan will. Furthermore all Touhou does is have female characters. They're not sexualized in any way and at best they're arguably cute. (Albeit I personally think that ZUN's art is shit in a cute way)

Now, people here (not just in this thread but the whole forum) blame Touhou for the moefication of modern shmups but that's fucking dumb. It would have happened even if Touhou didn't exist. The trend to have more cute or sexual girls everywhere isn't something that happened only in shmups but it's basically in every media at this point. Anime in particular has taken that turn where 90% of new anime is basically just waifu-bait, just like new CAVE games. Touhou has had nothing to do with the turn things have taken. I will not say it's not part of it to some degree but it's not the reason why this shit exists. Cuteness is very greatly valued in Japan not only in girls but in mascot form as well. More and more it's getting established in Japanese culture. Idols, actors, seiyuu, anime/manga, video games; hell cuteness is even represented in their porn. No particular franchise is responsible for your shmups getting moefied. None of you can stop this because no one here is the targeted audience. The fact that you do not even know this much is just astonishing to me since you seem to want to discuss it.

In general I think this is a discussion worth having -- as long as we are civil about it. Please do not allow this thread to devolve into personal attacks and accusations of pedophilia.

Personally:

I don't mind it when I'm playing games on my own -- hell, some of the art and characters that have come out of this trend are awesome (dat Tomoyuki Kotani art for Mushihimesama and Ibara <3 ). And in general I don't mind most of these games in public. But there have been times where I have been uncomfortable showing friends or playing in public because of the loli/moe/etc content -- and I think that's really sad.

If I had to keep it to just one or two sentences, in a perfect world:

1) There should be options to disable the stuff - or at least tone it down - during gameplay, and ideally in menus, etc as well. I love Ibara, and I love it's art, but I don't always like the pantyshot cut-ins after boss battles :V

2) There should be more variety and uniqueness in character choice, instead of just different flavors of the same generic "waifu template." If you're going to give an STG characters, they should damn well be characters, not just cardboard cutouts with tits.

CAVE killed shmups. With their cheap looking, not much cell invested, cheap 2000s CGI anime style girls with as low as much possible NOT HAND DRAWN CGI style female chars that don't do anything to the f story. Touhou continued this.

Now U have f underage low quality anime CGI girls for shump characters everywhere. GO SUPPORT CAVE ON STEAM or Touhou or whatever to get more of that shit. F morons.

I hope next shmup that gets released got only 1 playable char that is 5 years old girl in her underwear.
