It's really weird that this game is getting a PSP port, considering the lack of dual analog sticks on the PSP. I hope they don't resort on PSP to the "fire through the center of the screen" targetting of the cellphone version of Xyanide.
I'm a little confused as to why it would get a PSP release before a confirmed PS2 release...marketingwise, wouldn't you sell more copies of the game with an established home console base of 100 million +? Theres only a fraction of PSP's out there compared to PS2's.

*scratches head*
I dunno either, all I know is that IGN has no mention of a PS2 port.

In any case, Playlogic must be getting sick of all the emails about the XBOX rev. they've recieved from me, because they've never answered my question as to whether or not the XBOX rev is coming to the States, and if so, when. Like I said earlier in this thread, they NEED to start updating their frickin' Xyanide website with some more info on this game, and it's various ports.

On the "Games" section of Playlogic's website: www.playlogicinternational.com , Xyanide is listed as an XBOX Live Game.

I don't know if this means for certain that XBOX owners will not be able to purchase a "hard" copy of this game, as well. At any rate, there is no mention of this game as having been cancellled, in any of it's formats, so that's definately good news! :D

Also, on their website, they list a phone# for their New York office. I will call them tomorrow, and find out what I can.-Dave

I think they just mean the game is supposed to have some Xbox Live features, e.g. online scoreboards. Not that the game itself will be downloadable via Xbox Live Arcade.

Good point, although I would still like to call them up tomorrow, and ask when this game is getting an XBOX release, because they obviously haven't cancelled it. I'll be polite, of course, but I will be sure to let them know that there are plenty of people interested in this game.

Now would be a great time to release it, IMO. People are really loving Geometry Wars on the 360, and, like that game, Xyanide is a traditional shooter that uses both analog sticks.

At any rate, I'll report back on what I found (or didn't find!) out.

The game is just a wee too large to be download option. My pre-release copy weighs in at 2.6 gigs. I'm pretty sure the xbox live is just for scoreboards. There's a mention that seems to indicate online play in the manual, but I could just be misreading it.

I don't think it could have the GW2 appeal because the action comes in waves instead of constant, and it's quite difficult. Even after you get the gameplay down, the latter levels are brutal even at normal difficulty. You have two different main shot types, with their own four special attacks, omni-directional shooting, and lock-on missiles all to worry about sometimes in the space of seconds, since you'll need to switch types to take out different enemies effectively. I really can't see the casual crowd going for it. It's just too complicated.

The soundtrack was released in Europe (which is excellent btw) so it would be odd if the game was never actually released, though MS rushing forward with the 360 certainly complicates matters. Maybe they're holding off to get backwards compatablity going.

Blatant plug of interview I had with the composer:

I played it for about 15 minutes on the Games Convention in germany last summer and think a bit better about it than qatmix ;)

Its no Ikaruga, no Zero Gunner and not even a Chaos Field, but it's still a shooter and I've had fun with it.

BG is completely in 3D with same-looking spaceships and a few bullets around your ship (I made it into the 5th stage, so I don't think that it'll get much more intensive than Gradius on the NES).

You can move your ship with the left stick and shoot in every direction (arcade-stick-directions) with the right stick. It doens't seem like the perfect control, but it's still acceptable.
Weapons are upgradable and just like in Trizeal you can use different weapons while picking up different power ups which change their colors (red is for purple lasers for example).

How I found it on the GC:
Well, it's a game called "Shoot em up" on the Xbox in the west, isn't this enough?
Well, no. My illusions about it are destroyed and nobody except players who where positively fascinated by the PS2-silpheed will be impressed by Xyanide.
Sorry guys. :(

Playlogic told me in one of the emails the sent me that they would try the game on the XBOX, see how well it did there, and then release it on the 360. But it's only listed as XBOX now, which I don't see as a problem. because every new XBOX game, AFIK, is compatible with the 360.

@qatmix-how's your DC homebrew shmup coming along? I'm pretty excited about it, and Drill as well! :D

You don't have to apologize for your opinions. Thanks for your news on the shooter; I will definately be ordering both it and Drill, once they are released! :D

At the bottom of the page, Playlogic makes it clear that they will be at this year's E3-let's hope we FINALLY get a US release date for the XBOX for this sucker!

Nothing too exciting, but this week Gamespot has posted 12 new screenshots from the E3 '06 build.

Thanks for the link, TF! :D

Also looks like Gamespot has the only 3 gameplay videos of Xyanide:

Thanks TF, that's fantastic news! :D :D

EDIT: Gamefaqs has the same release date listed:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/xbox/data/917912.html

Let's hope both sources are correct, as there is no release date for this anywhere else.

Well, the publisher lists the same release date:

http://www.southpeakgames.com/games/nagames.html

I don't know if it matters that Xyanide hasn't been rated yet, but it does seem strange, given that it's supposed to come out next month.

I wonder if I should hang on to my XBOX for this. I've been "culling" my video game collection, and I only have a few games left for the XBOX. I do tend to love Euro-Shmups.

If you have had an XBox for this long, why not wait another month? Even if you grab the game and blow through it in a couple of days at least you will have had the experience. I personally can't wait! We get Xyanide this summer, and (hopefully) Raiden III this fall!

Raiden III this Fall?? I knew it was coming over here, but I hadn't heard Fall, yet.

Yeah, Xyanide might be up my alley, I just don't own that much else for the XBOX. I wonder if they'll take out the nudity, though-that may be the reason why it's taking so long to get a rating. Otherwise, I would agree about at least having had the experience. And, as much as I love Euro-Shmups, I may end up keeping the XBOX primarily for that game!

I know how you feel.

On the one hand, I'm excited for some 3D games that are coming out, but not that many, and I've often thought about selling my XBOX and PS2 and games, and just going with retro sytems. But then, I still have an interest in the Wii, and I would like to write for a gaming mag. someday. There is Retro Gamer, but I don't see myself re-locating to the UK.

Very cool - I didn't see this thread. I just preordered my copy today. To me this game looks like ONE, but with a space ship. I think ONE is the best run and gun game there is...

Speaking games we suck at, ONE is another, for me. I've only gotten past the first scene, where you're running from the helicopter, once!

I think ONE is one of the most intense games ever. It starts hard, and gets brutal. I need to get this game again.

aventus:

Silpheed TLP's gameplay reminded me of something I'd play on the PC Engine, very simplified, yet workable and somewhat interesting. The enemies and bosses had an acceptable learning curve to them. Overall it was like a highly glossed-over PC Engine shooter set in a Raystorm vantage point and with a Radiant Silvergun pacing IMO. Not really a title to throw open the shutters and scream about, but definitley one you could spend an afternoon trying to complete.

Just another way to look at it I guess. Oh, yeah I remeber it getting pretty tough towards the end. And also very enjoyable after partaking in a bit of the spliff. It made those unbearably long "mission briefings" make a little more sense.

As for Xyanide - man, I wish I had an XBOX. No I really don't. It would probably see as much action as my Jag CD - which is broken and slowly rotting in my Dad's garage. I had an idea of picking up a copy and trying it out on my upstairs neighbor's unit, but they're moving out on the 1st, so that fleeting idea was dashed in a hurry...

Oh, well.

People, go to the official Xyanide forum following below link...scroll down and see what their moderator "Muldini" has to say.

http://www.playlogicgames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=70

Playlogic is a complete joke. Obviously, whatever listed on eb and gamestop is incorrect......

I am so dissappointed once again....well, that's has been going on for 3 years with this game.

I wouldn't go so far as to call them a complete joke-obviously that moderator will answer questions about pre-orders, and we will still get the game sooner or later.
