And SLG lines are inferior IMO, a single 50% setting with true black overlaying/hiding capability is better than always-gray even maxed out.
I think the reason whey they appear grey on some setups is that the input you're using applies some kind of auto gain function which tries to normaliize the decreased signal levels.

Mmh, well maybe but it does that with every source and target display I've tried.
