Until I see some actual interesting retail games, there's no way I'm buying into this 3BS.

I meant exclusively for the system this entire thread is about!

Re: New 3DS
*sigh*
Okay, let me spell it out for you:
This new version of the 3DS will feature games that will not work on a normal 3DS, which I already own and love. Unless there is something superbly interesting released for this new console, I'll stick to the one I already got.
Now, what does this mean? It means that I'm not saying there's nothing interesting for the original 3DS. I was already sorta talking about playing Smash Bros. in the other thread.
Frankly, I'm not surprised that I needed to elaborate on what should've been obvious...

Re: New 3DS
Considering googling "new 3ds games" is already a cromulent and common sentence fragment... yeah. Not the best name.
Re: New 3DS
The Lite didn't have more RAM, what purpose would that have served? The firmware on that model was basically the same as on the original DS. I also fail to see the relevance of your DS vs 3DS testing. The 3DS is quite different hardware-wise (lacks the ARM7 and probably the GPU as well), so certain parts of the hardware are likely emulated in software... differences aren't so surprising then.BPzeBanshee wrote:Not imagination. Pokemon White/Black is considerably more smooth in moving between routes/towns against the original model DS, which had some minor stutter. I tested against Lacunosa Town's right-most exit with my original model (not Lite) DS and my 3DS XL. Original specs to something like a DSi maybe (pretty sure the Lite model added more RAM anyway), but not an original DS.
Re: New 3DS
Pokemon White/Black is DSi enhanced. That is why it runs better on 3DS and DSi compared to older models (including the Lite, which has the same specs as the original DS).BPzeBanshee wrote: Not imagination. Hmm, didn't know that. I stand corrected then
Would have expected them to advertise that upfront on the packaging though, not just with a small note on the back. But maybe they knew the WPA capability wouldn't have been useful for too long

Re: New 3DS
While there might not be many New3DS exclusive games in the end, chances are many games from now on will run better or look better on the new system. Anyone who doesn't already have a 3DS should probably just wait for the new system. Monster Hunter 4G, for example, has higher resolution textures and shadows, and still manages to run more smoothly on the New3DS.
Re: New 3DS
I'm not sure why you think that.Wooph wrote:While there might not be many New3DS exclusive games in the end, chances are many games from now on will run better or look better on the new system.
Re: New 3DS
I thought it was the GBA that used the ARM7? 3DS still has the ARM9 that the DS uses. I know a select few GBA games were ambassador only games on 3DS. I heard the emulation may not be 100% on those, but I'm not sure if the so-called emulation issues were just the same porting issues that Yoshi's Island suffered when it was ported to GBA.
Re: New 3DS
DS uses an ARM7 for sound and GBA backwards compatibility, the ARM9 is for main processing and stuff.

Re: New 3DS
On lack of exclusives, I don't see why a developer would want to make a game New3DS exclusive unless absolutely necessary because there's simply more people with the old 3DS. On game performance, I'm just being hopeful. I've been following MH4G closely and it's the only game I know of so far that actually looks and runs better on the New3DS, despite not being exclusive to it.ZellSF wrote: I'm not sure why you think that.

Re: New 3DS
I did a bit more research, the Opera Browser DS app came with an expansion card of which the newer one could only fit on a DS Lite. I misremembered this thinking the Lite already had said RAM built in and figured that may have contributed to performance improvements, so my bad there. Woops. Thanks for solving that conundrum though!BrianC wrote:Pokemon White/Black is DSi enhanced. Re: New 3DS
Like I said before, the only difference I saw between a DS Lite and a DSi XL was less screen tearing. There was an equal amount of slowdown. The reduced tearing might just be because of the DSi XL's superior screens.

Then he says to the white dude "Watch out for that black dude, he wants a piece of your cookie!"

Re: New 3DS
I'll bet my left toe it's not gonna.Monster Hunter 5 will be a New 3DS exclusive.
Really unlikely it's the screen, even on a poop LCD. Tearing should be a compromise chosen to reduce slowdown and stutter when the hardware is unable to draw a scene at the same rate a screen refreshes.Mischief Maker wrote:The reduced tearing might just be because of the DSi XL's superior screens.
Re: New 3DS
It's possible he's confusing tearing with motion blur. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard that.

Re: New 3DS
Tried out the New 3DS yesterday, it's suuuuuuper nice. I don't have a 3DS yet, and I would definitely wait for this one.
Comparing to a DSi XL, it's very comfortable to hold, you don't even really 'feel' it in your hands, and the finish is glossy and "grippy" at the same time. The device feels really solid, the hinge is very beefy, and the controls feel excellent.
Screens are very nice, the 3D effect is very good, I didn't notice any eye fatigue at all while I was playing it.
The C-stick is very easy to use, I even found that because your right thumb more or less falls over the ABXY buttons, that you can actually press them while using the C-stick at the same time, but more likely than not you'll be using the four shoulder buttons instead.

Nope, it's tearing. The difference is quite striking in Sonic Rush.ZellSF wrote:It's possible he's confusing tearing with motion blur. Wouldn't be the first time I've heard that.
Same thing in Ketsui: Death Label. There's noticeable sprite flickering on the DS Lite while the DSi XL's sprites are solid.

Re: New 3DS
"Sprite flickering"? Sounds to me like the interlacing-style effect that could be seen on certain portable LCD devices. Basically the exact effect that PSP-3000 owners were complaining about.

How are you able to test it? Is it in stores now?
Re: New 3DS
It is out in Japan for over a week now.

A fellow forum member imported one from Japan. It won't be released in North America until next year sadly, but at least there will be more titles by that time.SuperGrafx wrote:Wait, when is this thing coming out?

Solatorobo also has a completely smooth framerate on DSi, while it stutters on DS/Lite during busy scenes.BrianC wrote:Pokemon White/Black is DSi enhanced. That is why it runs better on 3DS and DSi compared to older models (including the Lite, which has the same specs as the original DS).

With Smash Bros & Amiibo making their way to the states in time for the holiday season I'm surprised they didn't try and get it here sooner.shmuppyLove wrote:A fellow forum member imported one from Japan.
