And Wii games on Wii U do not look too good on this TV!
Jagged edges and a 'soft' or blurry picture. Gonna have to search the forums for how to improve this, if possible.

Wow, which one ? The 50W700B ?Windfish wrote:Just bought the W700B! Thanks for all the help!
I don't think this is the TV's fault, the W series are very good at displaying a faithful image, you may see weaknesses coming from the system/console you didn't notice before. Even more so if the screen is big.Windfish wrote:And Wii games on Wii U do not look too good on this TV!Jagged edges and a 'soft' or blurry picture. Which connection cable are you using ? HDMI or Component ? Outputing 1080p ? Did you set the TV on 'Game' scene 'original' as well ?
These are the basic conditions to see the most 'bare' picture, then you can fine-tune to your liking from there.
Also note the TV's got a power saving mode that will sometimes make the picture a bit too dim, but you can disable it.
Anyway I think Wii games don't look good on the WiiU no matter what.

Yup, bought the 50W700B.
I am using HDMI cables and set the resolution to 1080p. I also adjusted to the TV's settings to the proper ones.
I am wondering if the TV's own upscaler is better than the Wii U's upscaling of Wii games. In which case, it would be best to play Wii games on an actual Wii.

The W's upscaling is pretty good but I don't know if it will do any better, the Wii and Wii games are no Dreamcast...
You can try to set the Wii U to output 720p or 480p, then play with the TV's sharpness slider.

I just did a side-by-side comparison between Brawl on Wii U and Brawl on Wii. I have two copies of the game, so I ran them at the same time and compared how they looked. Brawl on Wii U looked slightly better. Is there a way to change the size of the picture on these sets? I mean, other than the presets of Zoom, Wide Zoom, etc.?Xyga wrote:The W's upscaling is pretty good but I don't know if it will do any better, the Wii and Wii games are no Dreamcast...

I am also wondering how the Framemeister might make a difference. Perhaps its upscaling abilities are better than either the Wii U's or this new set. I would test it myself, but mine has not come in yet.

You don't have seperate vertical or horizontal controls, but you can set the overscan in three levels, which is ideal to bring those 224p sources (SNES, MD) to fullscreen.
You can try to adjust the detail and edge enhancement on the Wii's or WiiU's signal. That's as good as it gets. I can't think of any external processor that handles the Wii's signal considerably better.

Re: HDTV + XRGB-mini <- What TV works best?
Thanks for the input, Fudoh and Xyga. I have a lot of Wii games, more than I do for any other system (I love the platforming genre). That is why it is a shame that they do not look very good on the set - of course, it's not the set's fault! Wii just never put out that good of a signal, I guess. I absolutely cannot buy another set just for Wii, but man is it tempting. Maybe the Framemeister's picture adjustment options can help me shrink the picture?

unless it's a CRT, I doubt you'd find something better looking.I absolutely cannot buy another set just for Wii, but man is it tempting.
you can, yes. You can use 720p output with 480p window inside (x1 smart mode). Or you can use x2 to get a 960p window on a 1080p output.Maybe the Framemeister's picture adjustment options can help me shrink the picture?

Agreed.Fudoh wrote:unless it's a CRT, I doubt you'd find something better looking.
That's great! This should help picture quality on my set, right? I would think so. You can kind of shrink the picture when you go into twin-view (which displays two different pictures side-by-side), and the smaller picture looks *much* better than it does when it's stretched to the screen's size.you can, yes.
