RIP Jack "Eraserhead" Nance. Man he was good.

And i've said it before, but if you like Duchovny's turn as Denise, it is essential to watch at least the first couple of X-Files episodes after completing Twin Peaks. It almost feels like some strange, spin-off show.

Cool, never liked X-Files myself, but I haven't watched the very first episodes either (and we all know how madly popular TV shows can unfold 'till the advertisement money run the heck out.)
The one where villain's second name was "Tooms" seemed as serious to me as the flick where it was "Prosatanos". Hellbound was the title, Chuck Norris included.

I've gained even more appreciation for Twin Peaks after watching True Detective which was hyped by some as "best murder mystery TV series ever". What an inconsistent and unsatisfying mess. *SMH*

Always thought of Twin Peaks as a phony detective show. Cracker (Jimmy McGovern-written episodes) was where I'd found the genre substantially represented, in hindsight.
Now, more of the Twin Peaks' kin would be the Soil manga (much recommended). That's more like it (apparently NSFW).

Hope you guys enjoy it. I'm about to pack up my PS3 and ship it on it's first voyage to The New World. Problem is I don't know it's final destination yet... somewhere between about a 4000 mile gap.

So I finally got this box and have to say it is INCREDIBLY nice. I don't much care for this video, but if box art matters to you, this should give you a sense of what you're getting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0g-Bo7XTguU

Every disc has special features and there is an entire disc of special features. (Edit: Not incredibly impressed by the special features, though the last disc has substantial interviews with the actors.)

One thing that might interest a few people...this set includes both versions of the pilot, so if you remember the absolutely bizarre ending to the original pilot ('make a wish!'), that's been restored finally.

I hope this set gets a little bit cheaper over the next year instead of OOP RARE $99,999,999EATADICKAMAZON, but it does seem like a definitive set (I say that having passed on the gold box.)

How many people clicked this thread and thought it was about some real-life mystery (like the Roanoke Colony or the Mary Celeste)?

But on-topic... I might have to look at this, as I've never seen Twin Peaks in any form (except for I once caught half of Fire Walk With Me on TV). I might buy the older DVD set when it comes down in price tho if I want to see it.

I love the show but it clearly will not appeal to everyone.

If you have only seen a small number of episodes out of sequence you will have no idea whatsoever what is going on and will likely think it is crap.
It is one of those shows you need to marathon start to finish to appreciate. Kind of like Arrested Development.

Hopefully this comes out in my region, I would consider getting it despite owning the series on DVD.

Watched FWWM tonight. The audio is really dynamic so you might want to listen on headphones or plan on blasting is. I suspect the audio on the DVD was compressed, but it makes sense because I recall talk about Lynch's concern with the audio when FWWM hit the theatres and he was basically saying to crank it as loud as possible.

I did enjoy seeing the film again. In a lot of ways it is much more like Lost Highway or Wild at Heart than twin peaks, presenting a much darker and more intense version of the story than ever could have been managed on TV. What I find interesting is that if FWWM had been successful, Lynch was prepared to continue the plotline of the TV series through additional movies. We can imagine in some alternate reality a series of rated R Twin Peaks movies that would make up season 3, all probably with the same grittiness and intensity of the FWWM movie. Hmmm, maybe its best loose ends were left untied.

Still haven't seen Missing Pieces.

Figure I'd report out: Saw Missing Pieces tonight. Hopefully your expectations weren't too high. If you are at all a fan of the series you'd probably heard somewhere about a massive amount of footage made for FWWM. I'd heard anywhere between 3 to 5 extra hours. I wonder if that rumor started as 'the movie would have been 3 hours with extra footage'. Who knows. Regardless, there's little truth to years worth of rumors.

A huge number of the scenes are merely expanded cuts of existing scenes in FWWM, and this is part of the reason they can't, and shouldn't be integrated into the movie. There are whole new scenes that don't really add anything but feature other characters from the show. I can see why these were trimmed--FWWM was becoming very different than the series in tone and character, and watching some of the normal comic relief of twin peaks wander around might sound like a good idea on paper, but doesn't really work. A few scenes have a nice direction to them but just seem awkward, for instance where Donna's mom makes the two girls muffins. As 'Missing Pieces' moves on though, more and more of the sequences start feeling like they could have worked well in the film, but in totality I don't know if these would add up to more than about 10 or 15 minutes. I'll say more in a spoiler section below, but I just want to reiterate that while I am glad I finally got to see this footage, I probably won't watch it again and I am not convinced it really answers any questions.

Moving backwards, the last segment happens after the end of season 2. The final scene with Dale and the mirror is repeated, but slightly different. We see that Annie is alive, but her mind is gone. Annie has the ring, but a nurse steals it...a possible lead in to FWWM2. The only reason I can see these scenes weren't included was because it would have to come after the Laura/angel scene and I don't think that really works for the flow of the film.

There's a really important scene where Donna sees that Laura is taking cocaine. I have always inferred from the film that Donna was lying through her teeth in season 1 when she doesn't share anything with the cops and tries to solve the mystery herself, but I'm sure its just bad writing and inconsistency. Or Lynch's revisionism. There's a really terrifying scene where Leeland/Bob is staring down Laura in the dark and it isn't clear whether he sees her or not (its the night he kills her.) There's actually a rather effective scene between Norma and Ed...just them in a car at night panning through radio stations. Their dialogue is meaningless, but captures their whole shitty situation nicely.

I'm betting by next year it is down to $60 or so. I probably should have waited and bought the Herzog box instead.

Forget not that the whole series is on Netflix. Rewatching it now. Debating who my personal (non-Cooper) favorite is. Bobby, Audrey, Briggs and Nadine are all in the running.

... Who am I kidding. It's Audrey. Them shoes.
