Re: Shumps outdoors thread: summer-summer.
Probably best to filter everything. The one time I had glacial water, I didn't and it seemed fine, but that was also at 13,000 ft, so IDK. Might make a difference. Certainly wouldn't hurt to filter, anyway.
But anyway, I went on a camping trip, just overnight, a few days ago. It was on an island in the Mississippi river. Here's some pics for you guys!

Untamed land is nowhere near my area (anthropogenic impact harks back to many a thousand year ago), but even my polluted village (traffic-jammed like hell) is a lot friendlier if you just walk around. Some places that are all within two hours on foot range (I'm a fast walker, but it's not like you can't use a bicycle):

Those are quite pretty. It looks like winter (based on the trees), are you in the southern hemisphere, or are the pictures a bit older? It's always good when you can get away form pollution, etc. by taking a nice long walk, or bike ride.

Here are some impressions from a 13 km hiking trip i did with some friends yesterday. Took us 5 hours and the sights and surroundings were breathtaking. This place is only half an hour car drive away from my home:

And no that is not me in the second last picture.

The latter. Never tried to take summer-themed photos in particular, so the seasons depicted are quite random (selected on the basis of prettiness indeed).LordHypnos wrote:are you in the southern hemisphere, or are the pictures a bit older?
That being said, summer in the city is a tad too much for me at the moment (to be precise, sobriety right here and now - four days and counting - gets on my nerves). Luckily Przystanek Woodstock is just around the corner. Never been there, despite hearing only good things from everybody who was.
What makes it special among all European summer open-air rock festivals is that it's ticket-free. That also makes it the biggest one. It's a place where "chavs", "yobs", "white trash" meet more "contesting" youth. Villige folks meet urban ones (still quite a distinction around here, culturally). Educated meet barely literate and so on. Substantially leftist, come to think of it.

Alright. Yeah, winter photos can definately be some of the nicest. That music festival sounds pretty cool.Obiwanshinobi wrote: The latter. Never tried to take summer-themed photos in particular, so the seasons depicted are quite random (selected on the basis of prettiness indeed).

Could be taken anywhere, (almost) any season, but was in said Lusatia, last June. A sundog.

Not very spectacular, but having taken better photos of a pair of these at the last year's end (working for archeologists back then),

I at least knew what I saw.
The last train to Kostrzyn (near the German border) was jam-packed, so I'm gonna take another one, early in the morning. Some drunk videogaming session might occur tonight.

Great photos - though I wouldn't put them in the "beauty muse" category myself. This is why I like being able to see colors
The glacial water thing - isn't 13KM high enough that most smog plumes won't reach that far? CHEMTRAILZ and all dat nonsense. Best filter for water? 10 feet of dirt (probably not even that much is needed really).

Back from Przystanek Woodstock, I owe ya'll some omiage. Not all photos are taken outdoors, but I wasn't in a mood for taking many to boot and had damaged a borrowed camera at some point. Uploaded in the order of taking.

Thanks for posting those pics, Obiwan. Looks like a pretty fun time. That train ride looked a bit cozy though, haha.
@Ed Oscuro: Yeah, probably. I mean it looked pretty dang clean, and looked like it was basically right next to the glacier. Also I didn't get sick, so that's a sign

Took a little trip to the south coast and got a few snaps. Also found this great statue by Damien Hirst.

Sorry I don't have a smartphone, I ditched it last summer after having one for three years.
If I did have one I would be posting pics of the jungle gym for adults at the city park near me. It is where I work out in the summer:)
Going to Central Park today for a picnic. Should be fun.

Yea. The pic from the back of the bike with the sun glare... Man I stopped for 5 mins and I got raped by midgies, were so bad that evening. This region is probably the worst in the world for them.

Re: Shumps outdoors thread: summer-summer.
Finally have some new stuff to add here. Me and some friends took a trip out to Wallace Falls State Park in Gold Bar WA (roughly an hour outside of Seattle) and did the hike to the lower falls. The hike is about 1.8 miles in each direction with a vertical elevation gain of about 540 feet (the middle falls is about another .3 miles and another 330 vertical feet, and the upper falls is another 2/3 of a mile beyond that and another 470 feet.) Even the lower falls are a pretty decent hike to get to though. I decided to bring my good camera (a Canon Powershot S120, one of the nicest pocket-friendly cameras I've found) along for the hike.

To get to the main trail from the trailhead requires a short walk along a path underneath some powerlines, with this view just before you get there.

The trail starts by following the river (with a small waterfall right near the beginning) but this doesn't last long.

Eventually you start going up and into the woods.

Eventually you reach another waterfall along the way, but you've still got about half a mile to go from here.

As you keep going up, eventually you start getting glimpses of the view across the valley.

And not far from there you finally reach the falls.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday, all things considered. I think the hike back was a little tougher than the hike up (the trail is a bit uneven, which is less of an issue on the way up than it is on the way down) and I'll probably have to go back and do at least the Middle Falls another time. Heading up to Alaska on a cruise in a couple of weeks, should have more to post from there.

One of my favorite outdoors memories was taking a hike with my great grandfather in Washington. Can't remember where it was, but the forests are pretty magical.
Looking forward to AK cruise pics. ;]

I shouldn't be surprised, but... man, do you have short growing season up north. Here I am still hoping to play some Boktai in the park or garden.
