Here's a US version of Fire Shark.

Roms 9, 10, 11, & 12 are used for changing the region and those are the ones with the orange stickers. I just burned new eproms to be able to play the JP 1-player version which is totally insane and totally awesome. I wouldn't say it's better than Ketsui because I really like Ketsui but it's not far behind. I did a quick look at the sold listings on ebay and there have been two recently that ended at $430 and $503, both appear to be US Fire Shark versions. They both had original labels on the eproms if that means anything to the value.

same!x3 is harder and is 1player only

fire shark is 2 player but easier

both have awesome music though :D
That's the truth. Regardless what region you end up getting it's worth it to burn roms for the other version to experience both. The JP version is insane!

I honestly think it's a pretty bad game:

1) Get red powerups
2) Kill enemies
3) Die? Ok give up here.

I like the MD version quite a bit (obviously quite a few differences). Red powerup is useful for lots of things - but not everything. I agree that this game does not prod you to switch up powerups quite as much as many other Toaplan games - but there still are lots of reasons to switch powerups. Mainly, different weapons are actually more useful in some situations (blue shot does great damage point-blank, just like Raiden) and timing your item pickups right provides a sort of chaining meta-game...for points, even! Somebody who just dodges all the powerups and doesn't collect any is losing out on huge scoring opportunities.

I find the blue weapon to be the best. When you're fully powered up, the amount of firepower that you have is way over the top. The spread shot practically covers the entire screen, and the game is still hard as hell. The music is really great too. It can be frustrating because it's so difficult, but I wouldn't consider it a bad game.

This game makes me feel like a fuckin' man. Brings out the true masochist. Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat humming the tune from the first level.

Indeed, I can't think of much that's more manly than piloting a bi-plane with flame throwers attached.

340€ shipped.
This is my board and no I didn't ask 340 euro for it, you offered it I sent you pics on the 4th dec asking you to put them on here to ask about it, and it's been on hold for you since with various payment dates being mentioned but never met.
I did send a mod a pic of the board just the other day with some others to ask about it but looking back seems the message I thought I'd included hadn't gone with the pics.
Why would anyone convert to fireshark if it was a same same same is my main query.
Just glad I could hold this for 2 months for you just in case you wanted it, cheers

Back in the day it was cheaper to import than buy from licensed distributors (some things never change!) and they'd swap the region ROMs to get rid of the 'JAPAN ONLY' etc copyright. These were arcade operators, they don't give a shit what the game differences are, they want to appear to be operating legally.

Attaching significant value to specific region versions of games is a new thing.

:/

Research first, payment after...this is just another reason for what I said earlier, know the items you're collecting before putting down the cash (or making other people wait for you to get educated).

Yeah, what system11 says here is right, it was probably done back in the day and the "original" ROMz are long gone. Personally if the price is right, I wouldn't care very much, but I'm not a super collector genius either. It would be nice to have "all original" ROMs and not to pay a premium, but it's just missing 4 bargain basement components of a type identical to thousands or millions of others out there, and four stickers.
