stupid question - i fundamentally agree that Brazil is suffering at the hands of poor leadership but i wonder whether a boycot of the WC would help?

Given that it -should- increase revenues etc - surely a failed WC would plunge Brazil into even further debt?

(there's also a rant due in here about how FIFA are a steaming sack of crap - UEFA a close second)

Whether the protests are "worthwhile" or not I did get a laugh out of this guy.

I've been waiting for this thread to bump. The WC is already good for Brazil, if it helped precipitate this. I'm also impressed with some of the recent gov statements praising the value and legitimacy of public protest. Erdogan in Turkey, on the other hand has really, really been letting me down.

Considering how these things work, I honestly wouldn't doubt it. Shame, I was hoping the CIA was done absolutely wrecking South America.

It's not fascism they're after, a change in the government might suffice to retain backyard control.

A government that may change again in the next election?

May I ask, has today' government done something that may have angered any lobby in your country?

It's good to see soccer returning to its roots. Beheadings are where it all began; massive games between towns using a freshly decapitated human head as a ball. Thank you England.

Indeed, and glad to see the sport being acknowledged as ours. :D

As for the Brazil world cup, I literally can't wait. Not because of all the doom hyperbole, but because I live for the tournament. Be 2014 already and get it underway!

"Boooooof - Eat My Goal!" will live forever. The Day Today / Brass Eye - the two greatest shows ever to grace TV.

(Plus we got the Collapsed Lung track Eat My Goal out of it - the original on Jackpot Goalie being vastly superior to the Cola campaign one - great band, best "Flip Hop" band around back in the early 90s)
