I have never been able to track down actual footage of TYPE A-S only screenshots searched around on chinese, korean and japanese sources but not luck there. Looked through every DDP video on NICO it's all TYPE A-L,B-L,C-S and C-L.
I'm always having on and off moods with A-S, it truly is love-hate with that thing. Some days I want to quit and others I don't.
Thats what I kinda feel with this whole game there are some good moments but alot of frustrating ones aswell. Is there any particular reason you dislike A-L? I only played C-L because I can't handle the mobility of A-L but neither the slow C-S.
I don't really dislike A-L, I've simply been using A-S as a challenge and to be a hipster in my never ending quest to do weird crap no one else will do. I actually used A-L exclusively for years before getting tired of it.
A-S and B-S just don't get as much love simply because they aren't C-S. C-S sacrifices laser damage and speed for a shot that is more significantly improved when comparing laser versions of ships. Another drawback of shot types is that all 3 of the ships will actually slow down to the same speed while lasering, which means it cripples A and B in this regard more than C. After that B-S is slightly superior overall to A-S, with a minimally stronger shot and a minimally weaker laser. Even though C-S has the weakest laser in the game, since several bosses can be exploited(esp stage 4 and 5) the wider shot helps a lot more on stage portions than a slightly stronger laser does against bosses.
A-S in general doesn't make much sense since the shot WRECKS stuff and sometimes it's just too much even with a weak tap. At the same time being careful with the shot and timings, the laser is delayed and cripples the speed of the focused shot ship. On paper it's something that might not seem TOO ridiculous, but in practice it's like relearning the game if you're already used to something else. A-S is GREAT for survival and a lot of fun, but actually getting full stage chains is another kind of hell.
