Found these pristine condition records and vintage tin at an estate sale today (on a friday), near my house.
The Marrs - Pump up the volume was a thrift shop buy.
Paid $10.00 for all. :)

NICE records there. Good selection. Big fan of M|A|R|R|S' "Pump up the volume" here. Bet you could get a pretty penny for some of the other stuff.

August 2nd 2014 finds
So i went into this weekend thinking there wasnt gonna be many sales out, since it is long weekend here in Canada (civic holiday)
I did manage to score a few things though (1 massive boombox) score.

1. Vinyl records - paid $2 each, (sealed Europe KP)
2. SONY c-90 cassettes - $0.25 cents each
3. Vintage tins and weedwacker twine - $3.00
4. JVC M-70 Boombox Ghettoblaster - $15.00 (worth $400-$500)
Cassette and radio work perfect. Few nics and scratches but nothing major.

Also got a 1992 consumers distributing catalog for free, worth $50 minimum. Im going to return next week because its too jammed in the back. Hes got all kinds of vintage automotive stuff!!

Went to as estate sale today... prices were very high (near retail) on most things ! I did manage to find a couple toy cars for 25 cents each - Corgi Oldsmobile Toronado, 1974 Matchbox Laing Crane.
Also picked up a box of free records, nothing special though.

Nice finds! I used to pick up things left and right (still do when deals are too good to pass up), but the problem is that that crap takes up quite a huge chunk of space. How do you organize all that? I have a few "collections" and I find it hard for it not too become too... cumbersome. Just to give you an idea, I collect...

Lego Star Wars sets
Video games / consoles
DVDs/Blu-rays
Fantasy gamebooks in French, like the Fighting Fantasy series (for pure nostalgia purposes... these are getting very scarce and somewhat collectible, as many strange individuals like me collect them, it seems)
Vintage Star Wars figures
Vintage Transformers figures
Board games

I have trouble organizing/displaying my stuff, most is just stored in cupboards or on high shelves, which kind of sucks. I have a few pieces scattered around, but I lack a way to properly store/display the stuff. The blu-rays/DVDs are a problem, to be honest. How do you arrange your collectibles? I do live in a house, so you'd think one would have enough space, but I have a big family which means lots of temporary items kids use. I'm specifically asking collectors because I need to figure out a way to make it work as it is, if I want to convince the wife we have more than enough space to have a cab somewhere.

Got some 70's & 80's era beer steins to add to the collection. Always on the lookout for these, especially want the Corona animal themed ones. There's a banjo playing armadillo out there with my name on it, just have to find it.

Don’t get me wrong, a lot of this stuff is great.. but why do you collect the old cans of oil and audio cassettes?

Search ebay and see why, some are worth alot, plus I like the vintage graphics and looks of them.
Cassettes, well, to record vinyl records onto cassette to listen to analog sound in the car and at home and in boomboxes.

Who knew some vintage oil cans could be worth this much? Quite interesting!

Found these today, paid 10$ for the lot. Not sure it's a good deal, but it was for a good cause, kidney failure or something. Also, my kids will love playing with the figures. They're all from 1988-1990.

GI Joe action figures had the same size and general design, so it might be from that range or an offshoot.

Nah man, G.I. Joes aren't built that way and are smaller than He-Man and Ninja Turtles. G.I. Joes were 3 3/4" and never had arms like that.

Anyhow, that's a fucked up Slush Head from The New Adventures of He-Man.

Thanks for clearing that up! There were a lot of He-Man figures there... BUt they're not really my thing.

I think I got lucky today, after a bit of bad luck. It's not the deal of the century or anything, but it makes me feel quite happy.

I go to a place where they sell used stuff people give, a bit like Salvation Army, only smaller and something more local.
I woke up this morning with the idea of finding a decent CRT TV, and obviously the dream was to find a random PVM... but I knew that was highly unlikely. Never seen one around these parts.

Anyways, I go there with my boy, and I spot this small 20" flat Toshiba TV, a decent size for my basement; would be perfect next to my current gaming cabinet. I look at it a bit, then my son starts to cross his legs in a not-very-subtle way and do "the dance"; he needed to pee. I go there, like 4 feet away from the TV, and of course someone snatches the thing while my back is turned. It was 10$. Boo. All the other TVs there are utter shit. Pretty disappointed...

Come back home, my son feels bad because he knows that I would have gotten the "little TV" had he not gone to the loo, but I tell him not to worry. I hit the equivalent of craigslist, and start looking for a CRT locally. Ever since I've sold my Trinitron for 200$, I've been missing it, so I instinctively look for one of these. There are only 2 or 3 Sony TVs available, and some people ask as much as 100$ for theirs, which I find outrageous. I spot one that had no price, so I try my luck and give a ring to the guy. From the picture and description, I know it's a 27" WEGA Trinitron but little else. Still available he tells me, it's free, they need to clear it. They tried to give it to a charity but they wouldn't come and pick it up. So anyways, I call my g/f who had gone shopping and I tell her to pick up the TV on her way back. I tell her: "Don't worry about the size too much, it's only like 27"". It was literally 10 minutes away from my place, so I thought she'd manage.

Turns out it's a 4:3 HD CRT, and it's fucking heavy. The old man who had the TV helped her getting it into the van and almost died, or so she said. When she got home, my gf gave me "the looks". Thing is, I had never mentioned wanting to get a CRT... it had just occurred to me this morning. The house is pretty packed, but I found a place downstairs. We argued a little bit, she says the basement will look like shit, I say people will love the vintage touch, she sees I'm super happy so lets go for now. I know she'll retaliate eventually, but the ultimate threat stands: it's either that or a cab! I have to try and find a matching TV stand, which I'll do tomorrow. I turned it on, tried my Turbo which looked like crap on my LCD through the antenna (what a surprise), and it looks fabulous. I really feel like the father in "A Christmas Story", looking at the leg/lamp, in awe. Hopefully, I'll win my own battle of the Lamp! Here's the thing:

Image

Lots of inputs on this, 5 composite, 3 s-video, 2x component, 1x HDMI. To be honest I'd rather have had a non-HD CRT, but I won't look a gift horse in the mouth. Plus, the picture quality is amazing. Long rant, sorry about that, but I'm a happy camper! The pic is a bit misleading and doesn't show how bulky the thing is!

^ Congrats, nice set and nice story! I actually think the 90s toy set for $10 is probably a great deal too, those things are fairly valuable.

The records are nice, but I think the magazine w/ the Sony CRTs on display is the best thing yet. Pure retro design.

Not to be spammy, but I have to share what I found today to follow up on my last post.

Now that I have scored the CRT, I research online for a used stand so I can win another round in the battle of the TV. I admit that it looks a bit shabby on the floor, in the corner of my basement. A nice stand would make it sexier and irresistible. Who wouldn't succumb to its perfect 90's lines? At that point, I'd be happy for it to be anything as long as it can withstand the weight, which I hear can be challenging. Usual stands for CRTs aren't made to hold the added weight of the HDCRTs, or so it seems. I read stories of stands crumbling under the weight. It had to be sturdy.

I find a serial for the ideal stand, the one that match the Thing perfectly. I hit the local ads, find a guy that's working in the moving business and the ad says kept a few random stands stored somewhere. I call him, he says he's got 5-6 different stands, he works for a moving company and they used to ship Sony TVs in the region. For some reason he kept a few Sony brand stands when they stopped making them, hope to do God knows what with them. He says the stands are 10$ each, which we both agree is a bit ridiculous. We meet, it's roughly a 30 minute drive but I have little to do so what the hell. The address he gave me leads to a business, I get in, ask for the guy, they call him, he shows, tells me to follow him to a truck, an kind of 18-wheeler with some storage in the back. We hop in, he shows me the stuff, explains the gear is worthless to him, he just wants to give the stands a last chance before he puts them in the garbage. Sure enough, among the 6, the exact stand I need is there, flawless. It's new, stickers still on, screws and manuals shrinkwrapped. Of all the furniture I could possibly find there, there was the perfect podium for the exact model, and exact size I had picked up the day before 50 kms away.

Really, what are the odds?

A pic of a TG16 game, through RF of all inputs. I need to locate a TurboBooster, but man the picture quality is exellent even through the antenna.
