Just follow the links - or you can simply get a UMSA - but you are then left with the issue of an SCART -> RCA(4) cable which the other topic was (kind of) about (and still no solution for 240p).
Of course the simple solution it to simply switch to your standard composite (or S-video) DC AV cable for the odd non-VGA-compatible game.
I'll try to navigate those links, but again it's all unfamiliar to me. Thanks for the info though, now if I could actually know what most of this means :S haha
Luckily there are not many Dreamcast titles that I am interested in yet that need the 15khz compatibility. If it comes to a point where I need that, I will try the links you sent again, or buy an s-video cable for my Dreamcast.
Hi I recently got a VP30, and I have the newer silver Dreamcast VGA Box. I bought a VGA to BNC RGBHV cable from monoprice. However, I cannot get a picture on the RGBHV connection! I'm really getting angry now. The VP30 is supposed to accept 31Khz on the RGBHV inputs. I thought maybe I had the V and H cables backwards but that didn't help. I confirmed that my VGA box is working properly on another TV, so it ain't that. Confirmed that Analog passthrough is off. I even tried my PC's SVGA output at 1080i and get nothing. I also confirmed that the VGA-BNC cable works because I outputted composite dreamcast to the other TV's VGA port via that connector. So basically I cannot get the VP30 to accept anything via RGBHV. What gives?
I tried everything you wrote and more. I don't need the PC to work, just the Dreamcast, and it won't even see the DC. Oddly it won't play the audio stream either (analog stereo L/R) while input is RGBHV, so I wonder if something is broken? Previous owner never used those ports. Really don't want to use them up, but will the component/RGBS inputs work with the DC? I suppose another test would be to input VGA on RGBHV and output it RGBHV as well, perhaps its only going to work on passthrough? Requires me buying another VGA/BNC cable though. I simply cannot win with this stuff. In hindsight I just should have bought a new Samsung TV where it takes 240p via component.
Well I don't want to spend more money on a transcoder, and certainly would rather not be stuck with 480i for Dreamcast. I've read some that the VP30 has issues picking up certain resolutions, mainly from PC's. But the Dreamcast is 480p and that is definitely supported. Given that others like yourself have it working without trouble, I assume that something is broken on this box. I've read cases where certain inputs fail on the DVDO's over time, I'm not totally sold on their reliability. I can't convert straight from VGA to HDMI and input to the VP30 can I?
Damn, well I may have to get rid of this VP30 then. I read your page, and you note that the VP 50 (not pro) has 240p problems. Were those fixed with firmware? You wrote "for the better." thanx
It's either the VP30 or a very, very out-of-spec VGA box. But given that you can't get a PC working either (and assuming you didn't do anything awfully wrong), it's likely the VP30 which is to blame.
I had never any problems getting a DC runnig on a DVDO, doesn't matter if VP30, 50, 50Pro or Edge.
It's odd, the auto detect is working, because the VP switches to RGBHV with the VGA connected, and my old laptop flips to the low res. mode, but I get nothing. When I force the laptop into 640/480 mode, the light on the VP30 is solid green for a while. Firmware btw is 1.14 on this, hope that isn't the problem.
