DOS games, how do you play them ?
Re: DOS games, how do you play them ?
The only advantage are better 3D shutter tech and possibly even better response times. This said, I'm not a fan of ultralow response rates.

Uh, better refresh rates? There's a difference between 60 image updates per second, and 144 image updates per second beyond pixel response times.Fudoh wrote:The only advantage are better 3D shutter tech and possibly even better response times. This said, I'm not a fan of ultralow response rates.

for modern PC games, yes, but neither for DOS games, nor for console or arcade games. There's a difference between 60 image updates per second, and 144 image updates per second beyond pixel response times.
Re: DOS games, how do you play them ?
Of course, that's why I wanted one, just wondered if 70hz fits better in 144hz than 60hz for DOSBox too because that would be a nice plus. Guessing that's a no.Fudoh wrote:for modern PC games, yes, but neither for DOS games, nor for console or arcade games. There's a difference between 60 image updates per second, and 144 image updates per second beyond pixel response times.
Re: DOS games, how do you play them ?
I was under the impression that Mode X was a bit of an undocumented hack and although lots of demo-scene stuff used it, not that many games actually did? Windows 95 could use it too I believe, but mode 13h was more common. Wikipedia says "Mode 13h was 320 × 200 @ 70 Hz, the most common mode for VGA-era PC games, uses exactly the same timings as the 640 x 400 mode, just halving the dot clock and displaying each line of pixels twice".So I guess that most games used Mode X ? ...
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
