I love to drive around aimlessly. Now I gotta cut back because of the high gas prices, which is much worst in San Francisco.

My favorite moment during my driving test: It was time to park downhill. The instructor and I passed a spot that's between two cars, and the spot's kinda tight. There was another spot further ahead that only has a car behind it, and open space in front. I asked her can I park in that one, and she said ok. Beautiful.

^^ Well, naturally, you don't want to pull into a space that's so tight you can't even get out of the car ;)

...I made that mistake once :? damned idiot "compact car" parking where everyone ignores the confusing half-faded lines and even tries to park minivans there :x

That's when a sunroof or hatchback comes in handy. ;)

I was afraid if the tester asked me to parallel park downhill between those two cars, I might bump one of them and automatically fail. My driving instructor took three of us to the test, and only I passed. 8) One girl made a left turn, and went up the center island, automatic fail. Another was asked to leave a parking space, but the wheels were turned the other way, since it was downhill, so when she stepped on the gas, she went up the sidewalk. Automatic fail.

I failed for not looking back while going out. Instant fail.

DAMN IT. I'm taking it again, though, and this time I'll make sure I pass it since I'm paying for this.

I still didn't REQUIRE it--they didn't make me prove I took it. What needs to happen is a more regular testing and immediate suspension for failure, instead of how I was tested only initially [and minimally so] to get my license... the rest was merely updating my age and address.

I meant better mass transit in larger cities that don't already have it, obviously, or for instance, there IS a metro in the Los Angeles area, but NO ONE USES IT because they'd rather enjoy the freedom of sitting in three hours of traffic in their CARS. Yes, there are those who will ride the bus, too, but they're a minority.

Also, we could take out the whole population of New Jersey... ;)

Yes, though we need all these things, we won't GET them, because the car makers would pitch a fit and all these soccer moms who need a new SUV every year would rather have that luxury than pay a few more taxes to fund stricter driving enforcements to keep people SAFE.

Safety is one of those things people seriously take for granted... no one wants to pay for it in advance, they'd rather sue after the fact :x
Actually, we won't get them because the maerits of them are debateable. Even if you forced everyone to take a drivers ed class instead of reading manual, does that mean people will actually be better drivers? Laws don't keep people safe, laws are there for after the fact. Good, responsible drivers are what keep people safe and you can't teach people responsibility. Elsewise, it'd be a complete waste of money.
Feedback will set you free.
