Could that cause the problem?

Check the +12V line, but if your other games are working it isn't likely.

Ok, problem found. Its the supergun, tried it out on another shitty one and the sound worked fine through that. Once I get this sorted out I'll have some scores for you.

Icarus - 2,718,660 - Stage 2 - Bond [ST]

Image

No, seriously. Stage 2. Everything was going smoothly until Midi showed up. Finished stage 1 with 8,000pt Medals, and passed Meidi without dying. Made it quite deep into stage 2, scoring quite well, and then it all went to hell on Midi's second and final forms.

I think I need to start suiciding to decrease rank a lot more, and figure out a safe routine against Midi before I can make progression.

On a related note, I managed to record some wobbly and blurry stage 1 footage using my digital camera in camcorder mode. Ended the stage with 9,000pt Medals, and passed Meidi without dying (using safe, non-milking tactics). I died very early on though, but managed to rescue the run through the rest of the stage. Trying to find some way of converting it from CrapTime to AVI format, preferably without losing too much image quality so I can compress it with DivX.

Icarus - 3,639,010 - Stage 3 - Bond [ST]

Image

A pretty decent run this time. Managed to get MAX Medals just before Meidi arrived, and kept them all the way through stage 2 and up until the stage 3 midboss, who managed to stomp me as I was making my way to collect another one. Lost my spare Extend, subsequently dropped the Medal, and died shortly after (at the first train that scrolls upscreen as opposed to downscreen). The game really kicks up a notch in stage 3...

I think I finished the first stage with 1.5 - 1.6mil. (Can't really tell, as the top few pixels of the score display are cropped off.)

I've figured out three good methods to tackling Meidi safely: one is a non-scoring speedkill; one is a milking speedkill; and one is a milking attack, with double suicide and a hadou to finish. Whichever is used depends on how I've played the stage itself: if I accidentally acquire Rocket at any point, I just speedkill (to try and keep rank as low as I can) but if I manage to tackle the stage decently, then milking attacks are used instead.

Still uncomfortable with Midi's second and final forms, although I now play the chicken method and just time out the final form by sweeping up the side of the screen to the top as she tries to trap me.

Baby steps as I start to build a good strategy for the first few stages. Watch out RFK, I'm coming for you ^_-

Bring it on Icarus !

BTW: I have a complete different strategy => i dont have a specific one.

But i dont really care about the medals floating around, and i collect two and sometime 3 rockt launchers (i hate the wide spread shot...in every shooter  ).

Greetings

Since we're discussing a little strategy here, I have found a Japanese strategy guide from the Japanese record holder for the 1P side (as of Arcadia issue no. 65):

http://www15.ocn.ne.jp/~kmt/ibara_kouryaku.htm (home page)

By the way, his top score is 16,552,000.

Thanks for that, BER. It's a little difficult to make sense of the machine translations, though -_-;;
I kind of suspected the best score to be in the F,xxx, xxx range (15mil) but 16mil is a pretty big score for such a short game (only six moderate length stages). There must be a lot of milking and scoring areas - I know of one on stage 5, with two fast moving lines of drones that drop Medals each, a hadou at that point could add around 600k in points.

I'll have to read this tonight after work.

Maybe it's worth extending this topic to cover the port now too? Either mix PS2 arcade scores in with what's here, or add another section, plus a section for arranged.

Right! As much as I love this game, i'm finding real life to be too busy at the moment, so keeping this up could be a chore. Does someone want to start a new threat that includes the PCB and PS2 arcade and arrange modes?

I'll take the scorethread on if you don't mind, Ord. My own life is getting pretty busy as well, but I think I can manage to run the Ibara thread if it's required. ^_^

Might have made it to the boss, but made a silly mistake then foolishly tried to use the hadou to get out of a tight spot. Of course I fired it at the middle of the screen, so it only held my death off for a bit while I waited for the giant battleships on both sides to eat me alive.
