Would you like to see a port (not the only port) of a Cave Game?

Yeah, I would buy their games if they were ported to PC.

Not sure where this stands, but I would love for Valve to get some of the top shmups on their system. Do the shmup genre some justice. They don't hate shmup games, they just hate lame ones. People would get sick of FPS games if all they ever got to play was lame ones. Jamestown was picked up no problem. Hopefully some others we know will be making their way there soon! :)

The real question is: would porting to PC be actually a bad thing for Cave? if it is, then why?

I still remember how Moozooh stated the scoring on a computer can be subject to TAS, that's why I put the 3rd option, but besides that, is there any downside to Cave porting to PC without neglecting other ports?

I've no problem with PC releases of anything. Couldn't care less either way about them.

I have a big problem with someone sending me a message that is irrelevant to me. Idiot.

I sent the PM because I know that there are people for whom it's relevant.

Anyway Cools, if i've bothered you, sorry. I don't want to bother anyone with this, I just want to get enough support to get this going.

I'm a little confused about why people are so annoyed by one PM... I do hope it doesn't start a trend though.

To the people complaining about getting a PM

Get over it. Whaddya think your inbox is some hallowed ground upon which no-one may tread without your express written permission?

Personally I'd love to see Cave games on steam, even though i already have a J360 and an EU360 as it makes them much faster to start up and play than booting an Xbox etc.

Id definitely cite the success of Jamestown as a good example of what can happen with the right drive.

Finally, I don't get the people who are yelling that this thread is spam. Seriously is it such a massive crime to have a couple of threads like this on the front page? Here's an idea if this thread offends you so much: make a thread about something that you want to discuss...or jus ignore the threads you don't like!

A) Read PM, visit thread, vote or don't
B) Skim PM, delete if irrelevant to your interests
C) Do nothing

Thread isn't spam. PM is. Recieve notification about a PM from someone, come to forum, check, not about a sale/purchase/something involving me personally. Wasted my time.

Yes, there is an awful lot of stuff I do in life that even I would consider time wasted, but it's my choice to do so. This has wasted my time and I dislike it as much as I dislike spam trying to sell me products I don't want.

Now I'm wasting your time in some sort of retribution.

I imagine most people here (including me) have their PMs set to notify them by eMail when they recieve one. Thus making it more of an issue of "Just a PM". Especially when he sent like 400 of them out. There is absolutely no reason or need to do this, especially since there's another "Cave games on Steam" thread right on the first page. http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41158

I'm sure there is interest here in getting Cave's games on PC in some form or another, but this is not how you're going to get attention for it.

So that third choice, "Yeah, But with limited options on scoreboards since i doubt PC owners"

Can you be more specific than an incomplete sentence? You doubt PC owners ... what?

Couldn't care less if their solution for a PC release were to use some piece of shit DRM platform like Steam, like everyone else seems to want around here.

2D shooters have so far been niche enough to almost avoid entirely the scourge of DRM on PC gaming. Let's try to keep it that way.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

FYI, Steam pisses me off and I will never buy another game for Steam. Cave should release PC ports without DRM and/or on physical media, then I would buy.

I don't see how it could hurt CAVE, some developers make more money by releasing their stuff on steam than any other platform.

However I don't see it happening for various reasons.

If you think you can tell a few westerners to beg CAVE via Twitter and they'll magically decide to switch to a plan that goes against every single tradition of Japanese game distribution (not to mention one that's kind of financially risky), you're being a bit... idealistic and naive are the nicest way to put it. I voted no.

Also I hope you didn't PM like every poster on the forum.

I've never even seen a screen from Steam and I have absolutely no interest in seeing it.
Or promoting downloadable games for that matter.

But I understand times are a-changing.

Somebody mind to post the pm so I can at least pretend to be part of this coterie?

As you might have noticed, there has been some talk recently about asking Valve to contact Cave in order to get a PC port of their shmups. While it's true that the problems that Valve and Cave may have with the issue are important in terms of profit and programming I strongly believe that they haven't considered overcoming those problems mainly because they haven't detected the fan base that Cave and shmups in general have in the west and the possibilities the genre has on steam being Cave more than a indie or doujin developer.

Valve has been interested in promoting doujin and alternative gaming since some years ago and along that line of business they have contacted Japanese doujin developers to distribute games that wouldn't be able to be sell commercially here in the west without Valve's approach. The genres released on steam are varied: shmups, platformers, RPG'S... and most of the products released have sold well and established a solid group of customers interested in Steam Indie releases.

Now, we have Cave, best developer of shmups on the last decade, and with a proper marketing and mouth to mouth campaign, the games would sell quite well among anyone interested in Japanese games.

But that's not the important issue, we should leave all the development and marketing to then if Cave and Valve reach an agreement, BUT, that contact and agreement will never happen if us, future customers don't move and put the credit that may bring Cave and all their awesome games to a broader audience here in the west.

We are not asking from Cave to go Full Digital distribution nor to stop selling and developing their console ports, there are a lot of games released on Steam that also have physical copies on the market. I'm also an owner of and XBOX 360. But, as one of the employees of Cave mentioned (please excuse me for not remembering his name) “focusing on a sole platform has lost its meaning (...) we are going to focus where the customers are”.

I'm starting a new thread and poll to discuss new ideas so people can consider the when e-mailing Valve and later, Cave. Go ahead and vote in it please.

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=41182

If you want to help us spread this message to every shmup board, forum, IRC you may know asking then to participate in this brainstorm. When you get all the info you need to know we may start sending the e-mails

Thank you for your time.
