Wine isn't nearly good enough to substitute for Windows. I'll run a few little things in Wine [mostly little command-line things that the dev didn't provide source for, some old VB6 apps, and surprisingly enough, Photoshop CS5... once you can bypass the installer], but throwing a random Windows program at it to run tends to have various issues [display errors, sound cutting out for no good reason, crashes, etc].
Also, a lot of games have issues due to the less-than-complete DirectX implementation.

And don't get me started with OpenOffice or whatever it is called now vs MS Office. I love my Linux, but there's still a reason I run Office in VirtualBox when I need to work with .doc/docx, .ppt [especially this, OpenOffice's equivalent to PowerPoint is disgustingly slow when showing presentations], .mdb, etc.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

Just finding a simple option like Shut Down took close to 20 minutes. In order to find it you have to open the charms hotbar on the right, then select settings, than click power. To me that is non-intuitive. Why is shutdown under settings? It is not a setting. The same problem happens when trying to find an application, seldom used or otherwise.

The biggest issue I have is that nothing is intuitive and some of the locations for items are actually counter intuitive if you've ever used a computer before. If there was a simple tutorial that explained the changes, like you get with an OS X upgrade, it would make all the difference in the world. That and the more I look at the Metro start screen, the uglier I find it.

For example, in Vista/7 you can just hit the Windows key and start typing "Device" to get to Device Manager. In Windows 8, Device Manager won't come up because it's a "settings" item and not an "app".
I had no idea about that and I hope they do fix that since it is a clear regression compared to the Windows 7 Search Bar (which can index your whole hard drive if you want) but I don't think we should expect some kind of tutorial on a Consumer Preview.

This "hidden" shut down button is definitely strange. I can't see the reasoning behind that (besides it not being really problematic on a tablet)...
AFAICT, pinning sucks (buttons move around if window titles are enabled, scripts can't be directly pinned, some programs don't pin correctly). I still use the Quick Launch bar, which somehow works fine despite Microsoft's claims that it no longer exists.
I never had any problem with pinning, but I don't enable the window titles because its behavior is really weird... It tries to group together all the same windows, leaving pinned icons in the middle and it just feels wrong. I ended up getting used to the hover mechanism to access other windows when needed. And it is nice that you can close those you don't need anymore with a middle click.

Bump...

A very peculiar sighting of a familiar face has shown up in 8's keyboard screen:
