I actually prefer the black and white version. The 50's movie feel is completely lost when everything is colored. Plus some colors aren't very good, you can barely see the sandstorm on the second planet.

Somehow I missed this game back when it was released, only played it for the first time today. Enjoyed it a lot.

I installed this game on a PC that I have hidden in one of my arcade cabinets....

Damn think looks GREAT...PLAYS GREAT...and the 3D option..IN A F'IN CABINET!

It's nearly TOO cool!

Good work...If any of you have a MAME cabinet - I suggest giving Verminest a shot...
(and XYX and Flying V by Gryzor and Xeno Fighters R ...while you're in there  )

I still enjoy the original due to it's cool style...yet I really appreciate the ability to play it in this style as well. I wish all indie developers were this kind to us.

But is it my imagination or does the "83" version play just a bit different?...maybe a few tweaks here and there? I ask this because I seem to get further on one life.

BTW Did yaw notice that Locomalito is selling boxed versions of his games?

If I had some extra cash I would grab Hydorah and Verminest just to support him.

Just need a pair of those magenta & cyan colored anaglyph 3D glasses and you're good to go in viewing the shmup action in living 3D.

This game is great :) I'm about to set it up on my shmupping rig and find my 3D specs.

EDIT - I had to drill holes in my 'The Art of Dead Space' 3D glasses and use hair ties to strap them down. For some reason they weren't made with temple arms :?

I don't like this game much, but it HAS gotten me to notice Variax, which completely passed me by when Locomalito originally released it. I have to say it's quite an enjoyable little game.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

L'Abbaye des Morts is also worth checking out.

LOL!

I went for the Dead Space 3D glasses too...BUT THEY WERE NOT IN THE BOOK!!!!!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

My daughter must have used them and lost them...damnit!

I lol'd though when I saw the quote above, because I made a Bee-line straight to my DeadSpace Artbook the moment I got Vermnest installed in my cabinet.

Oh well...still looking for a pair...

Whoah, shit!

It's like being a kid again...Campy space music, invading insect horde....fuck yes! In my cabinet nonetheless!

I love Verminest '83. It's one of my favourite shmup I can play again and again and it deserves more fame. It's also one of the few qualitative indie games that deserve to be called "retro-style". Not only it's a great tribute to Galaga francise, it's making its gameplay more enhanced. And of course Locomalito as an indie developer is great. At least he gets the point about what made old games so beloved and he shows it to his creations. Not like many other indie developers which they think that it's only only "cool" chiptune soundtrack and oversimplistic dot graphics (even thought we see NES games with much more detailed graphics) with mediocre gameplay which is either a boring platform game or another uninspired Gradius/Megaman/Space Invaders/whatever clone.

I think it's too randomized for its own good, but it is probably his most original game and quite fun for a while.

That looks lovely, like a Master System game. As a big fan of both Locomalito's works and old Godzilla-style movies I'm looking forward to it very much.

Would be cool if someone actually ported it to the Master System.
