New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Actually, the 3DS has sold more units than the DS did in the same time period after its release, but I agree that it has no good future in sight.
Although Nintendo seems to have bribed Capcom to make it the new home of Monster Hunter, so we'll see.

Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
No, they don't. The success of the Wii over the 360 and PS3, and the success of the DS over the PSP are proof that most people don't care. If the game industry continues on the path it's been on for most of this generation (spending millions to develop/market "AAA" games, and needing to sell millions of copies just to break even), the game industry will most definitely crash. That business model is unsustainable, and I'm sure all the major publishers are aware of this, at least subconsciously. Besides, the publishers of those games are all about making as much money as possible, so it's within their best interest to sell you their "AAA" games via streaming services such as OnLive (increases profit on every game sold, eliminates piracy, and eliminates the used market). Are streaming services viable today? Not really. Will they be far more viable next-next gen? Absolutely. You don't need powerful hardware to stream games, just a fast internet connection and nearby servers.gct wrote:OT about future consoles being glorified plug-in handhelds - people want cutting edge graphics and you need a big box to power and cool that GPU.
It's a vicious cycle : few people care about a system due to a weak library, so few publishers release games for it, so the system is doomed to failure, so even fewer publishers release games for the system, so it's even more doomed, etc.kevenz wrote:why would anyone bother releasing games on 3ds..... it's doomed to be a failure.
Ultimately, a system is only as good as its library and price (and more recently, gimmicks that allow new methods of interaction with the library).
The DS didn't receive a massive price drop ~5 months after launch, so it's not a fair comparison.Estebang wrote:Actually, the 3DS has sold more units than the DS did in the same time period after its release, but I agree that it has no good future in sight.

The 3DS situation is kind of funny; it seems as if Nintendo copied Microsoft's strategy with the 360 almost entirely :
Release a system before its ready so you can get a head-start on the competition? Check.
Endure about a year with a weak library of games? Check.
System with hardware flaws and missing features because you launched it early? Check.
Give major 3rd party publishers moneyhats so they'll release games on your system that were previously exclusive to your rival's system? Check.
Have to do serious-damage control for a major issue that was a result of launching your system too soon? (In the case of MS, the RRoD and 3-year warranty. In the case of Nintendo, the high price of the 3DS and the early price-drop) Check.
Nintendo copied Microsoft without learning from any of their mistakes.

Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Hmmm, looks like something they started developing on xbla and then switched to 3ds due to lack of competition there.
Compared to the stunning Super StarDust Delta on Vita this does look very basic...
Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
All I know is that my interest in the 3DS jumped from zero to 100% when I saw how well Super Mario 3D Land turned out (even Tim Rogers loves it and he slammed Mario Galaxy which I enjoyed quite a bit). This plus a new Mariokart (which also looks like the best entry in the series so far) makes it a great gift for the christmas season. And it will be the first time in over 15 years that I will get a videogame gift from my parents for christmas
As far as I remember, the DS didn´t really take off after it got good games and a redesign. I agree, Nintendo got pretty arrogant with the initial price, but now it has hit a personal sweetspot for me. I don´t even care that my iPod Touch has twice the resolution - the 3DS has buttons and Nintendo games.
And I usually don´t give a shit about modern gaming in general anymore - but even as much as I have grown out of gaming as it is nowadays, the magic of a good Mario title is something that still works on me.

I don't care what they release for it. I won't be buying one until they significantly increase the dismal battery life.

Turns out this thing also has a bit of a card game element to it.

Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Kokuga doesn't really make me want to go get a 3DS. The 1-shot mechanic sounds like a turnoff.
I do plan on a Vita however. Lack of region locks, having Cave as a developer (Daifukkatsu and Galuda II ported there would be great), and that new Ys Celceta game have swayed me toward it.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Too bad it's region-f****d...
Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
If this game gets a Western release, it might be just enough to push my 3DS attitude from "interested" to "buying".
Not sure why Nintendo decided to get back into region locks. I think that is really stupid.

Trailer is out here:
http://andriasang.com/con06a/kokuga_trailer/
Trailer is apparently Iuchi-made according to his blog.
I picked up some info from the livestream as well:
・Will be a package release, around 4000 yen
・Probably early summer release
Really hyped for this one.

Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
I'm excited for this too, but it's chances of a western release SEEM to slim that I'm trying to keep myself level
Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Judging by its graphics, I really thought this would show up as a downloadable title. Strania's the recent original G.Rev game that really deserved a deluxe retail release.
Slim chances of this ever making it to the West, but I have a feeling we're not missing out on a whole lot. I'm not at all interested in the 3DS right now, anyway. As long as I can get the Vita Senko I'll be happy.

Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
My interest in the 3DS went from next to nought, to mildly interested. And that's only because Iuchi is on board...
Is he now a permanent member of staff at GRev?

Thise are great news since the 3ds is region fucked. I am really looking for this one. The atmosphere looks to me a bit bland thoug the gamplay looks fun. Also coop play looks good I wonder how different are the coop levels from solo ones. By the way I haven't seen a ything yet but is the game supposed to have boss battles??Zeether wrote:G.Rev said on Facebook that they are looking into ways to release this overseas.

Well, they didn't need to. A bit disappointing to think about, sure, but the 360 strategy proved to be a winning one in the end.Cuilan wrote: The 3DS situation is kind of funny; it seems as if Nintendo copied Microsoft's strategy with the 360 almost entirely :

It doesn't help that the competition in this case seems like less of a threat than the PS3 was to the 360.
We might want to shit all over the 3DS, but truth is, it's selling like hotcakes, and Nintendo systems have survived on mostly first-party efforts [see: N64, GameCube, Wii].
And then, it's a normal DS as well, running normal DS games. Just like people updated to the various DS/DSi subrevisions, a lot of ordinary folk are treating the 3DS the same way.
Also, factoring inflation, it's cheaper than the original DS -- $150 then is $174 now.
The original $250 price point for the 3DS was a bit retarded, but people still bought it.
Back on topic, I dunno if I'm interested in this. Even if it comes over. Looks like any other abstract glowy arena shooter.
But then, G.Rev is doing it, so it could be amazing.

Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
I'm excited for a domestic G.Rev release in the States, if it does happen. I hope so! G.Rev needs more love on this side of the world. Plus, a tank game would appeal to a wider audience, I feel, than the shmup crowd.
While I agree that the art-style looks blase, the bosses shown in that recent trailer makes me think it'll be the polished product that we all expect and love (at least I do!) from G.Rev. At the very least it would be fun!

Not as good as if Yack composed it though, or hell even the guy who made the strania soundtracks, right? :p
(not that serious, just heard enough namiki as I'd imagine a lot of people here have and doubt he would make something really different)
Re: New G.rev shmup for 3DS
Namiki is more versatile than Yonao & Yack together.
Supersweep will suffer a great loss with G.rev Game’s Gear on the scene. I'm worried about their future.
