Length can be subjective. Crimzon Clover is long as hell but doesn't feel that way because theres always action going on. However, a game like Gradius V has some dull moments and not to mention bland music, so it feels long and boring.

Some looping games like Batsugun Special you don't even notice the time because you are too busy having fun. They end up going pretty fast and you don't realize that 20 minutes have gone by since you cleared the first loop/

Crimzon Clover is between 35-45 minutes, depending on how fast you kill bosses, which mainly depends on the ship. Which is not too long. 45 minutes I think is just about OK for a 1 loop game.

How long exactly does ESPGaluda II take for a full run. That and Deathsmiles seem around the perfect length. I also don't mind Gradius III's length despite being longer than that.

Not a fan of looping games at all though, which is why I'm stopping DDP after I got the 1-all, I have no desire to go farther in it.

V-V 2 loop lenght was fine. I guess most 2 loop Cave games are that length, so it's all good.

But Battle Garegga length is just perfect, epic and satisfatory

There's an MSX shmup called "Gulkave" (Also available for SG-1000) which is probably the longest shmup I ever played.

The thing has 32 levels (And they aren't exactly short levels), a 1CC of it needs around 2 hours and half.

Guess who made it? Compile.

Psikyo games have the perfect loop length as far as I'm concerned.

I mostly play for survival, esp. the new bullet-hell games, so I spend about 15 minutes per day on average. It doesn't matter how good of a run I am doing, I'll stop at around 15 minutes, and go to bed (or work... or school). Some days I don't play at all.

Ironically, I will play Galaga, Commando, and Gyruss at an arcade for hours 8)

Typically I can play for 30 minutes to a hour until I get bored or frustrated.

About 2 hours on average for me. My longest sitting was 8 hours straight of Mushi Futari Ultra stages 1 through 3 back when I first started playing shmups.

I never got that kinda stuff. I mean seriously, what's the point.
And then you got stuff like Gradius V which takes ages for one loop and people got to I dunno which loop. Go pause the game and play a loop a day or what?
Yeah, it's totally madness. It's even more mad seeing it actually done since the bullets go at the speed of light after a while, but certainly not something I'd do. Clearly it wasn't that popular though - it got taken out in the Fighters and III/IV to be replaced with either 2nd loops or nothing.

15-30 min sits best with me.

Longer than that either becomes too much memorization or get's a too slow difficulty progression where the first stages just bore you.

I prefer it somewhere between 20-30 minutes but of course, its okay for it to be longer if there is just enough meaningful content to fill the time.
