Sorry about the delay, updated.

I probably shouldn't ask, but does anyone want me to split by character? I genuinely could not tell you the differences between characters in this game. Missiles I guess? Maybe a bit more damage here and there? Seems more like 1P/2P differences, which I probably should split for anyway, but whatever.

Lloyd is the power character, Lisa is speed, Keith is the all-rounder. Probably not worth it to split, honestly. Can't say one stands out as particularly better, it's all about your playstyle preference (ie. do you want quicker kills on bosses, or an easier time guaranteeing the Perfect Bonus?)

Wonder if it's even worth it using Lloyd in Saturn mode? The main appeal of him in Arcade mode is that he rips through bosses so quickly, but with the HP boost in Saturn mode, I'm thinking I should opt for maneuverability instead, since bosses are gonna stick around for a while anyway. Besides that, I'm really inconsistent getting the Perfect Bonus with him on certain stages, due to his scattershot A+B attack.

might try to improve, this run should have been 2.4M but I missed the perfect bonus in the last level (doh!) Also, I don't know why it shows my score entry twice...

Thank you! I managed a decent increase on my PB just now:

HAN - 2,465,690 - ALL - Lisa - wolfMAME .261

Although I feel 2.5M might be doable for me, I am pretty happy with this run and will stop here (for now).

I was wondering about that myself, here's what I found in the FAQ section:
If the administrator has allowed attachments, you may be able to upload the image to the board. Otherwise, you must link to an image stored on a publicly accessible web server, e.g. http://www.example.com/my-picture.gif.
I contacted Icarus and asked him if I can post images directly. Until he answers, I'll post my scores as you did:

Arcade version:

Keith Spader - 2,618,618 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

Saturn Arranged version:

Keith Spader - 2,605,935 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

There have been recent developments on how to approach Hyper Duel, that's how I could achieve these scores above. I'm referring to two videos, apparently posted by japanese players because of Hyper Duel's 30th birthday. Both videos are already linked to our forum in this great thread called "Highest scoring replays available (resource topic)"

Here's the link, just look under Tecnosoft: viewtopic.php?t=60767

I put over 277 hrs. to get past the 260 pts. barrier. I'm confident, that I can break the lowest score on the STG Hall of Fame, which is 2,635,106 points and dates from February 1994. All thanks to the patterns shown in both videos. Now even less skilled players can break at least the 240 mark.

Well, let's celebrate Hyper Duel's 30th with a discussion!

Well, since the answer to my question may take a little while, I decided to post my score as fellow member squidhead did. Pretty simple.

Arcade version:

Keith Spader - 2,619,912 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

Saturn Arranged version:

I made a small but important improvement to my AC score. One life lost to brainwashed Black Angel during the final fight, still, I wouldn't have reached the lowest score on the Hall of Fame anyway with those additional ten thousand points. Hopefully this will keep me motivated to reach further.

Keith Spader - 2,622,181 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

Image

Here's another thing, the time it cost me to get there. Especially the Arranged mode took a lot of those hours. My Saturn was counting...

Image

I paid about 435,- Euro for this game back in 2017 but sure got my money's worth, right?

NOTES; - for the first time in the history of playing this game for the last 20 odd years, somehow I managed to keep a helper alive after the stage two boss fight, which I pretty much had deemed impossible. I never really tried never really cared because most the time they're just gonna die the way he is, but one of my helpers survived And they gave me an extra score Boost that I normally never have and to top it off this was one of the better runs. I've had in a long time and I just happen to catch it on fucking stream. My first try of the night so this beats out the last record I posted just a week ago I think and I still don't know how to post pictures on here but You can go to my Twitch and watch it on YouTube at TTWITCH---Thunderforce222
Youtube- Thunderforcegod
And I managed to get a pretty good five stage run
Also, after careful scrutiny of both versions, it seems there is a scoring difference between the arcade and the Sega Saturn version. It seems that the arcade is probably about 200,000 points higher somewhere in there it's doesn't go by the same scoring Parameters as the Sega Saturn arrange mode. So to compare scores of arcade and Sega Saturn mode And decide which is the top score is not feasible due to that they're too totally different game scoring systems.
The only thing that makes a difference in somebody's run would be stage five other than that the scores would be very similar stage five would be the telltale and even then there's similar between all the runs. I've seen in mine..

I can confirm the scoring differences, though my observations differ. I did notice the difference between the original arcade game and both versions on the Saturn. Already in the first stage, you will get 2,000 points more in the original AC game and this continues through most of the other stages. What causes it? Some enemies have their point revenues removed. It's relatively easy to notice in the 3rd stage, where you won't get any points, neither in the arcade port, nor the Saturn mode on the Saturn for this enemy here...

Image

...whereas you'll get them in the original arcade game. Why? My guess is, that due to the limited time of only, IIRC, four months, both Saturn versions are bugged. The difference throughout all the stages sums up to about 20,000 points between the original arcade game and the arcade port on the Saturn and not 200,000. Further, according to my observations, there's no difference in scoring between the Saturn Mode and the Arcade port on the Saturn, apart of course of the fact, that you can't shoot down the rockets of the 3rd stage guardian for points in the former, which seems to have been removed intentionally in order to make the game more difficult and yeah, it works.

Fortunately these S-mines...

Image

...which the last guardian, the brain-washed Black Angel uses are still giving a lot of points on both Saturn versions, as they do in the original arcade game. A great milking source!

ThunderForce 222, are you sure of your 200,000 points estimation? My scores differ about 20,000 between the Arcade port and Saturn Mode. Anyway, congrats on your achievement on Very Hard. I will have to try a run on this difficulty, yet.

I can report a further improvment on my score, by now, there will only be little improvements anyway. This time though, I managed to record my status just after destroing the last guardian, so you can have some more information:

Image

Keith Spader - 2,629,801 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

Image

I was very close to reach my goal of breaking the lowest score on the Hall of Fame which is 2,635,106 points, unfortunately the spider guardian in stage 7 took one of my three helpers. This meant a 10,000 points loss. Well, better luck next time.

I finally reached my goal and surpassed the lower Japanese Hall of Fame scores from 1994, which puts me on the 13th rank.

Status after destroying Black Angel:

Image

Final score:

Keith Spader - 2,648,127 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

Image

Additional score data for this run:

Stage 1: Got the surplus "B" and saved 2 robots.
Stage 2: Got 2 surplus "P", shot down some of the ships coming out of the hatches and saved 3 robots.
Stage 3: Got 3 surplus "P", shot down 11 of the last guardians' rockets and all the debris.
Stage 4: Got 4 surplus "P" and 1 surplus "G/T".
Stage 5: Collected 63 gems and shot down all of the 40 container holding robots.
Stage 6: Shot down all parts of Nightmare's carrier.
Stage 7: Got 3 surplus "P" and saved 3 ships.
Stage 8: Shot down 3 mortar cannons, shot down shrapnel from 11 S-mines and saved 2 extends.

Stage 1,2,3,4,6,7 & 8: Saved "Perfect" bonus (missed shooting down any of the containers in stage 5).
Stage 1,2,3,4,5,6 & 8: Saved full meter (lost about 2,3k points from meter in stage 7).

Here's my entry for Saturn's Arranged Mode on "Very Hard". I lost one gem from the 63 I could get in stage 5 and all 3 extends during the last fight. Still, I did manage to save all three robots in stage 2, which makes it almost even. Anyway, you don't play on this difficulty level for score, it's very annoying.

My points right after the Black Angel destruction:

On this difficulty level you'll get a nice additional graphic of your mecha during the ending sequence:

Image

Unfortunately, there's no separate score list for "Very Hard" or any other difficulty level, like for example in "Einhänder". So, as you can see, all difficulties mix together on a single score list.

Keith Spader - 2,595,682 - ALL - Keith - Saturn

Image

My next goal is to achieve a better score in this mode on default difficulty. Somewhere around 2.63 million are possible, but it's easier said, than done.

Good news everyone! Finally reached that goal I mentioned above. It was a nearly perfect run, minus two little flaws: one in stage 2, where I shot the shafts too soon and another in stage 3, where I missed to get all of the debris. Ah well, this is still a great score and will be hard to beat, unless someone comes with a better stage 5 pattern, than those Japanese players I copied it from. I hope this will eventually happen, but until then it's...
