News flash - Mushihimesama in MAME (not working yet)
Re: News flash - Mushihimesama in MAME (not working yet)
I don't know what the demul team intends to release as emulated titles. If they go with the 3 year/5 year rule, it wouldn't be so "bad". MAME is still pretty far from emulating this game, even though the ROMs for the Mushis (well a single revision of each -- this needs to be rectified) are in the wild, if you look at the skeleton driver's address map it's quite randomly assigned. If MAME does emulate it though, then yeah, every title on the system is available for release.
I wouldn't be surprised if a cease and desist is in order, actually, groundless as it would be for an emulator.

Stop looking at the small picture.neorichieb1971 wrote:Can a company exist when 99% of its creations are available free?
Now people are seeing a trend that nothing is sacred.
Arcades in general even Japan are on a heavy decline and it's nothing to do with emulation - it's to do with current trends.
How much money do you think Cave really makes from us westerners compared to the 1000s of PCBs they sell to jp arcades?
These are arcade games and meant to make money in arcades. If no arcades in the west ever have them then who are we hurting??
Cave themselves already moving onto stuff like adventure games and iphone games. This is well before emulation of SH-3 was announced.
I have always said - I would play these games in arcade only if i could but that isn't possible in my country. Nothing can match the real PCB feel but I also feel PCBs are for arcades and not for home use. I couldn't see myself getting the same enjoyment playing a PCB at home compared to arcade. It just isn't the same - similar to how MAME and PCB isn't the same. If you think you are getting the full experience of these games playing by yourself in your bedroom, then good for you, but it's not how they were meant to be played.

I didn't realize MAME was only for westerners. If its on the internet it means anyone can download it.
So if a company is going downhill your way of thinking is putting its demise into the express lane. Why hang about Cave might as well drop like a rock from this point onwards.

This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.
Re: News flash - Mushihimesama in MAME (not working yet)
Taken from MAME's homepage:
MAME is strictly a non-profit project. Its main purpose is to be a reference to the inner workings of the emulated arcade machines. This is done both for educational purposes and for preservation purposes, in order to prevent many historical games from disappearing forever once the hardware they run on stops working. Of course, in order to preserve the games and demonstrate that the emulated behavior matches the original, you must also be able to actually play the games. This is considered a nice side effect, and is not MAME's primary focus.

Presumably MAME developers follow their guidelines for derivative works, which includes:neorichieb1971 wrote:I didn't realize MAME was only for westerners. If its on the internet it means anyone can download it.

Combine that with austere mentioning the "3 year/5 year rule", and it paints the picture that the developers wait a certain time period before actually releasing the code. Maybe I'm blind, but MAME development isn't completely public (no git/SVN repo for us plebes) despite being open source. Even though developers may be working on emulating the hardware and writing a game driver before the release of said code would be acceptable, that doesn't mean that they'll be playable or even run in a "Back Label" state while Cave is still selling the hardware and console ports (nevermind that the ports generally contain extras that you won't find in the arcade versions).Do not add games which are more recent than 3 years old, or which are still being sold new by the company that produced them. MAME is not intended to be a platform that competes with arcade games that are still being actively sold.

mjclark wins the thread. Flawless victory.
Once again, hats off to his sense of humor. More people need that too.
Yeah, nobody wants to play with second hand goods, ne?
They need to retain their purity! (Gosh, this sounds like those creepy otakus lynching mangakas for even thinking about giving a boyfriend to a female character, at that rate, read motherfucking Fist of the North Star and regain your manliness ffs)
edit: back to topic, at least we might eventually be able to play Mushihime using whatever monitor we want and without suffering the blurry mess the PS2 port was, right?

At least all the SH-3 games will get competition now.

Totally will not affect the sales man

Re: News flash - Mushihimesama in MAME (not working yet)
Not the sales I'm worried about, I'd rather play games on my PC with save states and also being up close to the screen. Can't really do that on an 360. Sure, there will be the arrange modes, some of which are better than the originals. But I'd still prefer to be playing on the PC.

And why not?
Not like hooking up a 360 to a monitor through HDMI,DVI or VGA is hard.

Seriously. HDMI switches aren't expensive, and you can get something like this if you need separate audio output (provides 3.5mm stereo, optical, coax).Zeron wrote: Not like hooking up a 360 to a monitor through HDMI,DVI or VGA is hard.
Re: News flash - Mushihimesama in MAME (not working yet)
My old JP Xbox doesn't have HDMI. I know I could hook it up some other way (I should probably mention my TV is TATED too...) but the big thing here is save states. Being able to INSTANTLY (as in, not a 10 second load, I'm impatient alright?) start over or go to a certain stage is big for a ADHD kid like me. I have severe restartitis, everything must be perfect!
But I mean yeah, PCs won't be able to do Arrange A or Ketsuipachi, or all the stuff on the Espgaluda2 disk. So, I guess there's that. People (and by people, I mean one) have said that demul requires a god mode PC, and my PC isn't.

Slightly off topic, but 100% relevant:
When I saw the working BlazBlue:CT arcade image rip on the torrent sites (somebody ripped the data off the Taito Type X2's hard drive)
I figured it would be no-time before we saw a Deathsmiles II PC\Arcade hard drive rip...none such luck I see, but damn...too close for comfort?

Futari... whoopee shit

Ok, it's one of my favourite games but it's a game that's been widely available for 18 months and now costs £30 brand new (and is region free and has all the display options you could possibly want).
Enjoy it cheapasses.
I am looking forward to sampling Mushihimesama though

Apparently it was a leak from a dev machine, not from the actual encrypted harddrive.Matskat wrote:Slightly off topic, but 100% relevant:

If you mean the music, it's already had an OST for years. It doesn't have sample-based music like the PGM games did ..JOW wrote:I am looking forward to sampling Mushihimesama though :P

Re: News flash - Mushihimesama in MAME (not working yet)
What we are gonna sample in the next months AND if this gets unleashed in the wild, will be some of the greatest comedy moments in years. The Ketsui/DOJ/Espgaluda situation offered a lot of laughs but this one includes the "hardest videogame ever" (yeah, that crazy "Sushihimesama Futanari", comes with tuna sashimi too). Can you imagine all the illiterate masses of people who already compare CAVE to Touhou bastardizing, repeatedly VIOLATING THE HOLY SACRO-SANCTA SANCTITY of these titles with their ignorance? AH, THE HONOR! Rent your garments!!!! Seppuku! Filthy gaijin! Atatatatatatatatatata!
On the bright side, even more people getting driven to the genre. Let's admit it: Ketsui and DOJ aren't precisely that welcoming to someone who doesn't know much about schmuckmups. And Espgaluda, while accessible, has a pretty complicated system and will wipe the floor with your ego after you reach the final boss with a full life stock (or at least it does that to me

So... this is a video from the Demul version? And it has sound already emulated?
Wow. I'm seeing a glorious year coming.
When will the guy release the emulator for us small pedestrians?
I only care for Mushi (NOT Futari) and Ibara. Please wake me up when there's news on those games. Thanks.

Well, if you play it on a tate'd CRT with the deinterlacing patch, it's not entirely bad. The slowdown inaccuracy still sucks though.JOW wrote:I actually meant sampling (i.e. playing) the game itself :)Udderdude wrote:If you mean the music, it's already had an OST for years. I´m the same way. I also love savestating my favourite bits and play them over and over again, up to the point where I rarely ever play the game start to finish, but rather jump in at a certain part and play for 5 minutes, and then continue with whatever else I´m doing that day.ratikal wrote:My old JP Xbox doesn't have HDMI. Sure, it´s isn´t a very authentic way of playing arcade games, but it´s the way I enjoy it. One of my recent habits is playing Progear stage 2 - my favourite stage in general - on the second loop. I rarely survive longer than till the midboss, but man is it a blast to play and very well suited for that short work break. I also think it has made my skill improve a lot more than just dying at a certain point and having to wait until I finish my credit and then get back to that point later. I love being able to just jump in at the part I´m stuck and pratice that one specific segment until I mastered it.
