I had been playing Baten Kaitos (right about to start the second disc) but I've kind of lost interest.

Been playing a lot of the original Gradius on the Saturn lately... my last run pretty much ended when I idiotically crashed into that final asteroid in 2-1, and could never recover despite having 5 or 6 ships left over.

A bajillion GBA games. Well:

Mario Advance 1-3 - Beat the first one earlier this week and finished the second one a couple of days ago. I beat 4 awhile back. Now I'm just tagging away at Yoshi's Island.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong - I love it so.

Donkey Kong - Yay!

Zelda II - So... fucking... hard...

And some other games I'm sure I'm forgetting. No Saturn though, I've had the flu all week so I've been confined to the bed.

Well, is it the DC or GC version you're talking about? In the original DC release the encounter rate was inarguably on the high side, but apparently in the GC "legends" re-release they tweaked that (I can't say from personal experience, since I've only played the DC version). Either way I enjoyed the game very much: best impulse buy I ever made.

I play Mars Matrix with one button also, I imagine this would be pretty hard using a standard dc controller tho (I use a stick). If you use a separate button for mosquito, there's a little lag when going into it

Playing:
Gradius V (I think I'm getting worse at this game)
DoDonpachi (just got it yesterday)
Castlevania Rondo (I'm very stuck on level 4...usually good at castlevania)
Sly 2 (ok, I haven't touched this in 2-3 weeks, 3D platformers just get so boring to me before I even hit the halfway mark)

Axelay and Gradius 3 (SNES) - Haven't been able to play any modern shooters so far this year. In fact, probably won't play any until Dragon Blaze/GWG arrive in April. 16-bit games are good for not having to try.

I never minded the encounter rate in Skies of Arcadia. I didn't hear any gripes about it until i had already beaten the game, and I was a little surprised. Granted, I've played only a very few RPGs in my time, so SoA didn't have much to compare to, but I accepted the encounter rate and never griped about it. Maybe now that I've played Legends, if I played the DC version again (I'd have to buy it again, I sold it a while ago, damn me!) I would probably find the encounter rate annoying. But really, it's only once it's relative to something else, taken on its own it seemed like the most natural thing in the world.

The truely bizarre thing is that the first time I played Skies of Arcadia, I got to Antonio and was completely mauled. Why? Because after the first few scripted battles with Alfonso's cronnies, I did not a have a single random encounter, and was still level 1 or 2 when I faced Antonio. I don't know how it happened, but it did.

Skies of Arcadia Legends is another game I should return to. I was in the middle of a game a few months ago and then just lost interest. I was somewhere after Yafutoma.

Regarding to Skies of Arcadia game, I was referring to the Dreamcast version. The encounter rate is unbelievably high, but for some reason I still loved that game despite the crazy encounter rate.

I wish I still had it though, instead of it ending up in the trash somewhere because of an overzealous roommate smashed it to bits out of rage towards me [which is a long story and a completely different story altogether] when I was living in Seattle at that time.

Fucking asshole.

Breath of Fire...the memories. I remember when it went on sale at Toys R Us for 20 bucks, and my friend and I had to walk through a pretty section of town to get it(this was about 11 years ago). Later it was never returned from another friend and I bought another from Matt. I remember fighting forever to get enough money for a Goldbar, which I think you'll eventually find.

Back on topic:

- Just finished Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV in the duo thing for the Playstation. That's enough RPG for a while.
- Gunbird 2. Trying to get to 2-2 and a single life clear.

This was my first 1 lifer for an arcade (well, mame) shooter.

I'm hit or miss with this game. The boss of the boss rush is my stopper. If I kill him, I keep going. If I die, it's gave over as I get pissed.

Raiden DX (PS1) - Been playing this on normal. Then the high score thread went the way of Arcade difficulty. Then my controller was damaged.

Far Cry (PC) - I still love FPSs.

Contra: SS (PS2) - Got this a few weeks ago. One of these days I'll make it past level 4.

Might give Temple of Elemental Evil (PC) another try. I played it for 20 minutes and deemed it "too hard" after dying 2 or 3 times to the 2nd fight in the game.

Shooting (Life) - had a great night at the range tonight. Hey, it's a game to me ;)

First of all, WAY too much World of Warcraft. My Dwarf hunter there is up to L44 (currently the level cap is 60), and I suspect once he hits L60 I'll probably cut back on that some. Besides that, I've picked up a number of games for my recently acquired Gamecube, most recently Zelda: Wind Waker and Super Mario Sunshine. I just recently got my new PC up and running, so I'll probably pick up Half Life 2 to check out the system's capabilities sometime in the near future.

Viewtiful Joe. Yes, I know, I'm late to the party, but I got the game just recently. I'm not very far into it yet (my current save is the hotel entrance) and I've already lost a life (but also bought an extra one).

It took me ages to beat that helicopter, while the end boss of chapter one was ridiculously easy in comparison. What kind of screwed-up level design is that? (The second encounter with the two helis was also very easy due to the fact that you have acquired the Zoom power by then and, more importantly, due to a glitch that allows you to stand in a save spot and smash the copters for lots ov Vs while they cannot hit you at all.)

The thing is that I never liked beat'em-ups at all, but I can't stop playing this game. It must be really good then, I guess.

Only the GameCube controller is really giving me a hard time and slowing my progress. I can't control Joe with the analog stick for the life of me, but the digital pad is positioned on the controller in a very uncomfortable place for my thumb to press it properly (my fingers are quite long). Seems I should get a better controller.

Occasionally, I put Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga in my Saturn and Dreamcast respectively and try to like them and I always end up stunned with appreciation, but having very little fun. Then I find myself playing a round of Strikers 1945 about half an hour later. Strange thing that.

I started the weekend with a little bit of "The Battle of Olympus", then moved on to "Lords of Thunder". After that I beat the special stages in "Super Mario World". Now I'm playing "Paper Mario 2" That I just picked up. The Cube seems to do 2D really well (hint to developers).

I would really have liked to see a 16-bit port of that game. *GREAT* game, but really hard and confusing with all the back tracking.

I just finished Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

What a great game, 36 or so hours of play and I can still go back to solve some side puzzles and play around. I highly recommend it, my 4 year old had a blast just watching me.

I'm currently playing catch-up. I'm behind on my gameplaying.

Legend of Zelda - Minish Cap (in Dark Hyrule Castle)
Metal Gear Solid 3 (haven't started it yet)

I have a pile of about twelve games that's collecting dust that I haven't played yet. Chaulk that up to carpal tunnel.

Haven't had too much time for gaming recently (aside from a couple of hours on Mario vs. Donkey Kong several months back, I haven't touched my GBA since clearing Astro Boy last summer.), but this is what's been on the rotation:
- Gradius V
- Burnout III (garnering most of the attention...just need to sweep the supers races to unlock the special circuit)
- Katamari Damacy

Once I finish my class, I'll spend a bit of time with X-Men: Legends; not sure whether or not I'll want to follow that up with the Minish Cap or give the action RPGs a rest for a bit.

I'm on a Konami binge these days. Having shunned Konami arcade shmups for most of my life, I recently discovered a newfound respect for them, and I've been making up for lost time. I've played at least one Gradius game (or related game) every day for the past few weeks. Mostly Gradius V, Gradius Gaiden, Gradius Galaxies, and Gradius 1 and Parodius Da! on the X68000. I've also played Deta Na! Twinbee quite a bit. It's been a while since I've touched a non-shmup, but the last ones I played were Growlanser II and Castlevania: Circle of the Moon. I forced myself to play through about half of COTN, but it's just not grabbing me like Aria of Sorrow did. The only thing I like about the game is the difficulty. Otherwise it's completely boring. Growlanser II was fun, one of these days I'm going to start on Growlanser III.

ESP Ra.de - In the cab, first time I got to level 5 :D

Thats all folks.

Espgaluda (I feel like I'm making progress, but a post-death glance at my score soon puts an end to that)

Catch! Touch! Yoshi! (This has relegated Feel the Magic to the game shelf for now)

F-Zero Climax (My favourite racing series, but not playing this too much at the moment)

Rez (Again! I tried playing it 'Mizuguchi style' recently [http://www.sonicteam.com/rez/movie_clips/index.html..the 'Rez Live' video], actually attempting to create a clappy tune/beat to go with Buggie Running Beeps...it was totally hypnotising..)
