I don't want to shit this thread down but I believe that its quite obvious this is going to be region locked since its a IKD horizontal game especially now since both the US and PAL has a publisher for CAVE's games. so a domestic release is nothing impossible.

My pants just exploded.
Who's the character designer for Akai Katana, by the way?

EDIT: Never mind, I think I've found him.

I really hope arcade mode gets the full screen treatment. Might have to start bombarding Cave with emails, though with the fuss around Guwange maybe there's no need. The game does look stunning though, and such an early release, they're spoiling us. I was thinking it would be their November port.

I also think there's a good chance of localization, being another hori, 16:9 etc.

Bit disappointed about the other announcements. I thought another arcade title was a given.

If this is high-res and 16:9, would it be possible for a Western pub to port it to PS3? Cue Japanese PS3 owning shooter fan import interest, oh wait...

The arcade version looked like a total snoozefest, but summoning gunboats out of portals in the sky is a cool aesthetic.

Standard price: 9,240 Yen
Limited Edition price: 7,140 Yen

I am just curious if this is just a mistake or if it is really true that the limited edition is cheaper than the standard edition. I have never bought a limited edition before bc I don't usually care too much for the soundtrack, esp for the additional cost. However, if it is the cheaper version, then why not.

It's a mistake, the prices are mixed up in the first post.
So, are we expected to turn our TV on its side?!

While everyone knew AK was coming as a home port I think anybody expected it so soon. I'd rather have an Ibara Kuro port instead of this one for this present year. Also Dangun wasn't mentioned.
I expect that the changes made for the home PCB are included in shinmode and as for the new stages that is great news, the new boss looks totally awesome.

Can't wait for this! Good to see more shmups being region locked, it seems like almost every one that's coming out this year is region free except DFK and this. And I'm sure Otomedius will be locked since it has already been confirmed as having a US release.

Genuine question: why is that a good thing?

I say this as a PAL gamer, so my perspective on region-locking may be slightly different to someone in a different region. Sometimes we wait ages for games to show up here and in the end they never arrive...

I've heard that this game is generally regarded as sub-par, but the trailer looks alright to me. Can anyone give a quick rundown of the game? Scoring, gameplay..

I don't know anyone who's ever made a comment on it being sub-par who's actually played it. It's mostly just speculation around its arcade success (which was marginal.)

I played it a handful of times and it's ace. The scoring system is weird, but wonderful and very easy to get a feel for, and the aesthetic is gorgeous.

If you DON"T have a jap 360, how is a game being region locked good news?

I wanted to say that being happy about not everyone is able to play this game is stupid and pathetic.

Them announcing so quickly that it will be region locked HOPEFULLY means they're already in talks with Aksys/RSG/etc. to get it distributed elsewhere. Otherwise, no, not really a good thing.

You're being short-sighted. Better to have many more people play it at a reasonable price via localization than only a few at a high import price.

Having to wait an additional 12 months to 2 years for a Western release seems like a high price to pay in and of itself though.
