Squirrels are about as cool as those small dogs, yapping to make up for their lack of brawn. Rats are the only rodents I have developed any fondness for.

Hey, that looks adorable. I don't know if I'd have the guts to act as guinea pig for a newbie tatooer. Respect :D

I'd like to see a lap dog do this:

Squirrel assault course video.

That's one of my best mates on that course, and yes, he's great at platform games.

Life is a temple, the body is a rollercoaster! In all honestly, he's a very good friend, and I'm too ugly to make look any worse!

From the same era I also have a random squiggly line on my right butt cheek. I can't remember having it done, and I haven't really drunk since (1999).

I want both a farewell and a welcome party.
And both should have lots of free beer... :P

Also this is a good chance to thank Herr Schatten for his good work and giving vote of confidence to Spadgy who'll no doubt do fine arse* well.

Dogs have healing powers, though.
I suppose all those arboreal mammals (cats, lemurs etc.) look down on humans as some kind of fallen apes, expelled from their paradise (such a standpoint wouldn't be utterly baseless). Squirrel, however, shows a ridiculously cocky attitude for a sponger who can be easily twatted by some owl. Say what you will about cat, but I doubt many owls would wanna mess with it, and yet I find cats - cruel and arrogant as they are - being sort of likeable.
It's not squirrels as such I have a beef with, though. They are like Forrest Gump - the film may be not too bad, but its cult following is repulsive. Same with squirrels and their fans. What rubs me the wrong way is people treating living beings (not just animals) as mascots, and squirrels happily leeching off this kind of people make for a particulary disgusting phenomenon in my book.

That entire post is genius! Seriously interesting in parts and hilarious in others! I love the idea of squirrels conciously leeching off of their fanbase!

If squirrels do have a cult following, that makes me feel a bit awkward, as I'd clearly be in it, and being part of an animal fanbase just feels a bit creepy (I'm greatly put off by the whole LOL Cats thing). I just like squirrels as I live in London and can watch them at any given time at my window, and see their ridiculous exploits as they climb and fall and fight (same deal with foxes). I find squirrels' behavior enchanting. I also live very close to a park filled with the little shits, and they are hilariously over confident, stealing food, chasing birds and so on. I recently saw a squirrel up a tree with a 12 inch baguette in its mouth, and that is the kind of thing I like. In another great incident my wife was filming a stop frame animation in the park when a squirrel came over and stole a sizeable robot action figure from the 'set' for no good reason. I chased it for a good 100 yards before I lost him. In short, squirrels cause the same kind of trouble I did as a 12-year-old.

I warm to any animal that is a hell-raiser, and from a more serious perspective, for an animal lover like me it's great that in a city there's an animal you get to watch up close (they'll even climb on you on occasion).

I see what you mean about treating a living being as a mascot as a little odd. I hadn't thought of it like that, and I'm probably guilty with squirrels. But then I feed the arseholes every week, I do voluntary work for charities maintaining animal habitats in London, and I'm vegetarian. I've earned more than enough 'pathetic animal loving liberal' points to exploit brand squirrel.

As for owls, they could twat an elephant I reckon. Double hard bastards. A cat wouldn't be a problem. Magpies attack and scare off domestic cats fairly regularly, so an owl could do it with ease.

Hmmm... Don't recall seeing any bird messing with a cat. Some tough magpies you have there.
If I had to put my finger on it, I'd say squirrels are touch too easy to like for my liking, which makes them, in a way, equally easy to dislike. Rats, on the other hand, have that obscene tail, males have those rampant testicles and people fear them (true story that; I saw at least one such dude). They also seem to have more enemies (my sister saw a rat killed and devoured by an otter, in the middle of the city, otter of all creatures). Now that's my kind of rodent.

Wow! I did actually read a newspaper article about otter numbers increasing in the UK. Reportedly they are moving into urban areas at a rate equivalent to the point when foxes started to move into London (the early 70s I think).

Magpies occasionally attack cats in our garden. I thought it was a freak occurrence but a bit of research online and on Youtube reveals it to be relatively common.

Anyway - this is veering way off topic and I'm largely to blame! I must stop!
