Hadn't checked there in awhile, thanks for the tip. I'm not particularly up on the MAME scene, though, so I've honestly never even heard of ThunderMAME before now, heh.

Great composer!
My favorite from him is definitely Mushihimesama - a masterpiece in shmup music.

I'm sorry but I'm not a real big fan of Manabu Namiki.

He completely screwed up Metal Slug 6's soundtrack, and although some of his other works are okay, it still doesn't make up for it...

Anyway, I like Go Sato, Takushi Hiyamuta, Shinji Hosoe, Tokashizu Tanaka, Zuntata, and whoever the heck did Thunder Cross II's soundtrack. Oh and OutZone had some good tunes but I haven't ever heard Dogyuun in action so I'm not perfectly sure.

Also the original DDP had some nice tracks, even if there were like, three of them.

This post annoyed me so much that I downloaded the entire Metal Slug Complete Sound Box just to find out what it sounds like. Not surprisingly, the Metal Slug 6 soundtrack that Namiki worked on was definitely not "screwed up", whatever that means. It was one of the better ones on there. The only other one that came close was Metal Slug 3D. What exactly do you think he did wrong?

Edit: Just so this isn't just arguing, here's some awesome music

Whoa, I'm quite shocked myself to finally learn who was behind Metal Slug 6's soundtrack. It is indeed fairly dull, and the only track that really stands out is that catchy stage 3 theme. I would have expected a lot more from him and I had no idea he was the one who did it. They really should have stuck with Toshikazu Tanaka for 6 as his heavy metal score for 5 was absolutely fantastic. He went a different route for 7, but it was still excellent too.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Do tell me you're kidding. I admit Metal Slug 6 had some good songs (Inner Goldfield, Main Theme, and Steel Beast 6+7 Beets), but the Final Attack remix is just horrid and most of the non-remixed music (Maybe save for Asian Impact, but that wasn't particularly great either) is just "ugh" or "not Metal Slug".

Especially when you compare this to the previous Metal Slug 5, which just had completely awesome metal all around, it's jarring to say the least. Dolphin Blue's soundtrack might have actually gone with Metal Slug 6 better, for all I know. It was made by ex-Metal Slug 3 developers after all.

It seems like the work Namiki did on MS6 was all over the place with no real theme. It showcases perhaps was to come, at least in the case of his next work on Mushihimesama Futari, Stage 3 in MS6 is very evidenced of this. It's drastically different from MS5 given the metal theme throughout and I guess expecting more of that is a pipe dream. 5 by far is the most distinct MS soundtrack and is quite different even from Tanakas work in 4 just before. I don't know why anyone would expect 6 to be the same as a result, hell even 7 is a different spin despite similarities to 4.

As for 6, it's all over the place and perhaps not the best fit compared to work by Hiyamuta (pardon Mission 2) as far as associated given scenes and action. Listening to it on it's own, it's alright. Reminders of Silvergun, Metroid Prime, and Mario Kart 64 can be heard in addition to a whole jumble which I cannot put my finger on which for flying section of Mission 4. In the end, yeah, it's strange Namiki worked on it and only it but perhaps that says more than need be explained.

As for Tanakas work, 5 is probably the best/most appropriate he's done with 7 sounding a bit too over the top which feels out of place while 4 just doesn't stack-up to the earlier four scores.

Just wanted to post a quick thanks. Really grateful for all the responses. I'll have a lot of music to look into for plenty of time to come.

There were lots of differing opinions so I should have some different paths to choose...I didn't mean to get people arguing...I suppose it is going to be hard to prevent that with a topic as subjective as music as discussed by hardcore gamers. (I personally like just about all kinds of music, and even some stuff that is damn close to straight up noise) :P

It's pretty much the norm around here, don't worry, it's nothing to take seriously.
