This is an interesting topic.
Art is an insular thing, the act of processing one's own emotion. It's specific to each person.
And the whole point of a "game" is to allow the player to create their own art through play. The game is the vehicle for art.
But when a developer makes the game itself art, then there are some interesting conflicts. It's no wonder some players can feel denied or cheated by these un-games.
But I don't think they should just disappear. If an average guy chooses to pick up C++ instead of a paintbrush, then that's cool. It just gets a little more difficult to find games that are meant to be played.
